Cute recent story about Buddy.

Just in case you didn't see this story in yesterday's news, I figure that I would inform you.

An 85 year old rancher in Texas felt sick and was transported to the emergency room at the hospital by ambulance.

But, no one knew, that before the ambulance pulled away from the ranch, that the owner's beagle dog, Buddy, hopped on the side of the ambulance and rode outside for about 20 miles, before a driver flagged the ambulance down to let them know.

They had little choice but to bring the 25 pound dog in the ambulance for the rest of the ride to the hospital and Buddy even accompanied the owner into the hospital.

Buddy had been adopted only 4 months earlier from a shelter.

Any of us who have had pets, know that animals think and each shows individual personalities somewhat different than other members of the same species. It's been my experience, that this is not only true with pets, but wild animals too. Animals not only think, but they dream while they sleep.

Some people would like to believe that humans are way above the rest of the animal species. But, in reality each species has it's own capability and senses to sense and respond to the world around them. Some are very similar to ours. Some are beyond ours.
We all share the planet and mutual respect for each other and the planet itself is warranted.

Here's a link to Buddy's story;

When I saw the title I immediately was reminded of our own Buddy Blackwelder here on CS. RIP Buddy. blues
I believe pet animals do have, or develop souls. Association with people teaches them things. There have been several incidents where pet animals raised by humans were placed with feral animals and bad things happened to the ones who were pets. Their ways were strange and different from the feral behavior. No, that doesn''t prove a soul. But it does show something happens when we raise something or treat it with love.

Buddy's tale, the only thing surprizing me is he was able to hang on for the ride. I had pets that followed me for a mile walk to my school when I was a little kid. Filled me with fear for them too. More than once I had to keep big boys from hurting my cat and worried constantly a car would hit it or something happen to it while I was sitting in the school. More than once the poor thing was still sitting there at the end of the school day waiting to follow me home. Finally had to tell my parents to please don't let it out when I go to school and explain why. That ended that.

A decade or so ago there was a story about a dog the old man who owned the dog died at home in a small town. When the owner was buried the dog was there. He waited. He lay on top of the grave for years and wouldn't leave it. All efforts to coax it away failed. If carried away, as soon as it was released, it returned to the spot. Kind people would bring it food and someone put a dog house near the grave, but the dog would often just lay there on the spot where his owner was, waiting. Eventually the dog died, right there next to his owner. I am sure they are in Heaven together.
