LIFE AND IT'S FRAGILITY OF IT ALL

Right by the doorstep of our lives, comes destruction not from the doings of man but from the unquestionable force of nature.

I was startled by the news that woke me up. A 6.0 earthquake registered on the Richter scale hit the heart of the WINE CAPITAL of the world. My hometown for the last 35 years.

The point of my blog is that here we are, with the majority of the super powers of our planet busy scheming for the elimination of mankind when in fact NATURE, in itself can do that in a split second. The worse part is whether we like it or not, there's nothing we can do.
When typhoon Haiyan devastated the Philippines in October of last year, 15,000 people perished, and many major Natural catastrophe have happened that cost man so much strife and destruction.

Now look at us, why can't we just use all our efforts to better our lives and leave nature to do its job of destroying us?

Thanks for reading, and I'd ask all of us who are interested to contribute or talk about any natural disasters that you are aware of whether involved directly or read about it. Is there anything we can learn from it?

Thanks for reading and commenting.

Your misunderstanding on such claim that I have lived in the Holocaust does demand clarification Scouse, here I am standing to be corrected if I'd made you feel such claim was made.
ETD ME MAKE IT CLEAR:I ONLY TAUGHT IN UNIVERSITY ABOUT SUCH A HORROR COM MIT TED AGAINST MANKIND, A TRAGEDY WITH NO AMOUNT OF POSSIBLE ABSOLUTION. I DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT. I ONLY LEARNED FROM MY HISTORY MAJOR WHITE CHANGED MY DIRECTION IN LIFE. IT'S BECAUSE OF THIS COM MISS IN OF INJUSTICE that made me become a University professor in the hope that my little contribution to the enlightenment of man through knowledge it would fulfill my personal desire that man would become compassionate, kind, generous and enjoy our inherent rights to be free.
This is the limit of my knowledge and if you don't believe that, I have nothing more to share to you.

I'm sorry for your injurious and misgivings of such a case so trivial to merit my time specially now that I'm still fresh with the jolt nature has done to us.
Thanks Z, my computer is acting up or I'd have not made so many typographical errors but KN light with your clarification I'm obliged to thanks you.
My appreciation as always Z.

I am amazed at such hate on your blog!!!...YOUR BLOG...obviously he cannot read well...keep on blogging lind...wine
I'm obliged to thank you. I'm shaking Z, as no name calling had ever happened in my whole life, I had been a lector and Eucharistic minister for 25 years in a Catholic church and this kind of treatment is not deserving of anyone but it goes to show how short tempered we are and how easily we are overcome with unpleasant and unbecoming attitude, traits we must endeavor to improve.
Thanks again.
Wallops, a while back I posted a blog about our responsibility to take care of this earth, the only one we can call while the scientists and astronomers are figuring out other planets out there that could be a reserve for mankind. Anyways yes, our increased knowledge and awareness of such a major call is no more as needed as now. Instead of harming our environment and killing our fellow man, I believe should be reserved to whom that gave us this very life.
Thanks Wallops, and let's start here with you and I. Our humble commitment to such a cause can go a long way, I hope.

Thanks again.
Sending love and hugs to you Lyndsey hug hug hug

No wonder you are shaking.. you set out here with a compassionate heart and going through yourself personal trauma with what has happened where you live... and you are fired at with unkind statements and untruth. Such unkindness is not warranted AT ALL.... I am hurt for you... bouquet bouquet bouquet teddybear
Me too, my friend, but this is how conflict and wars start I guess, from a simple misunderstanding that escalates to a major act of cruel and calculating injustice to humanity.

But I am okay my friend, one too many might stop me, for right now I'm alright. Thanks my friend.

Still hoping to meet you in Las Vegas.
Well my understanding is SF City Council dropped the Earthquake codes for new construction in the early 1990s. Builders complained they added too much to the cost of new buildings and the state codes would be sufficient. Hopefully they will prove correct if/when a big one hits. We had a 5.9 on the Eastern seaboard a couple of years ago and because it was the first strong one in 200 years it caught lots of folks by surprise. Hopefully no more for another 200, but I would be happier if we got some earthquake construction codes passed on the East coast too.
I left because i had things to do... icome back and find im in cahoots with LIndsey.....why scousey baby you jump on me ..i havnt the foggiest(that is how you say it there?)....but im used to it mr Scoosey...hows this?....Its all my fault(even though i dont know what i did...but...Im sure i did it!!!!!!...Like John Lennon says in one of his songs....Strange Days Indeed!!!!...
Thanks so much again my friend Wallops.
Ken it is amazing how they lay out the foundation of the building, it rolls like a roller skate not attached to the ground. A concept which was proven to avoid the tremor's effects when it shakes, according to one of my friend's son who's an engineer of one of the building.
Nam I'm glad you're back and face our adversary. The only thing is that he might have left and choose to opt silence. It's alright as long as spewing rabid is over.
LJ, civil engineering was my Major. Yes, rollers are one way. Hinged joints and sliding I beam joints and even counterweights and springs are all employed by various architects. Some are expensive and some not so much (and the costs of some materials/methods would drop if more builders employed those materials & methods).

The sad thing is not all areas or builders bother. Someday this will cost someone dearly.
Ken if I'm not mistaken, it is not a matter of choice to cut on the cost as the safety of the building and it's residents will be the major elements of consideration, therefore they impose the code as religious as meeting all the standards to serve its purpose.

Being projected to be very near for the expected occurrence, some buildings are retrofitted for possible strength to withstand the magnitude.

I'm sure it's cheaper than to rebuild when it is destroyed. Thanks Ken
