Super Sunday !
As most USA residents know, today is Superbowl Sunday.
There, of course, is the game itself
that decides which team is the champion for the year.
But, more prominent is the hoopla surrounding it.
Each year a different city hosts the game,
which this year is Indianopolis.
It's sort of ironic, because Indianopolis' team
(the Colts) have had their worst year in recent memory,
due to the fact, that their terrific quarterback, Peyton Manning (Eli's older Brother),
has been out the whole year, because of neck surgery.
Nonetheless, this rotation of host city
is done to literally spread the wealth.
Many $ millions are spent by visitors,
who travel there, not only to watch the game,
but join in the massive parties going on there
for two weeks continous preceeding the big game.
Also, an astonishing amount of money is spent on
advertising during the game.
The superbowl is usually the most watched TV program.
Over 11 million people watched last year.
This year the cost of a 30 second commercial is reported
to be about $3.5 Million dollars.
Often companies kick off (pun intended) their ad campaigns
during the Superbowl.
Indeed, it can make or break a company.
Indeed, for some people, the commercials are actually more
of an attraction and contest, than the game itself.
Some of the commercials are very endearing,
others are hilarious, and some flat out flop.
Most keep their commercials a secret until game time.
Two exceptions this year are the Ferris Bueller parody
ad for Honda, featuring Matthew Broderick,
which I already blogged about and the ad for a flower
distributer featuring the stunning, Victoria's Secret model,
Adriana Lima, which I also recently blogged.
Obviously, both commercials were hits with me.
Four years ago these two teams met in the Superbowl.
At that time the Patriots had already won several Superbowls
and were undefeated (18 & 0)during the regular season & playoffs that year.
The Giants pulled off a stunning come from behind win
in the final minute of the game,
as way of a touchdown catch by Plaxico Burress.
But, prior to this was a miraculous catch
by David Tyree securing the ball against his helmet,
after an impressive sack escape by QB Eli Manning.
It stands as one of the best plays in Superbowl history;
The game winning touchdown catch by Plaxico Burress was moments later.
Interestingly, neither Tyree nor Burress are still on the Giants.
But, Eli Manning is.
The Patriots were not close to being undefeated this year
(3 losses) and both teams were very lucky to make it to the big game this year.
In the last playoff games the Patriots narrowly escaped defeat by the Ravins and The Giants should have been defeated by the 49ers, but the replacement kick returner literally handed the ball to the Giants on two occasions.
The second time in overtime set-up the winning score.
So, this year, the Patriots are looking for revenge.
It should be an interesting game, because the Giants
handed the Patriots one of their three losses this year.
Plus, the Patriots are also looking for revenge for the
Superbowl 4 years ago, when the Giants cost them their
(almost) perfect season.
Kickoff is 6:20 pm est. Be there, or be square.
I'll be enjoying the game & those commercials at a party hosted by my aunt.

Thanks for the explanation Jim and have fun watching the game
SL - Oh come on ! There's a Canadian football league.
That's where players who can't make the NFL often end up.
After they prove themselves, some end up in the NFL and some even do well.
Joe Theisman and Warren Moon come to mind regarding this.
M - I know EXACTLY how you feel.
Thus, here you go;
