Sneazles

Sudden rush of colds and flu and even - gasp - manflu around at the moment. So how do you cheer yourself up when your head feels like someone has poured concrete through your ears, your nose has been blown so often it is sore to the touch, everything tastes like mud, and you ache from head to foot? I've been sneezed on from all directions at work today. I've seen the future, and it isn't pretty. help

EDITED COMMENT. I'M NOT SICK - YET. THE WHOLE WORLD AROUND ME IS SICK AND BREATHING GERMS OVER ME. I WANT TO BE READY FOR IT. And now I will stop shouting. grin

So. How do you handle this thing if it happens?

Take to your bed and call croakingly for a cup of tea before you remember, damnit, you're single. (Lucky you with those who will bring a cup of tea!)

Hot bath, hot toddy, and a pile of blankets?

A bottle of brandy? Hic

Chocolate?

I'm of the chocolate persuasion myself but I just wondered if anyone had good ideas.

Oh, and I'm told if you blow your nose every time you sneeze you will never have a cold. If you leave a peeled onion next to the bed, your cold will be gone by morning. Or smear Vicks on your feet and put on heavy wool socks to kill a cough stone dead.

So if you don't have a way to feel better, maybe you have a guaranteed cure ...

Live in a place with few people & you shouldn't catch one in the first place, oh & hold your breath when you go shopping professor rolling on the floor laughing

I use a cold remedy that helps shorten the course of a cold or flu...ask your pharmacist...hope you feel better soon...comfort
Thanks Z that may be your most useful comment ever roll eyes Quite apart from the fact I'm female and take about 20 minutes to shop. I've been smoking too many years to hold my breath that long.

I'm amazed I made it this far through the winter without catching the dreaded lurgy so I doubt I'll escape. mumbling
Lou so far I'm feeling fine, I'm being proactive here after a day spent in a semi-permanent snotty mist. I'm the last man standing in the office, the odds are against me ... laugh
Biff, you just need someone to pamper you. Thats the best part of getting a cold.
Hope you feel better soon and get rid of it before you travel over.
If you do get one & have to go outside, be sure to get a man to walk in front of you, with a bell, clang clang, unclean professor laugh rolling on the floor laughing
Thankfully since leaving the gray damp Island with its permanently snotty and coughing gray people...(not all Brits) I have not had many colds, A hot toddy with honey, lemon, cloves and a good dollop of whiskey sorts me out...even if I dont have a cold.
wave

hope you feel better handshake heard about the onion thing, but heard place options on your bed stand for 3 days and then burn them......place onions out again...repeat and or place Vick or honey hot mustard on the bottom of your feet as you said with socks, repeat for 3 days and if you sneeze, blow your nose and it's "green" mucus color.....you your sick drinking or if you sneeze, folktales say, getting the devil out of you....that's a good thing hug

hope u feel better soon teddybear
I tend to do the ODing on Vitamin C thang.

I rarely get a cold in the first place because I eat so much fruit and veginnocent but when I do I douse it in high UMF manuka and turmeric and Vit C.

It tends to decide it cause more misery in somebody else, and leaves grin
Ish just been chatting to a friend with a streaming cold on Skype and thinking I am soooo glad to be too far away to be expected to pamper anyone haha

I'm so selfish - but actually I don't expect pampering myself. Cups of tea and fresh tissues at regular intervals, throw the occasional bar of chocolate through the door, and I would be extremely grateful and want no more laugh
Map, that sounds like a well-balanced diet to cure all ills rolling on the floor laughing
Thanks 123 and I shall bear the remedies in mind if I do get sick

so far so good - fingers crossed!
Molly, I live on echinacea from Sept to March. That or the smoking, one of the two, keeps me healthy when all others are turning green and crawling on their hands and knees. :smug face:
wave I'm kind of lucky as only getting them every two years.
Must be because I live in the heaviest polluted stretch in

You don't think it is being physically fit that keeps you cold-free?
I think this may be the most boring blog I ever did. sigh

Sorry. I'll think up something better next time. wave
No, I think the climate is a factor. Once outside the Toronto
area, the air is beautiful.thumbs up
Eleg, there is a show on Channel 4 now which could be the theme grin
... and also, how many people one interacts with, public places,
etc, means you can pick up the airborne virus quite easily.
No no biff be gentle with yourself, I write the boring blogs and always think, next time I will do better moping Iike your blog, its informative, we all get sick, nice tricks, to help out thanks teddybear
I don't think it is your most boring blog so far.rolling on the floor laughing

I don't think this blog is boring, it's just quiet here tonight, unlike "the old day" when I got 69 comments on a blog about garden sheds rolling on the floor laughing

No don't tell me. BED.

If you do put an answer on this blog, make sure you hint a lot. Use euphemisms based on, hmm, anything really.

Would hate it to be deleted before I get to read it!
Record it on +1 if you can

I've heard of Sneezles but never Sneazles.grin dunno
Z Thank you for the link but I had already looked it up prior to commenting.
sorry to see you with a cold it can be miserable .don't know why but I never get one last time id say thirty years ago maybe its what we eat .I see my own their adults taking lem sip and different things and they often say da how do you not get have no answer really because I does all the wrong things going out without a coat with wet hair and such .I do eat different than them no doubt that's all I can see
PS. I do suspect that maintaining physical fitness may help in warding off common illnesses conversing

I'm lucky I live in a temperate climate which allows me an outdoor lifestyle for the major part of the year .. I walk everyday and cycle 2-3 times a week, weather permitting.

My long-held vegetarian diet seems to suit and helps keep my weight down; I also think a positive attitude helps plus being grateful for having a healthy body as I grow older wine
Elegsa, I hope you feel well soon! cheering cartwheel dance danceline drink pouring dancing dog angel2 happy place
KN, don't mock manflu, scientists have proved flu is far more serious for men.

Mind you I think they were male scientists. roll eyes

On a similar note, that guy musing about women saying scoffingly that giving birth is FAR worse than getting kicked in the goolies. Maybe so, he said, how will we ever know? However many women decide to have a second child. He has never met a man who thinks he is ready for a second kick in the goolies.
CS, I am slightly disappointed in you.

Warmth, empathy, saying nice things, full marks hug

Actual useful suggestions - not so much. Lots of too-healthy-to-be-sick people trying hard not to sound smug. A couple of alcohol options. A man shouting unclean. Cures? Huh. laugh

I suppose the old sayiing is true, treat a cold properly and it will be gone in a week. Ignore it, and it will hang on for as long as 7 days.

So far so good. Not even a blocked nose. Fingers crossed ...
Biff.....wear a gasmask.....all day.....a gasmask and that hat....would help you a lot...jmo....grin rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing luvs yer....rolling on the floor laughing wave wave your toy boy.rolling on the floor laughing
