"Good things come to those...

...who wait." dunno ???

Recently, a blog on here was posted by a very nice gentleman thumbs up, who is collecting sayings for a book. One saying that was not offered by anyone is, "good things come to those who wait". Most of us have heard this saying and like most sayings, there is some truth to it.

Certainly, patience is most often prerequisite to achieving goals. thumbs up Unfortunately, society is recently enamored with focusing solely on instant gratification. Indeed, far too many adhere to the mantra of 'if first you don't succeed, give up'. Now, don't get me wrong, if you are barking up the wrong tree, no amount of barking will help you. Indeed, it's likely to get you a swat with a rolled up newspaper laugh Obviously, it's much better to bark up the right tree. dancing dog So, you may have to change trees. In some cases, even family trees. laugh

Nonetheless, waiting itself, is most often insufficient. frustrated If you truly want to achieve your goals, you most likely have to do the work necessary to achieve those goals and even prior to this, need to hone your skills to enable you to do so. In most cases goals don't materialize simply by the mere act of waiting. Instead, we often need personal growth to better prepare us for our (hopefully) eventual success.

So, if you've failed at something (anything), it is prudent not to blame others, but to take a good look at the person in your mirror and examine what went wrong and then think about how an adjustment might be made to not only enable a better outcome, but to actively facilitate it's arrival. Unfortunately, not everyone does this. Some are afraid to look within, most prefer excuses, and some fear the 7 years of bad luck. laugh

While I offered "make stumbling blocks as stepping stones" as a saying that I adhere closely to, I also embrace the saying that "change is inevitable, growth is possible". What this means is that change is fairly constant. It happens most of the time and all around us. Rather than remain stagnant in our presence, it is wise to learn and grow. thumbs up Now, I don't mean growth in the waistline. laugh But, rather growth in knowledge, attitude and the innovative application of both.

May all the good people reading this JimNastics blog have eventual success in all your good goals. cheers

Jim,
thank you so much for a well thought out article this morning. I can't begin to tell you how much this hit home with me at this particular time. I happen to be at a crossroads once again in my life, and this blog just "hit the spot" with me. I am going to snag those quotes for my own personal quote book as well. Once again, thanks.

When you bark up the wrong tree...guess what, you could get hit with a fruit or a nut so find the right tree first and then bark at will..... rolling on the floor laughing
what - You deserve happiness. We all do. applause

derv - patience is a terrific attribute. thumbs up

lana - Sometimes you have to bark up many trees before you find a good one. peace
Patience and persistence pays off. (heard that somewhere)

Many move on after minor effort doesn't succeed.

I tend to apply major effort then move on reluctantly.

Both outlooks have their merits and their short-comings.

And as you point out (in different words)... you have to show up in order to win... if you want to be hit by opportunity, you need to play in traffic (er, well, something like that laugh )
Well, I wouldn't suggest "playing in traffic",
but certainly, you have to be "in it to win it".
However, it's better to be in things you are likely to win than things you are very unlikely to win.
If possible, do everything worthwhile to increase your odds. peace

Certainly a belief in YOURSELF is important. thumbs up
Some things are more easily obtained with a combination of confidence and suave. wink
However, blind faith itself is a bit useless.
It can lead to disappointment and a lot of wasted time.
