"After clearly reminding us all that Sheriff Mueller had to play by the rules (in ways that won't make him popular to the rubes today but will establish him as the torch bearer of justice in the history books), Schiff then provided a denouement worthy of Aaron Sorkin (or to keep the metaphor going, Dwight Taylor and Mark Sandrich) by none-too-subtley following up the assumptive close with a clear list of actions we can expect to see in a series of sequels. And all I could think of while listening to the closing argument was "Speaker of the House Schiff, President Schiff, Supreme Court Justice Schiff - or is there time for all three?" Ok, your turn to now flood me with your weak, pathetic arguments. Be sure that I will defend to the death your right to be so wrong. But please, be "en pointe.""
When I worked at the Co-op feed store, they supplied me with steel toe work boots. I remember clumping up and down the stairs with those lead weights. The first week I wore them my legs ached from the extra weight. I'm surprised you didn't mention your legs ached from wearing them.
Instead of us having to claim them on our income tax, the company just supplied them for us. But then, they also sold them in the store - so it was just a matter of going over to the store and trying them on. :)
I meant to add that I only had two tomato plants last year. With four this year, I'm sure I'll have enough tomatoes not only for Mom and I, but probably a few other people as well.
Mom had grown a whole bunch of tomatoes, but being in a condo, nowhere to plant them. I ended up finding homes for about 8 plants! I think, because she's sight impaired, it gives her something to do and it's satisfying that she can still grow stuff.
Having no experience in growing things in your area, I'm of absolutely no help at all. I used to have a black thumb, and everything I tried to grow died. I don't know what changed, but all of a sudden, I could grow almost anything. When I lived on my farm, I had a fabulous veggie garden. The biggest problem was keeping the birds away from my strawberries as they ripened.
As the garden was raised, I didn't have problems with critters eating everything, but slugs and snails are always an issue here. Slug and snail bait fixed that.
Having pneumonia during planting season this year put a kibosh on planting much of anything. Mom gave me four tomato plants with the caveat that I give her some of the bounty. No problem, seeing as I'll never eat that many tomatoes. I had fresh tomatoes right up until Christmas last year.
She's started a zucchini for me, and I have to get that into the ground either this week or next.
She's grown green beans in planter pots but with my lack of wellness, I was lucky to get the tomatoes in. Maybe next year, I'll get some green beans in.
I don't know what to tell you about growing things in Florida. I'm sure there are people around you that are very familiar and can and have given you all kinds of information.
Of course, you could always move back to the PNW, grow stuff, and we could visit.
Geesh - I guess your climate must be perfect for them. That they eat gators is a good thing, but I'm not sure which one I'd prefer. Gators I think. Snakes are really gross. Anyone that posts a pic of a snake, I immediately hide the post.
That the pythons got loose and are breeding like mad is scary, imo.
Thanks Fay! I just haven't had time until now, as you probably know. I've taken a bit of a break from taking photos 8 hours a day 7 days a week. I've had pneumonia and had a one on one workshop with an architectural photographer at the same time, so had no time to rest. It's caught up to me, and so I've deactivated my facebook profile for now, just to give myself time to get other things done.
I really like the one eye with the fingers and the mouth, not both eyes. It's too much. Less is more. You've done a great job with it. Do you paint also? With acrylic? You remind me of a friend I had that used to paint abstracts in acrylic. He painted some awesome things and even had galleries wanting him to display his work.
The only reason I suggest acrylic rather than watercolour is that watercolour requires glass and a frame, while acrylic can be painted directly on canvas. I'm a watercolorist and absolutely love the medium, but I hate that they all need glass and frame (which can get expensive, never mind heavy!).
I don't ponder human nature because many humans aren't worth pondering. The ugliness displayed these days is quite unbelievable in a so-called 'civilized' country. Our consumerism society is actually consuming us, and at some point, it all has to collapse because it's just not sustainable.
For me, camera gear is the latest 'want' although art supplies would be a close second. That being said, though, I haven't spent any money on either of those hobbies for awhile now, as I'm just too busy out taking photos. And enjoying the company of four legged animals, vs the two-legged variety that leaves much to be desired.
