Itchy...

A few months ago my cardiologist recommended I increase my diuretic to resolve leg swelling when I sit at a computer many hours a day. If that doesn't work, I should wear compression stockings. Medium compression of 20-30mmHg was the recommendation.
So, I bought a pair from a store that sells medical supplies. They were fitted to my foot and leg dimensions. I found them uncomfortable and would make my legs itchy if I had them on for more than an hour or two.
So, I ordered some from Amazon that were a size larger and kept them on for at least 6 hours. When I removed them, my legs and ankles were uncontrollably itchy, worse than the previous pair.
I researched reasons for itchy ankles and one symptom was diabetes. Ruling that out as my weekly sugar levels are in the normal range and I'm doing brisk walking 4 to 5 times a week.
I put some Benadril anti-itch medicine on the affected areas but it only worked for an hour or two and an itchy episode came back, it was like flipping a light switch!

How do you cure an itch?

You scratch it... I did and broke the skin. This started a viscous cycle.

Trying to make this go away, I'm using different medicines and alternating between antibiotic, hydrocortisone, and Benadril. My leg swelled so much I went to the doctor. He had me go for an ultrasound to be sure it didn't create a blood clot. Simple test... no clot.
The medical technician thinks I've got an allergy to the material the stockings are made from.

I'm headed to some outside appointments so no 'compression' for now... when I return, I've got a day of drawings to make and I'll consider some support hose. 10-15mmHg and some dry skin cream first.

Might also want to get sum of that hempvana cream.
Sounds like atopic eczema to me. Keep your legs moisturised and it will help.
Maybe have your kidneys checked out...

My mother had this problem when her kidneys were failing....

I piddle like body fluids are going out of fashion if I drink nettle tea, or use nettles in cooking.

I usually mix nettles with plantain, dandelion and/or sticky bud leaves in the spring, or mint in the summer.

What are the stockings made out of? And is it the material per se, the heat, or the pinching texture?
I'll ask my doctor if there is a test for this.
My brother was on dialysis 3 times a week for kidney problems.
He was diabetic on insulin shots and 50 pounds overweight.

I was telling my daughter about swelling in my left leg and she said I should have my prostate checked. I asked why?
She said "Doesn't prostate have to do with swelling in the legs?"
My response was "Only the middle leg!!"

laugh
And here I was think you're trying to communicate with itchy witch...laugh

I'm Italian and I hate oregano... I'll try the oil.
I've got cayenne, rarely use it.
Raw honey, It's in the house but I rarely have more than a teaspoon full in a month.
Chat I didn’t know you were Italiano. Do you speak the language? Will you leave your wife for me? We get along great anyway right?

I kid. But that’s extremely cool. cool

That mambo italiano song just popped in my head. Oh no I wanna dance!

Moving to Florida (from New York) washed the Giuseppe culture out of my family and we were regarded as Italians in diet only!
I’m not ready to reply to the Titanic blog yet because I haven’t watched all the videos so I’ll try to answer your question about the itch and I can only speak from my experience. Whenever I itch it’s either allergies or dry skin. Do you wear lotion? Drink water? Did your doctor say to elevate your legs for the swelling?

Hope this helps.
Titanic?
I'm ready when you are...
Followup to the ultrasound... no clot.

I've still got swelling.
Legs elevated at night.
Increased water pills.
More walking.
Soaked the leg with salt water, wrapped with really hot water for an hour.

The doctor was out, but I got to see the Nurse Practitioner.
She believes it's an allergy to the material in the stockings.

2 prescriptions being filled today.
Referral for a dermatologist.
Appointment made.

Someone mentioned kidney having kidneys checked out... blood work from last month shows kidneys and prostate normal.

thumbs up
Your swelling is b/c of sitting for long periods of time. If you walk or lift your legs you could feel better in between. Just a note.
Yes, thanks.
I had 3 cat naps last night as I was finishing a design drawing and sent it to the client this morning. That's done, but I've got a whole day of work planned, probably into the night. Plans to go to Miami on Saturday so I need to accomplish as much as possible.

I'm expecting a few deliveries today, contemplating lunch and will go out for a walk in the front of the building so I don't miss the delivery truck!

Lots of breaks and propping my feet up when possible. I'll consider support hose and not compression stockings today.
I started on antibiotics last night and the puffiness subsided so there's already improvement.
All indications I've read here about the itchy condition tells me the OP hasn't been laid in a while or he has too much salt intake. Get back on a regular Mediterranean diet and you'll be fine. laugh
Are you speaking from experience?
