A funny thing happened on the way...
...to the basement today.I fell down the stairs. It happened today.
I was totally shocked ..that it happened.
In my entire life I have never fallen down any stairs,
even icy ones. Perhaps I was due.
I have big wide feet and very muscular
and strong legs. Because of this, I've always had truly tremendous balance.
When I was in grammar school I used to deliver ~ 125 newspapers
with my bike with baskets and that was also when I also got initially into lifting weights. Both things really built up my calves and thighs, as has a lot of hiking, baseball, tennis & softball since.
In addition in winter I used to practice my balance by running and making cuts (change in direction) on ice. I'd find frozen icy parking lots and run with sneakers on, slipping & sliding, but not losing balance nor falling down. Indeed, when I played football (a long time ago), it generally took 4 or 5 bigger guys to bring me down, when I ran the ball. Often the whistle blew, after progress had stopped, while I was still standing up with the ball and several guys were draped on the ground hanging onto my legs & waist. One guy could never knock me down, no matter how big he was.
So, to fall down the steps AT HOME without being hit by someone, was definitely surprising to me. In retrospect the sneakers I was wearing were somewhat new and the painted wooden steps are a bit slick. However, it really took me by surprise. My feet slipped out in front of me and BOOM, my butt hit the stairs repeatedly (BOOM, boom, boom, boom, boom) on the way down.
I reached out to grab something...anything.. to help impede my bumpy descend to the bottom of the stairs. However, there was nothing to grab. Somehow my left triceps area got a nice bruise and perhaps, that was even the worst of it. I guess it impacted the stairs during my desperate reach for something to grab onto on the way down.
Luckily, my head was not impacted at all. Lets face it, I don't have a lot of brain cells to spare. Also, since I live alone, while I was resting at the bottom of the stairs, a vision of me lying bloody & dead for 2 months at the bottom of the basement stairs crept into my imagination. Hmmmm. I think I'm going to glue down some anti-skid material onto those stairs.
Well, I hope you've had a better day than me.

I did the same thing you did....feet flew out from under me, and I hit each stair on the way down! Somehow, I miraculously spared the coffee in my hand, didn't spill a drip!
Otherwise, I may be on a roll.
Sorry to hear about both your falls ladies.
Remember, however, that success is getting up just one more time
than you fall down.
Then a few years ago I tripped on a water sprinkler in the ground and fell on the concrete, right on my bad knee, well, both knees and elbows. It took the breath out of me.
Then a few years ago, I slipped on water in a Kroger store and fell on my knee. That was humiliating!
Be careful out there. Concrete can bite !
Dre, I'm glad you could focus on what's important.
Be careful out there. Concrete can bite !"
That's what I thought. Texas has changed its laws. I was told I should have seen the water. I