I personally don't care what 'studies' say - I feel better when I exercise before eating. I get up early in the morning and go for a 9 mile bike ride around the perimeter of my town, come home, have a hot beverage, THEN have something to eat. For the occasional times when I'm out longer than expected, I take along a bottle of water and a packet of trail mix for the occasions I feel light-headed.
For the most part, though, I feel a lot better and more motivated than if I eat something first. I guess the bottom line is, people will exercise when it fits with their schedule and what feels the best for them.
Biff - well, I'm a little late responding, but better late than never. lol. I'm so busy out taking photos and editing them, I don't have time for much else. And yes, this is the kind of job I like, where I wake up each morning looking forward to what I can create that day. I'm sure you know that same feeling.
Fay - thank you! You've always been such a great supporter and I really appreciate that. It's a bit daunting due to the size of the project, but at the same time, very flattering.
Interesting blog, Harbal. I did know that trees communicated with one another, and find their entire system fascinating. Have you seen a recent meme that compares the rings of a tree to a fingerprint of a human? I have a feeling that nature is a lot smarter than us, and one day we'll get the comeuppance we deserve for being so arrogant.
Thanks Fay - yeah, I'm waiting for the $$ to pour in too. lol. Visiting you would be fantastic! As for the other, pffft - gone. Too many other good things in life to focus on.
jac - all very good suggestions. However, the problem is that many of them have no idea how to take a good photo of their work, and they have no idea how to upload said photo. When I was doing the website, I'd tell them to reduce their photos to x pixel by y pixel - and I'd inevitably get a bunch of photos that were huge and an excuse, they didn't know how (and didn't want to learn).
So although your suggestions are good, I simply have no desire to do it. That's why they asked me to photograph their work and/or scan it, because it's not a job anyone wants due to the amount of work involved.
I'm fine with leaving it at a simple no. They had no problems in taking away the duties I did like, and I have no problems in saying no to duties I have no interest in.
As for your tailoring - oh boy! Having sewn my own clothes for many years, I can imagine some of the things you'd run across.
jac - yes, I do as well, as I was brought up to be a 'pleaser'. Sometimes there comes a bit of gut-wrenching fear before the no comes out. But once it's out, there's also a sense of elation and ability to move on with no remorse. If I'd said yes, I would have been doing something I wouldn't want to do, trying to please everyone, knowing there'd be at least one person that would be mad because their artwork didn't turn out the way they wanted it to. Then my name would be raked through the coals, I would have spent hours and hours trying to make it perfect to the detriment of my own projects, and no one would be happy in the end. Least of all, me.
I'm actually quite flabbergasted that they had the nerve to ask me to do this horrible job, after relieving me of all the other jobs I enjoyed doing without any notification or conversation. I wonder why the other graphic designer who took over all my other duties didn't step up for this? I can tell you why - because it's not anything anyone wants to do.
I'm just shaking my head at it and them, laughing.
It's this kind of thing that I'd have ended up doing years ago. Thank goodness for aging and doing one's own thing!
jac - thank you! Yes, I can return to watercolours when I feel like it. I don't know why they seemed to think I'd want to do such a horrible job. I guess I was supposed to be honoured they asked me - not! The great thing about getting older is you no longer care if you 'please' someone or not, and have the ability to discern what is and is not, good for you.
I love watercolours, but photography has become my creative outlet, now.
TR - good for him! Lots of people find that retirement, per se, isn't for them. As long as he's enjoying what he's doing (or did), that's the whole point of life, isn't it?
Molly - seems to be quite common for a lot of people. But it's great that he's busy, as it keeps him interested in life. I've heard so many stories of people that retire and don't know what to do with themselves. I can't imagine that, but I suppose it does happen.
RE: "WENEVER"...("WENNY")
I'm so sorry to hear this, he was such a nice man. May he RIP.Thanks for your persistence in finding out and keeping us informed, Nam.
