Lastminute.don't!

Ok this is a cautionary tale because I reckon pretty much all of us have either used lastminute.com or thought about it. Right? Great deals.

Well, I've been happy in the past, so I'm not knocking them (much) (okay I am) but had a Lastminute.com Experience this time which was an eye-opener. We were due to come back with TAP (Air Portugal, known lovingly to all as Take Another Plane) midday today - nice lazy morning, friend taking us to airport, only problem had been that we hadn't managed to do the boarding passes before the holiday. So what's the big deal? We'll have time at the airport to print them off, flight only leaves at 1.30.

However one of the staff at the hotel heard us talking about it and said hmmm, TAP, better safe than sorry, use the hotel pc / printer (by the way, highly highly recommended hotel, Pergola House, a converted Med villa, beautiful). So we ambled off to do that thing.

Odd. Our flight reference is now coming up for a flight before 07h00? I rang Lastminute.don't and they said oh, okay, we'll phone them but you probably should phone too. They gave us two phone numbers, both out of service. Hotel gave us another number and we hung on and hung on and hung on and gave up. Meanwhile I was reading the original booking and here's the warning. In teeny tiny letters it says flights may be subject to alterations of up to 24 hours

Long story short, up at 04h00 to catch flight. Happy 6 hour wait at Gatwick to catch connecting flight to Edinburgh. It could have been the other way round so be warned - if you use lastminute.don't, be careful. If you use TAP, confirm confirm confirm because at no time did they contact us or lastminute.don't to mention that if we pitched up for our flight at 1 we were going to be a little put out.

Oh and still waiting to hear back from lastminute.don't. very mad

The one good thing was that I had been worrying about the turnaround times to catch the Edinburgh flight - just over an hour between flights - and nearly nearly NEARLY cancelled and booked a later flight.

That would have been ironic. roll eyes
Oh joy just got an automated phone survey from the lastminute people. Using your keypad, between 0 and 9 please indicate how happy you were with our service ... devil
I did have a dream catcher beforethumbs up It did not work,
so I set it on fire.head banger
Pedal, my lovely, this is the last blog where that comment would be noticed by the person you are addressing it to. laugh
Pull the blog, and put up another one.laugh
About dreamcatchers?

All I wanted to do was warn people to read the small print moping
It's been a while since I've been back to the UK, but I can't understand why anyone would use anything but the two main budget airlines confused personally I prefer my jet to be Easy laugh as the other one would charge you for the oxygen in the cabin if they thought they could get away with it doh
I'm dying to know if it's true what they say about Portugal, did the plane have engines or was it really clockwork dunno grin
Tell you what, though, the BA flights from and to Edinburgh were rather nice. And cheap. And on time rolling on the floor laughing
Well of course British Airways can fly around Britain, it's when they try & "go abroad" the problems start rolling on the floor laughing
Z they may withdraw their offer to make you their marketing director scold
Glad you are back Biff, hope you enjoyed your time with Mr Bond but not with Portugal. Next time bring him to Spain.
Seems like Mr Bond doesn't talk much, seems very relaxed ( is he always like that)
Well hope to see you both in Spain soon. I'm off for a week holiday to coast again. Can't wait.
Hi Ish! wave Maybe Mr Bond was tired. We're both exceedingly elderly, you know.

Yay, enjoy your holiday!
You made me laugh, I bet you did tire him out. Let him rest, guess you will have him busy again soon.
Say hi to him and tell him I can't wait to meet him in person and I promise not to chat as much as I normally would.
" We're both exceedingly elderly, you know."

He's supposed to be Mr Bond........not Mr Kipling laugh rolling on the floor laughing
I sleep on the plane too.
I've trained myself to.
Sometimes I am asleep before we even take off, and wake when landing laugh
I have been banished from certain future blogsblues

Ish, you can tell him yourself, he's back on UK time, albeit in London. (Long story).

I do know he wants to meet you. But then so does everyone who saw that pic of us together. I feel invisible in it. Oooh, they say, who's THAT? Huh.

Coming to Ireland?
Molly, you miss out on all the goodies? Like our TAP breakfast. Ham and cheese roll with a kind of pureed pear juice / baby food thing that was the exact consistency to make your stomach rise to meet it rolling on the floor laughing
Oh, Pedal. comfort

Do one of your own. And ban all but the chosen few?
Biff, that is the one downside alright blues

I might ask them to wrap the baby puree sandwiches for me in future idea
doh I should have kept it and posted it to you. What was I thinking?
Any date for Ireland yet? I would definitely love to see you and Molly again and meet others. I wonder if I will ever get to try those Gingernut biscuits. Ireland is on my travel list so sooner or later will be over there. DC is hopefully traveling over in Sept so maybe we can do it together.
Map, hey!

I've had good trips and taken them for granted, I will just be more careful in future. I'd have been royally stuffed if TAP had decided to put us on a later flight, not an earlier one!
Ish, I think Itchy is talking of August, but if there is any chance of getting DC as well I'm going whenever you and she are going rolling on the floor laughing
Hey, welcome back Biff! cheering

I fly Ryanair most of the time, especially since flights to Brussels are that cheap. confused Never heard of your crowd, but if I ever do, I'll avoid them. laugh Hate hanging around airports blues but seeing that I usually get up at around 3-4 in the night to fly home, I sleep through most of the flights. conversing

Let me know when you come to Ireland, would love to meet EVERYONE and if anyone wants to come to Kilkenny, I'll happily play tour guide. applause
Heard and witnessed rolling on the floor laughing KN you have a deal
Great, yay Kilkenny is a nice place.

Oh, and they have a new zipline in the 'hood. cool

I'll watch admiringly from the ground. laugh wave

SO not a comment you could have made on the forums rolling on the floor laughing you might get away with it here roll eyes
I am worse than doubting Thomas everything online. I do some bookings online and always calls the company to see if everything is right. No machine can tell me to press one for blah blah blah. I always talk to a person and check if everything is okay.laugh doh call me mad but now I know I am not.laugh laugh And I would definitely not try anything last minute.laugh
Well at least you got back safe and sound. Plus, an interesting episode for when you write your memoires.
Wow that was a bumer, I am trying to juggle hols around to get to itchys gathering, but will use easy jet if can make it, and find which airport best to land. Will you all be going???teddybear
Usha, you and me both from now on, boy oh boy. I guess you get what you pay for, good deals carry risks, my daughter went on a lastminute. holiday to Turkey a few years ago and found the extremely good deal was because the 5* hotel was in the middle of renovations laugh

Research research research ... and check everything cool
That would upset me so!
