Sciatica...

Okay, reaching over for a watermelon at the back of the bin wasn't such a good idea...
Stretching only aggravates the condition.

Sciatica can be dreadful! 30 odd years ago. Rising from bed, getting up from a chair, brushing the teeth. I solved it with physio and 30 or so half-body pushups from the waist every waking hour for a few weeks. There were times I felt like I was walking on a broken leg. Sometimes the arm muscles were just as sore.
I suffer with sciatica on my left side..Of course it hurts when you stretch but you can't stretch & say tht hurts I'm not doing that anymore..Stretch for half an hour & if you know how to stretch properly for Sciatica you can't go wrong..I use my Pilates ring as well..There are a zillion different stretches..stretch for 3 minutes with each different stretch & if you have the time repeat those stretches..Stretch every day & night if you can
The injury started last week and yesterday was the most painful.
Sitting on a knife in my back pocket is the description I can come up with.
What surprises me is the amount of walking and climbing of stairs in my normal routine to have this amount of pain.
I'm going to wait a few more days before starting on stretching exercises.
try a physio - they can tailor the exercise to suit your flavour of problem. Mine helped me find a prone position that was not too excruciating.
It's not my first sciatic nerve attack, probably 7 or 8 years since the last time. However, this one appears to be the worst.
I'm alternating ice and heat and getting therapy from a retired nurse who studied massage and acupuncture.
Ouch!!! More expert advice for you! laugh As someone who has had her fair share of injuries, I believe that physiotherapy combined with acupuncture would be the most beneficial. A physio will also advise you about stretches once you're healed. I hope you feel better soon. Pain is debilitating.
I've had a pinched sciatic nerve on the 5th vertebrae since I was in my mid 40's. Chiropractors could only give me relief for a month or so. Since then I either had to put up with the pain or be able to sit for a minute or 2. When I lost my leg 3 years ago the pain went away. Not suggesting that you lose a leg, but maybe a Hoveround or something like that may help.
My sciatica spread all the way down to my foot, left foot. They told me the further down it goes, the worse it is. Just hope it stays in the butt'ock as Forest Gump might have said.
Seems to me you have a pinched nerve which isn't anything to do with sciatica.
A pinched nerve doesn't give the same burning pain down my leg the way the sciatic nerve does.
I know what your putting up with because my sciatic runs from my piriformis all the way down to my ankle it's very painful..You need to stretch now
Go to your doctor and ask for Lyrica. I've had sciatica from falling for years and Lyrica is what helped then when I got the vaccine last year it fired my sciatic nerve up again and I asked the doctor for something else..a muscle relaxant or something like that and he refused and he just kept raising the dosage of Lyrica over period of 3 weeks and it just went away so then he lowered my Lyrica back down and it never came back. One other thing that might help is stand straight and bend your knees just a little then look up at the ceiling bending your back and hold it for a count of 10 and keep increasing it each day.
Hold onto something for balance.
I hope you're feeling better today, Chat!
find a back clinic or chiropractor who has a spinal decompression (traction) machine.
They have been very beneficial for my back problems.
good luck
My chiropractor was a godsend when I was injured. I still have regular appointments just to keep me upright and straightened out. laugh
I made it through the afternoon without ice or pain reliever. My friends met at the model aviation field and I got a some movement.

Hopefully, I can resume my walking routine this weekend.
Like I said I had pain from a fall a long time ago and my son n law always teased me about the fall, and how could that fall cause that much pain. Well Karma has a way of taking care of situations. He owns a contracting company and he was putting in a tile floor and guess what happened .. it hit him. He said I've never felt pain like that...lol
He also was working on a chiropractor's house so he gave him a few free adjustments and he's been fine ever since.
Did you hear about an employer who treated his staff to a Chiropractor?

One of his employee's had her neck broken never to walk again.

I will never attend a Chiropractor cause that would be my bloody luck
I would never attend a chiropractor who uses manipulation which is what the chiro you mentioned used. My chiro uses "active release" which is very effective and safe. It's all about people informing themselves beforehand. banana
Yours sounds way better cheers
I think that you have chat co fused with the other fella, merc
Confused with the other fella, that is
Chat mentioned he lost a leg in one of his posts
Welcome to the CS retirement home, hey? Well, hell, at least we all know each other laugh

But anyway chat, try to take it easy, it might settle down for you, they say it does, or so I believe. A short term option is cortisone injections
Not all Chiropractors are equal. I'm sure some are too aggressive and can injure rather than heal.
Update:
I did some walking today, no aspirin, no ice, no pain... except when I reach around to wipe my butt!

laugh
Oh, for a bidet. help
Unless it's an air dry model, there is always paperwork to be done. laugh

One of my clients installed a computerized model that lights up when it senses someone approaching!
wow laugh
Thanks...
I did. 2 trips and he's outlined a plan of 24 visits that uses the spinal decompression.
The treatment is out of network so I cannot get my insurance to pay any part of it.
His overall cost per visit was good and I'm weighing the benefits.
I've had enough ice and switched to heat therapy and getting good results.
