Government to introduce new digital Covid-19 certificate for South Africa

The government has commenced with the development of a digital Covid-19 vaccination certificate which will confirm that a person has been vaccinated in South Africa, says health minister Dr Joe Phaahla.
“This initiative is in line with the World Health Organisation initiated vaccination certificate. Through this, the WHO attempting to standardise vaccination proof all over the world,” he said.
The certificate would likely be used for certain services in the future, but the government has no intention to make the certificate a requirement for accessing public services.

They need to do something. The paper certificates don't last long in a wallet and they aren't linked to a central data bank. Here in the US many (including police officers and medical personel) are being jailed for selling Form MLS-319813_r (the standardized Covid vaccination certificate form issued by the CDC) with fake information and forged signatures. These fakes are very popular with the anti-vaccine crowd and many have been caught and arrested using them to try and get on planes or use in those circumstances where proof of vaccination is required. There are several methods of spotting fakes. My favorte case is the husband and wife flying into Hawaii who had the name of the vaccine spelt wrong. :)

Also this week 3 State Troopers in Vermont face prosecution for attempting to sell vials of colored water as fake vaccine to illegal immigrants scared to walk into a clinic where they would have to provide an identification. Investigation to see how many vials of fake vaccine they already sold to those in need is underway.
