Things I miss from the younger days.......

Things we did in our youth are disappearing......for example Drive in Movies. This was the best way to be safe with your girlfriend and have all sorts of fun in the car..alone.......The first movie I went to was the French Connection the only Frenching and Connecting was me all over her. I could not begin to tell you one thing about the movie...I never watched it..laugh Then bowling lanes, now a thing of the past they torn down the bowling alley in my town 15 years ago, I enjoyed balling bowling a lot, I even took it as an elective in college to just gym class. Now, gone the way of the dinosaur. Ice skating on a frozen pond...thanks to global warming ponds don't freeze sturdy enough.....what things have changed in your world since your youth????

Window shopping at night as the window displays look so much better at night. Now it is too dangerous.
Hi Ek, when I use to work in New York City I loved walking down 5th avenue during Christmas time, the window displays are phenomenal....actually I did that last year, so it's still possible here, but I can understand the concern.......
I don't even want to remember some of the stuff I do now in my older days let along remember what I used to do in my younger years.rolling on the floor laughing
Hi CC, remember while you can......laugh
Hi sands do I have to? I don't wanna and you can't make me so there.Na Na Na Na tongue wave
Drive-in, yup, still went after I married because that way the daughter could sleep in the back seat. Somehow wasn't the same, going with a husband. Well, my husband.

Still have bowling alleys here, and they are popular.

I never skated on a frozen pond but I do miss going to skating rinks. I think they're still out there, but I wouldn't dream of going to one now. I never saw ANYONE under 30 on the ice unless they were either side of a kid gingerly skidding between them.

I recently noticed a hopscotch outline drawn onto the pavement, that pleased me very much.

A lot of the stuff I enjoyed is still there but I got older and would stick out like a sore thumb.

I do sometimes miss being younger. Not often - but it happens.
Very rarely do I see Hopscotch chalk marks, but I have....now, only the scotch part is my memory.....banana Biff, I spent 3 weeks in Scotland and I can tell you, they make the best, the best scotch in the world... applause
Well, Sands, the next time you head over, we'll have a Scotch together. Deal?
Yep Avias, good ones....the swimming pool...that's a big one.....dinosaur land.....liability insurance too expensive and a diving board, which was the best...gone all gone.....
Ah!! CC, you just jogged me memory....we use to race cars on a back road we even marked it out quarter/half mile.......that was really great fun...how could I have forgotten???? I use to race my friend he had a Plymouth Road Runner 383 engine....ah!! I still remember the numbersrolling on the floor laughing
Biff, without a doubt.....cheers that's scotch in those mugsrolling on the floor laughing
Phew that's a lot of Scotch!! rolling on the floor laughing
Biff, while in Scotland I met the owner of the restaurant/hotel we were staying and he kept bringing me complimentary 40 year old scotch, I tell you remarkable absolutely remarkable, I still send him Christmas wishes......one thing I will add here, the Scottish people are the nicest people I have ever met in my travels, special thoughts to really really nice people there..
Glad I jogged your memory.laugh

Kids in my day used to race on back roads too. Some would play chicken and some would crash/burn and get hurt.

I was never stupid enough to do it though.Never chose to be part of the incrowd so to speak.
CC, Don't give up there's still time to buy that muscle car, they're making a comeback laugh

A sense of humor comes in pretty handy sometimes.Especially in this crazy messed up world.

I often laugh at myself.

wave We still have the drive -inn movies here, ten pin bowling and ice rinks. We also have mini golf, and all these I enjoyed with the grandkids.Being a hockey player and still very active, where I find the time to encourage children in the rural areas to play and land up taking cardboard boxes and sliding down steep hills, surprisingly enough not having broken bones as yet. rolling on the floor laughing yay lips lips
Hi Candy, that's it, I'm reclaiming my youth and moving to Cape Town...grin
wave Sandy why not I will never get old as I have a young spirit and still a lot of fire and childlike antics I enjoy. There is a time and place for everything ,but I love playing with the kids.lips lips
Free water, laugh
Hi Non, being from Waterford, that shouldn't be a problem, should it?laugh
Hi Sands,
You are quite right. The gross saturation of water in "the auld sod" is only matched by the saturation of greed in the Irish Parliament. wine
I used to enjoy swimming in the local river.

There were 3 different places we could swim, leading up to the section you weren't really welcome to, unless you were 16+, as that is where the flirting happened grin
Hmmmm!! Molly, lay down on my couch and tell me the detailsnerd writing grin
Hello sands88,handshake , I remember the family jumping into the car ,and going out to the farm. Gone are most of the family farms. They ve turned into corporate farms.
On my Grandparents farm ,there was no shortage of animals, from horses, to cattle, to turkeys and ducks.... but these days those type of farms are very rare. confused
HI 1, I guess the song goes Old Macdonald HAD a farm long time ago.....cheers
sands
Well from a kid perspective...kids do not hang out with each other and play outside in the neighborhood anymore like we used to...now there are play dates and malls for holding Halloween...sigh
I miss those days I spent on My Grandparents farm ,in my youth. The air seemed cleaner, the food tasted better, people were happier, yay yay yay We had some colder winters, good days, and bad, but we survived, without computors, cell phones.
Whats that old saying, Less is more, yay
Hey Lou, that's a good one, everyday in the street after school we would be playing some kind of a game, stick ball, football, anything with a ball. I can't remember seeing any kids playing in the street ever.....wave
Lou lou, I was talking to a long time friend ,the other day about Halloween, Do you remember collecting candy at Halloween in pillow cases, that was a standard practice, yay yay
Hi Sands, I miss the dragon flies and fire flies. sigh
sands and 1to1
Yes it was simpler times and kids had spent their energy well...now kids are getting more idle...diabetes and obesity...a huge problem for North Americans...moping sigh
1, for the summers we had a home in the Catskill Mountains (New York) and we only had chickens, but your right, chicken tastes nothing like it use to.....and the country life was cool.....definitely less is morewave

Yes...pillow cases and getting lots of candy...then going back for more!!...those were the days!!wine
Hi Usha, another good one, I hadn't seen a fire fly in years the other day the cat caught one and brought it in the house. I gave up trying to find it, I guess I could shut all the lights and detectivebut hey there's enough room for alllaugh Also, haven't seen any dragonflies in a long time eitherdunno I remember collecting jars full of fire flies, I was trying to get 5 watts of lightslaugh
When I was growing up, it seemed like every school ,in our town , had an outdoor rink in winter, for hockey, skating. Someone would be teaching figure skating, and teaching the little ones how to skate. That kept us kid busy thru out the winter. Now a days just a few ,very few schools have outdoor rinks in winter, confused
1, skating is a great way to burn calories now like Lou said our kids are obese and diabetic........
One of the biggest things I miss ,from when I was growing up was, on Sundays, the big stores were closed, as well as the bars, and a lot of the restaurants . Sundays were more of a day for families, visiting, and gatherings. Nowadays Sundays are just another day.confused
