I don't like the set back. I listen and I't should be received as understanding.
@jac no it is an avoidance - but yes there has been progress - ummmm a little. it's quite another topic.
Jac imagine us all on here in relationships with these men..I can tell you right now it would be a whole different scenario laugh
@jac I remember my #2 ex-wife sitting forward to see if I cried at the end of a movie (what movie, cannot remember!) she was looking forward to me crying, clearly. But on the other hand, at the end of '1984' she told me she would never watch another movie with me. Now what do you say about that?
How do expect me to know anything about the thoughts and feelings of your #2 ex-wife. Fargo?

Did you ask her?

Was she able to fully and conclusively express herself?
I fell into your concerns about your Grandaughter and that sounds fresh. I would deal with it with real quick and strait forward. I think you have a wise head on your shoulders, and have suspicion, I don't need the details .
Teaching her practical skills is commendable, but we habitually work with practical solutions and supress emotions.

It appears, however, that the planet is neither practically, nor emotionally healthy and maybe that's because the two are inextricably linked.

Thoughts, feelings and behaviours are what it is to be human. When we fail to balance them, we fail in our humanity.

We get behaviours like Derek Chauvin's.
@ac she knew perfectly well how to laugh at me crying at an engineered movie ending
Isn't it rare for charges to be dismissed on appeal?

Isn't it most likely that a successful appeal will mean the case is remanded?

A successful appeal doesn't mean Chauvin will walk free, but he may be retried.

I don't see how there would be grounds for dismissal if an appeal is based upon possible jury intimidation, rather than new evidence which impacts upon the validity of the evidence presented at trial.

It appears the defense was pretty inadequate which may have something to do with Chauvin's actions being indefensible, but at least a retrial would offer the opportunity for a more skilled challenge to the prosecuton.

What you don't want is successful appeals at a later date on the grounds that Chauvin was inadequately represented.

Maybe an opportunity was created for a retrial for reasons other than the obvious. dunno
Raph did raise a good point about open-air carbon monoxide exposure, on the other forum blog. I did find that interesting as I did see a pic with him laying at the rear of the police vehicle with his head right in feet of the exhaust. Also the young woman that filmed this incident was on the drivers side, which would be opposite of the exhaust side. Still it was a death on the hands of sloppy police work.
@jac laughing at me crying at the end of a movie is quite natural, I knew I was being manipulated too! No objection, but she used to anticipate the reaction.
It's like trying to get blood out of a stone, Fargo. laugh

What do you think her motives were and what do you think she got out of seeing you cry at sad movie endings?
Fargo, when we are on the topic film, is your username meant to say you like the film Fargo from 1996?
I love that movie. William H. Macy and Steve Buscemi are unforgettable in it.
I was born in Fargo, North Dakota.

People use the phrase, "Minnesota Nice" like the folks there are exceptionally pleasant.
Frances McDormand (Actress who played Margie) coined the term during the making of "Fargo" and she meant it as a sarcasm.

Contrary to what's claimed at the beginning of the movie, it's Not Based on actual events - It's pure fiction.

The reason for which Lundegaard embezzled money are Never mentioned in the Movie.
Before it became known that the story was total fabrication, it was taken for granted among Minnesotans that he'd lost money at the then recently opened Treasure Island Indian Casino near Red Wing, MN.
A few similar stories had been in the news.

I heard folks from Minnesota complain that the movie made fun of the way they talked -
And the folks sounded like they were extras in the movie. ... laugh

daydream I know a guy - 1/2 Palestinian & 1/2 Minnesotan ... Yasser YouBetcha.

I was More apt to cry @ movies than was Wife crying ... I blamed dust in the air.

