I've been voting since 1976

I've been voting in Presidential elections since 1976. I've voted for the Democratic candidate twice in all that time. Once, because Gerald Ford needed to go to get rid of the stench from the Nixon years. The second time was this past Tuesday for much the same reason. Do I love Joe Biden? No. Did I love Jimmy Carter back then? No. But it had to happen.

End of story./

And what a great year it was....what eYe remember best...as the Army moved me from Ft.Riley KS
To Baumholder Germany....
Is that I do not recall a conversation in the barracks or at the Bar...in which party politics came up, names of politicos invoked, or anything of that kind..

It was basically, BABES, BIKE$, BOSE SOUND, BEER & BOSTON [ not the Sox.
... punctuated by bong hits....
I sent a ballot in..Many of us sent ballots in from all over the world..Our votes were counted giggle
I remember 1976. It was the only time in my entire life I had a tan, probably because my freckles merged.

I think Merc would deem you a real Republican, which she views as different from a Trump supporter.

I've always been a registered Independent.

I've mostly voted Independent candidates through the years. Merc knows I voted for the Libertarian candidate, Gary Johnson, in the last election. The Libertarian candidate, this time around, was Jo Jorgenson. She was an anti-masker. NEXT!

A man like Donald Trump will never get my vote. Biden was the only viable option.

Btw, Jimmy Carter did not turn out to be a very good President, but he was the best human being to hold the office in my lifetime.
Bummer you beat me to the pun geezer.. I know I'm going to look like I'm making this up but I swear on my family I did look at Geezer as being an Independent because of Geezers view on politics at a site I shared with him for a decade.
you voted for principles; values.

Unfortunately; most of electors in US vote for the club they support, without giving it any consideration.

These people do not vote for policies, or for a a fiscal, economic or social programs. They voted for the club.

btw; those political programs are a just bunch of mounting ambiguities. all

cheers
2016 the Independents didn't like Hillary nor Trump but they disliked hillary more..This time around Independents turned to Biden.
To be fair Bogart, perhaps a lot of people voted to get rid of Trump.

It's a dilemma I have often found myself in: vote in terms of what I believe in, or vote to get rid of what I believe is most reprehensible.

There is an integrity in both, but one is more uncomfortable than the other.
I remember reading, a few months back, in these blogs "Just you wait! The silent majority will be heard come election time!" I thought to myself, silent majority? These people never shut up.

Newsflash I was wrong. People like me were the silent majority and clearly we were heard. grin
You did what was right.

This country could not afford another 4 years of that dictator.

cheers
Merc

I liked watching the Apprentice too...but reality tv stars do not make good political figures...their ego gets in the way as well as their lack of knowledge...wine
Yeah, I remember you trying to prod me into voting for him. I think my words were something along the lines of, I will never vote for Trump even if he ran for dog catcher.

Ahhh, but you worked it out eventually. teddybear
lou I just thought he could do much for the economy..Little did I know Obama was handed a terrible economy and handed Trump a healthy economy
Yep I doing my very own homework paid off teddybear
When Obama was running for President I had my profile pic set as Michelle Obama..No regrets about that laugh

When it comes to American politics I would be classified as an Independent
Merc

Hey...the orange man is gone now...laugh

Wonder if he is going to start a reality tv show now...dunno
laugh

Lou it's true he's coming back to try again with he's family..That's the bloody reality show laugh
I think he should make a record with Kanye. grin
@cranky I hold a similar view of Carter - viewed as a failure, but surely the most intelligent man in the office.
^^^^ And a good man, a decent human being. Did you know he was helping build Habitat for Humanity houses into his 90's?
Whoops, on re-reading I'm not sure WHAT your view on Carter is! laugh
My view is that he wasn't a President for that moment in time. Maybe another time in our history not that one.

There are things I disliked and liked about Reagan, but he clearly was a more forceful and charismatic person. He was needed at the time. I could have done without him tripling the national debt, though.
And tripling the trade deficit... laugh
Ah! reassured.
But now is the age of Modern Monetary Theory - governments in the face of covid-19 have discovered they DON'T have to balance the budget, but can give money to the people!
