It's right around the corner.

It may be early for some of us, but many other folks (including those where I live) have already begun preparing for Christmas. Yes, there’s Thanksgiving in the US, and Divali/Dewali in my homeland, India and other parts of the world that are way before Christmas, but the preparations for those seem to take second place.

In my country, October usually marks the start of preparations with shopping for curtains/drapes and other decorative household items, repairing or replacing old furniture and appliances, soaking fruits in wine and rum to make fruitcakes, cooking and baking of seasonal foods (and snacks), and the list goes on. When I was a child, Christmastime at my grandparents was a very fun-filled, family-filled and food-filled time (my grandmother was a great cook, and also a great baker).

There’s so much to like, and to do during this season that is really good. But I also know that there’s a bit of it that’s not-so-good. The year is quickly ending and Christmas is right around the corner. Whether you are a ‘Bible believer’ or not, almost everyone is affected by Christmas either directly, or indirectly. There aren't many other holiday seasons that have the kind of impact that it does; I know of many non-Christians that really enjoy what this season has to offer.christmas happy

Hi Didi,

my new neighbor started hanging Christmas decors and lights outside her door and windows months ago so I know they are Filipinoslaugh

My friend started lighting her christmas tree earlier today.

My halloween balloons and decors are still up and Thanksgiving is just around the corner, after that I will start hanging some Christmas decors too.
Hi Didi wave

There are quite a few objects I'd like to hang but I can assure you they are not Christmas decorations just yet.grin
"Months ago"? wow Boy, are they ready! Some people just can't wait. laugh
Reeeaally? hmmm grin
As most, the holiday has pagan roots. Blessings of harvest and hope for the suns return in spring. Even tho not Christian, have always kept Christmas eve. Mom, dad and I went out to our trees and cut a pine. Dad put it up and mom decorated it. It was the whole ritual. Empty the coat closet so dad could fit the ladder and himself up into the attic trap door to get the box down. Argue over which tree. Mom always won and it was always bigger than she thought.frustrated Dad whittling the base to fit. The tree went up in the start of December. Dad was German so it was tradition to have a tree. Presents went under to sit tempting til the eve. Christmas day was just another day. Tree stayed up til dad got fed up with the fire hazzard and needles and would start to take toys off. Mom would yelp...I"LL DO IT before you break them.
I was into decorating when first married. Finally bought a fake tree. Did the whole deal for years and years. Last decade...little pre-decorated tree. Sits in the library all year except Dec it comes in the living room. Get my guy something and my boarder. Or not. Now holidays just are work no one sees so who cares.yawn

laugh Not for everyone is it work though. I think that all the traditional activities - cooking and baking, cleaning and polishing, decorating and gift wrapping, etc - makes it so. I just try to enjoy all that's good and available.grin banana
Is this a blog about christmas?
I think christmas can be sweet, and I think it can be a celebration about the essence of christianity.
As well as cosy and sweet including some moderate amounts of gifts.

I think so too, Ozzie.thumbs up
Christmas time here is always a super hot time of the year, so its a matter of getting into the summer grove of getting up early and doing all the outdoors jobs before its to hot to be outside..
Late afternoon and evening is a outdoors work time too..
Ok, but is it only about work, for you? If not, how do you 'enjoy' the season?
