Hi, Big Brother, didja see what I just did ...

My bank in Spain will shortly have the technology to produce the details of a payment – not just that I bought at a supermarket, but the copy of the sales slip. Woah!

Maybe not that efficiently, since they had the wrong retailer listed against the payment rolling on the floor laughing but the PDF option promised ‘soon’.

When my daughter visited recently she brought UK bank forms for me to change my address, and took them back with her. A week later when I tried to transfer funds to my euro card, which is operated through a completely different bank, it was declined because my address had changed. No problem, I could create a new account with correct address linked to the same card, but uh oh

When I logged in to do my UK tax return HMRC said “right, you earned this much from this employer, and this was the PAYE deducted. Then this much through the temp agency, and this was the PAYE deducted."

Not complaining, since the P60 from the temp agency has never caught up with me and I was intending to show it as untaxed income rather than faff around (not a big amount) but has anyone else noticed Big Brother is keeping much closer tabs than before?

So far it has been helpful but . . . uh oh

MiMi has just a bit of clue what you’re talking about help

Just wanna wish you Happy New Year, Biff hug bouquet
oh I see, you are socializing with the Illuminati . laugh

Banks already knows almost everything about you. every detail. Now, they let you know more about .......... you. There is no denying it.

Morning wave
Eugh, I hate everything to do with paperwork, banks, money, budgeting, statements, you name it

I just want to have more money than I spend and not hear or see anything about it. That shouldn't be too difficult, should it?
According to the Bard, Biff, first thing we do is to kill all the lawyers. Second one is all the bankers. Any overlap, just saves time.
Molly, give them another year or two and the only time you'll ever know that money is moving around quietly behind the scenes to facilitate your life is when the AI texts you to earn more of it. Every bill paid, every need met, and Big Brother calmly in charge. Sorted.

So that's a thumbs up from you, then!

thumbs up
Hey Z, no, that's exactly it, they do have more and more control and generally nobody notices or only finds out when it is fairly handy stuff. It's if we wanted to keep some stuff hidden that there's a problem uh oh

I do know when I lost my passport and had to apply for a replacement I was fed up that they didn't have the unchanging details on record already and I had to look up things like my parents' birthdates and birthplaces all over again (wonder if that's changed in the last couple of years too?) so I don't think I really mind them knowing stuff, but nothing stays static, the technology will continue and then what? Making decisions for us?

Picture it - mobile phone lights up. 'Hey Biff, overdue for a checkup so I made your dentist appointment for Tuesday after class, and by the way you're booked to go on holiday to Pukkiesdirft for a week, which was the best you could afford. Enjoy." uh oh
Vier, just proves some things don't change much over the centuries rolling on the floor laughing

And yet we've joked all this time and they still get more and more powerful ...
next step the micro chip.
String I've heard rumbles about the micro chip that is just too SF for comfort. uh oh
As with some legislation, Scotland is being used as the guinea-pig - Scottish babies to be fit with microchips so they can be monitored from birth to 12.

Well in 12 years time we will probably all have them anyway ...

I need a more alarmed emoji than just uh oh

it's happening in Sweden, India, China.
I'm guessing as self-employed I will escape longer than most and will be long since dead by the time it is universal but holy Hannah. This IS Big Brother and we are saying sure, go straight ahead ...

Forget walls. Microchip the whole world, set up a signal to notify The Custodians when anyone's heartbeat accelerates so they can check whether X is where he / she should be and if there's a problem ...

No. No no no no no no no no no.

But all the old fogies saying no WAY and "holding up progress" the way old fogies do, will be gone soon enough - or microchipped for their 'health and safety'. I think George Orwell was 100 years out. By 2084 all done and dusted?
well, at least your bank

didn't take your money and ran
Eek Methuzelah has that happened to you???
I don't think it is far away like 2020 they will make it sound good but it is not, are people so eager to give their freedom up sad time we are in.
no, not yet, one day

I suppose
But String take something like the fear being generated in the US about immigrants invading. (Same as Europe, I'm not pointing fingers)

Just a matter of time before someone "suddenly" has the idea of microchipping all current citizens to protect their rights ... and by then the fear will have done its work. All would rush to be microchipped since anyone who isn't would be deported. So that explains that, sheesh I had been wondering and wondering!

I had to have my dog and cat done to bring them here. Didn't think twice about it.
the states do need to build the wall. they are not against people coming in they want them to come in legally.
What does make me feel better is that no-one aside from TR has actually noticed any actual Big Brother stuff on a specific basis. Lots of theory and alarming potential but no actual examples from anyone that they are being monitored. Obviously the stuff I spotted is the only examples out there.

So maybe wur not doomed yet.

Phew.
I just don't think about BB or anything like that.
I have found that people who do tend to live on their nerves and can get more and more paranoid about life.
I have no intention of living my life like that.
Worrying about things outside of our control is pretty pointless.
Mimi rolling on the floor laughing

you are - I don't know whether to hug you or stick my tongue out at you

hug tongue

Both laugh
Dealing in cash is the only way I can think of to keep big brothers nose out of your business. However it is very hard to deal in cash.
Hello Biff wave As for banks, I pay most of my bills over the phone, which is nice and convienient, but it seems every time I blink there s a new fee, or chargedoh so when I m in the bank, I question the new fees, and charges, and as I m doing it I m looking at the bank across the street from my bank. I then ask if the bank across the street has these new charges, rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing I usually get told you re a long time customer here, we ll wave those new fees.yay
laugh 1to1, my pet peeve was insurance renewals, every year I had to phone and ask "why when I haven't made a claim are you charging me more than I would get if I switched and went elsewhere?" And every year they'd say "'let's see what I can do" and it would magically go down by a hundred quid or thereabouts. Every year I asked why I had to jump through the hoops like this, couldn't they just put a note on the account that I ALWAYS check and I ALWAYS shop around, and save us both the time? mumbling

Bet that won't have changed. But I am on all new stuff here and hopefully can speak enough Spanish to argue my case fluently by renewal time laugh
TSB?? I have accounts at TSB?? What happened to TSB?? I wasn't able to log in at month end when I was reconciling my accounts, thought nothing of it and frankly since all I have is an emptied ISA with about £100 and a savings account I wasn't that worried help
The online banking of TSB overloaded and crashed for almost a week when they tried introducing a new format, this action blocked all account access.
Most definitely! My banker actually called for a "chat". What she was looking for, was to find out about my lifestyle so they can track my payments. Anything out of the usual, red flags are raised.
Information about us is shared between various countries' revenue services as well. There's no escape!
Gor bless Big Brother and sterling work on the blogs, Toots! cheering I had to stop briefly, my temporary tenant got home after having a Very Spanish Day. She needed to vent. A LOT .

laugh
Likewise Biff...great teamwork!

Oh dear, sounds like she didn't have the best Spanish day? wave
Skattie, her first day at her new job, the bus sweeps past her stop (which she didn't know was her stop as it is her first day, but she had told him as she boarded where she needed to get off)

Next stop is in a mountain town about 8 kms away and she's of course dressed to the nines for first day Sorry, he says. Catch the bus back.

Next bus heading back is in 2 hours time

She rang a taxi - no dice, they don't 'do' that mountain town, not worth it

that was the start of her Spanish Day rolling on the floor laughing I've had 'em too. They are bliksems.
