I know I'm right. My friends say so.
Social media has given us voices that go far, far beyond people we’ve met, beyond our homes and offices. We chatter a lot, we make friends, get quite addicted to counting our friends (never mind the quality, feel the width). Some of my Twitter contacts have over quarter of a million followers, and follow as many back. They take this stuff seriously. The big turning point was when we learned our virtual voice was HUGE . We can rock governments, we can direct policy, we can change the very world. Yes! You and me!
WOW. The POWER!
Whoa. Hang on. One of my virtual friends has a different take on events? UNFRIEND (or UNFOLLOW) Oh, but hang on, that reduces my friends / follower count. Hmmm.
I’ll just block their notifications from my FB timeline, or mute the hashtags they use on Twitter when they are being boring. Sorted!
So now I can look smugly down my timelines, and see nothing that disagrees with my views on life.
The worrying little flaw in this is that it doesn’t seem to occur to anybody that they have filtered out conflicting opinions. They believe they share the views of every one of their hundreds of virtual friends. I’ve noticed the growing trend on FB and Twitter, bet you have too, towards being dogmatic, arrogant, intolerant and completely bigoted. I turned off notifications just today from a woman who has her head twisted so far to the left it’s a wonder she doesn’t fall down stairs.
So thank you, bloggers of CS, for your huge range of blogs. We may ignore the ones that don’t look, from the titles, as if they will fit our view on life, but we can’t ignore that other people, however misguided do have another view on life. In time this could become one of the few places left on social media where that still happens. That would be ironic - that we lot, with our strong views on any and everything, are the last people in the world who even realize there are other points of view.

So she probably believes she dazzled and converted me with her brilliance and has the support of every one of her hundreds of FB friends. Just as I believe I have the support of mine.
I wonder how many of us are completely wrong. And if it even matters? Except that we are all becoming very sure of ourselves and very intolerant of what we think is the tiny minority who disagree.
Almost midnight here, can't sleep
Maybe I'll have some coffee?
Honest
Then I thought nah I'll just post a general meaningless comment and cover all bases
Hi biff
Bend over so I can smack you up the heid.
Guilty yet again.
We trained you well, young Skywalker
But I just finished a big bowl of chicken feet!
Sorry, out of topic
BIFFF!
Yikesssssssssss! I'm gonna have nightmares later!
FREEZING out there. I may never return.

Obviously there isn't a different point of view cause they are know-it-alls and how come know it alls can't do it all?
I need to get myself a shirt with that know it all thingy on the front and the back of it.
CC please order one of those shirts for me too
(with long sleeves)
(it was very, very cold out there)
Back shortly with coffee. Talk among yourselves.
I do of course realize that a whole bunch of bloggers already ignored the whole blog just because it was me who posted it. Someday may try the experiment of two or three people posting exactly the same blog and see how many bloggers even notice it has been duplicated
In this blog land, there are so many topics, so many varieties of opinions, disagree and agree, what a beautiful way of sharing. It is like going to a library and you can choose which and what to read to fit your wants and likes.
I watched a debate between two Fb friends the other evening. One is fiercely pro gun ownership and the other, furiously against. The debate was articulate and very interesting but I'm sure both left their keyboards feeling a bit miffed. As heated as it got, neither blocked nor "unfriended" the other, it was quite refreshing.
I think some of us are more vocal about our views....and don't we all think we're right?
Share the link plz?
Seems like a nice one to witness....I will call it a miss! :(
That is how it should be, all have right to have there respective perspectives!
2 years ago CS was the last place I expected interesting debate. It is now becoming the only place to find it!
Um, that should be, I love arguing with someone who listens and tries to demolish my argument. Not with someone making sweeping statements which don't actually relate to the subject in hand.
Yes we all think we're right! This blog is more about noticing those - and as of today that includes me - who are 'cleaning up' our social media by just sweeping other points of view out of sight.
Your pro-gun friend could tidy up her timeline until there is no-one on there who is anti-gun. She could then come to believe that anyone who is anti-gun is incapable of mastering anything as complicated as social media because they are so stupid ... rational discussions between rational people holding opposite points of view are the basics of tolerance. Refusing to accept there could be a rational opposition is frightening. To my mind.
And er, which side are you on? Apparently from the non-Bong side, got that bit.
