Hi, Big Brother, didja see what I just did ...
My bank in Spain will shortly have the technology to produce the details of a payment – not just that I bought at a supermarket, but the copy of the sales slip. Woah!Maybe not that efficiently, since they had the wrong retailer listed against the payment but the PDF option promised ‘soon’.
When my daughter visited recently she brought UK bank forms for me to change my address, and took them back with her. A week later when I tried to transfer funds to my euro card, which is operated through a completely different bank, it was declined because my address had changed. No problem, I could create a new account with correct address linked to the same card, but
When I logged in to do my UK tax return HMRC said “right, you earned this much from this employer, and this was the PAYE deducted. Then this much through the temp agency, and this was the PAYE deducted."
Not complaining, since the P60 from the temp agency has never caught up with me and I was intending to show it as untaxed income rather than faff around (not a big amount) but has anyone else noticed Big Brother is keeping much closer tabs than before?
So far it has been helpful but . . .

Just wanna wish you Happy New Year, Biff
Banks already knows almost everything about you. every detail. Now, they let you know more about .......... you. There is no denying it.
Morning
I just want to have more money than I spend and not hear or see anything about it. That shouldn't be too difficult, should it?
So that's a thumbs up from you, then!
I do know when I lost my passport and had to apply for a replacement I was fed up that they didn't have the unchanging details on record already and I had to look up things like my parents' birthdates and birthplaces all over again (wonder if that's changed in the last couple of years too?) so I don't think I really mind them knowing stuff, but nothing stays static, the technology will continue and then what? Making decisions for us?
Picture it - mobile phone lights up. 'Hey Biff, overdue for a checkup so I made your dentist appointment for Tuesday after class, and by the way you're booked to go on holiday to Pukkiesdirft for a week, which was the best you could afford. Enjoy."
And yet we've joked all this time and they still get more and more powerful ...
Well in 12 years time we will probably all have them anyway ...
I need a more alarmed emoji than just
Forget walls. Microchip the whole world, set up a signal to notify The Custodians when anyone's heartbeat accelerates so they can check whether X is where he / she should be and if there's a problem ...
No. No no no no no no no no no.
But all the old fogies saying no WAY and "holding up progress" the way old fogies do, will be gone soon enough - or microchipped for their 'health and safety'. I think George Orwell was 100 years out. By 2084 all done and dusted?
didn't take your money and ran
I suppose
Just a matter of time before someone "suddenly" has the idea of microchipping all current citizens to protect their rights ... and by then the fear will have done its work. All would rush to be microchipped since anyone who isn't would be deported. So that explains that, sheesh I had been wondering and wondering!
I had to have my dog and cat done to bring them here. Didn't think twice about it.
So maybe wur not doomed yet.
Phew.
I have found that people who do tend to live on their nerves and can get more and more paranoid about life.
I have no intention of living my life like that.
Worrying about things outside of our control is pretty pointless.
you are - I don't know whether to hug you or stick my tongue out at you
Both
Bet that won't have changed. But I am on all new stuff here and hopefully can speak enough Spanish to argue my case fluently by renewal time
Information about us is shared between various countries' revenue services as well. There's no escape!
Oh dear, sounds like she didn't have the best Spanish day?
Next stop is in a mountain town about 8 kms away and she's of course dressed to the nines for first day Sorry, he says. Catch the bus back.
Next bus heading back is in 2 hours time
She rang a taxi - no dice, they don't 'do' that mountain town, not worth it
that was the start of her Spanish Day I've had 'em too. They are bliksems.
