I Scream, You Scream...

We all scream for ice cream. Remember that? I think it was a commercial, way back when. One of my favourite foods in the summer time is ice cream. In the winter it's too darn cold here so I stay away from it, but summer - all bets are off! I don't think I've ever had a flavour I didn't like, although there are some that I like more than others.

My favourites seem to fluctuate, and currently my favourite is mango ice cream. Mmm mmm! It's so refreshing, it's just finishes dinner off superbly. However, with my blood pressure being as high as it's been, I've been staying away from any foods that are high in sugar or salt. Darn, eh?

The good news? My blood pressure is down to normal the past few days, and was just slightly elevated last night, no doubt due to the heat. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's why it was so high when the doctor took it - it was the hottest day we've had so far this summer. I don't do well in the heat, and have a tendency to hide indoors when it gets really hot.

Yes, I know I could opt for frozen yogurt instead of ice cream, but there's still a lot of sugar in any frozen dessert. Then I remembered I have an ice cream maker that I purchased a few years ago and how delicious the ice cream was, using erythritol instead of sugar. I've retrieved the ice cream maker from the nether regions of my cupboard and have decided to make lemon ice cream as my first dip back into making it.

The base is freezing as we speak, and I figure by the time I return home from yet another bike ride, it'll be ready for me to add the ingredients. Along with some fresh blueberries, lemon ice cream sounds pretty enticing. But then, I think any ice cream would.

Lemon may be my new favourite ice cream, unless I make some mango ice cream of my own. But then again, there's chocolate, mocha almond fudge, and on and on. Decisions, decisions.

Yes we all scram for ice cream. rolling on the floor laughing
Hey wenever! - I love chocolate anything, pretty much. rolling on the floor laughing
It's minus someting over here so think I'll rather take some soup...thank you. I don't like ice cream much but can appreciate it on after shopping on a hot day.
laugh
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. 1925
Bear - yum!! That sounds decadent. mmm mmm. Hoping my ice cream maker hurries up and freezes soon! lol
ekself - I don't eat ice cream when the weather's cold either. Any time on a hot day is fine with me. grin
Conrad - thanks!! Wow, it sure goes back a long way, doesn't it? 93 years old and we're still quoting it. Shows you how effective their advertising was.

thumbs up
The store was.low on ice cream last week they didnt have my favorite orange sherbert so i.bought some vanilla.it goes good on pies.
I'm not a big fan of ice cream, it's one of my least favorite desserts but I love pudding, pies & cakes.

My first attempt at Chia Pudding in Coconut Milk is drinkable, I have to work on the recipe but you talk ice cream and I will go enjoy the Chia pudding drink, now that is delicious to me. Sort of Funny too, that I have to drink my pudding.

If I did eat ice cream I would have to nuke it first because I like to drink that too. especially if there is rum in it.
I'm not as much a lover of ice cream as other people, although I do enjoy it occasionally.
I rarely buy it though.
I make my own. Usually vanilla, but I'll add fresh fruit if I feel like it.
You could make some fruit smoothies. thumbs up
I'm not as big a fan as some but I have had a hankering for a dipped cone. I also like an occasional scoop of butter pecan and of course, chocolate is among the favorites. Once in a while is enough for me. My son would eat it all day long and he's no kid laugh
I don't scream, but enjoy it quietly before the kids rush in. laugh
blue - vanilla is my least favourite ice cream, even though it's good on something else. Otherwise, to me, it's boring. rolling on the floor laughing
Fay - I haven't even looked up chia pudding, but seeing as I have an ice cream maker, I may as well use it! grin
Molly - as the store bought ice creams are mostly ice milk and sugar now, it's probably healthier to make your own anyway. Besides, they're loaded with chemicals, no matter how 'good' the ice cream.
Jim - you talking to me or someone else? I don't like 'drinking' things I'm supposed to chew, thanks. grin
kp - I'm with your son on that, except there's something in ice cream (from the store) that makes me sneeze and sneeze and sneeze and why I have to be careful of how much I consume.
1to1 wave Lucky you! Sometimes it's a curse when you really love a certain food. Especially when it's nutritional value is questionable. rolling on the floor laughing
bloody awful - good plan! I'd have certain treats hidden when my daughter was home and bring them out to eat after she'd gone to bed. Or when she was out of the house. rolling on the floor laughing
The store where I work has a brand of premium ice creams that can be rather expensive, so I have to wait until they're on sale....like NOW! Currently I have Columbian Coffee in my freezer, as well as chocolate peanut butter. (The peanut butter in that ice cream must have extra sugar in it, and you have to wait for it to melt in your mouth before it's soft enough to eat. Truly decadent!)

Vanilla ice cream is AMAZING in the center of a cantaloupe, in August or September. (Just sayin'....)
Cherry Garcia...

Imp, time permitting, I'm going to blog about my dad and ice cream.
It's a great story, hopefully I'll post it by the weekend.
chat- I'm not sure I've had 'Cherry Garcia' but I've had black cherry ice cream... mmmm - so good.

Looking forward to the blog about your dad.
I've never been bitten by the sweet tooth. Savory on the other hand....
Imp is it all melons you are not fond of? I don't like canteloup all that much but I love every other melon.

My poor baby boy is totally allergic to melons so when I make a fruit bowl it is loaded with many fruits but never melons along with a honey lime drizzle. My boy and bro also are not fond of ice creams. We eat them occassionally just never crave it.
TR - consider yourself very lucky! thumbs up
Fay - it is only cantaloupe - I enjoy honeydew and watermelon. I won't eat a fruit salad with cantaloupe in it, even though one could pick out the cantaloupe - the problem is, the flavour of it transfers to everything else. yuck!
You would eat my fruit salad then. I also make that hawaiian cheescake fruit salad and it was a big hit with no melons too. I think you posted that recipe oh heck I've made several of the recipes you have posted.

So how did you homemade ice cream come out?
I love chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream! Of course I love chocolate ice cream too. Another favorite is moose tracks....love those huge chunks of chocolate. Yep, I have a weakness for chocolate if you can’t tell. rolling on the floor laughing
I like Cookies n’ Cream Ice Cream, among other flavors and yogurt ice cream good to
Fay - I never ended up making the ice cream! I was too tired and it's been so hot I haven't wanted to do anything. Maybe I'll make it this morning.

grin
bluewind - love moose tracks ice cream! Unfortunately, it's one of those ice creams that make me sneeze a lot - so although I like it, it doesn't like me much.