Obviously Frustrated Judge frustrated Acknowledged Mad Maxie had given Chauvin's Defense grounds to ask for a mistrial based on Jury Intimidation -
She'd Unequivocally issued an Ultimatum that BLM would become "More Confrontational" IF the jury did Not return a verdict of "Guilty! Guilty! Guilty!" on All Three Counts.
Her INCITEMENT (& the judge's refusal to sequester the jury) reduced the Entire Trial to an Utter WASTE of Time & Resources.

very mad

cowboy
So much for the said rule of law and the judiciary Branch. Never once heard nothing about any voter intemadation or manipulation in this or that case. Referring as to video above. I see that the jury was tainted with outside events...
@Miclee.
Ja, jaaa. Yes in Norwegian and Swedish is exactly this "ja" lol

They don't have to complain at all, it contributed to make the movie famous but in a more positive way than they might think. It's more in the direction of Minnesota-nice I would say. hug

I never wondered much of why he needed the money, mr. Lundegaard (also a scandinavian name).
I saw it more as his way of trying to "get his share".
You could say that backfired pretty badly. lol

Sorry Jac for the temp.thread steal.

Police custody existing federal statutes and case law that aim to protect the civil rights of all Americans in police custody, no matter what crime police think they committed, no doubt this was a crime...
@Mic, and it's a joy to see! Candace Owens for pres.2024.

Jericho Green here telling a story of how America is one still.
This is worth a watch! 18mins.

Love Jericho Green...

He has a potty mouth...

But, he does see it the way it is..

Why I say, this case was not racial..but, police brutality...
Not Revenge just Accountability.

Good interesting blog.
Looks to me as if Chauvin's actions have been explored at every possible angle.
Personally speaking, its really not easy being a street cop these days. Thats why more and more cops are leaving the force to join private security companies and I wish him good luck. It will get worse before it gets better, with many many cops just looking the other way when crimes are committed, and not doing the right thing.
Jmo.
The police system has been looking the other way with respect to it's own transgressions for a long time.

Establishing police accountability is necessary to all failures of the system, including all aspects of racial bias.

Unless we address conscious and unconscous bias, we cannot affect change.

I don't know how you come to the conclusion that 'not looking the other way' will lead to 'looking the other way'.

It's 'looking the other way' which leads to more 'looking the other way' because it establishes a culture where 'looking the other way' is acceptable.
The systematics of judgement is nothing more than a displaced of racketeering events. With corruption in the grasp of law. The towering demise of control with particulars as we define logic.
And it's actually through the internet that watch yourself like a hawk turned from a negative into a positive. It used to mean that you'd rip the soul out of real life.
Maybe someday someone will build a pc, and software with every court case with every action in every case that played out in the system. When you get charged with a crime, walk in with you ticket and let the machine choose your fait. laugh
And I guess that is the optimism of the internet. Standards of living online are rising everyday I could see it watching itself like a hawk in a culture of prohibition whilst the real world goes back to something more like the Wild WestWes
Just a Thought, y'all -
If Cops Can't be held Criminally accountable ...
dunno

cowboy
That similar to the whole class getting detention with the hope that the class turn on the culprit in private.

It's not a mature, nor a just way of dealing with accountability.

It just propagates and condones secretive brutality which is the very thing that is the problem in the first place.
What happened the Derek Chauvin thread on the forums?
Even if Chauvin is sentenced to 30 or whatever years now, he will be out in under 10.
I don't know, DeeDee

The last I saw of it was me commenting in response to bigjb saying you had a quite miniscule intelligence in you brain and that like many you thought you knew something.

I asked him if that was his defense idea in the event of a retrial.

I'm almost sure it would have got Chauvin off, y'know, women being too stupid to look at that footage and realise that George Floyd killed himself.
It will be hell, no perp calling for dead man chant, If only He was wise. The Judge will make most likely a play for a spetical side show. In eight weeks that's were we are in this case.
I dare say he'll have to be kept in solitary confinement for that 10 years, Luke.

That's still quite a sentence and a ruined life to boot.
Granted -
It mayn't be the Best way to motivate change in the System, but 'most anything Else to date seems to be working as well as silk stockings on a rooster. ... blues

Maybe that's because education and legislation takes time and immature approaches don't work.

That's not an argument for more immature approaches.
If it ends Killings - May be worth a Try ... dunno

Back to Reality.
It's a Moot point - It could NEVER Happen on account of Cop Unions.
Much the same reason Good cops (whistleblowers) get fired & Bad ones do Not. sigh

cowboy
Chauvin's a POS & Deserves More'n he's likely to Get.

But that's No reason to Not keep things in Perspective ...
