The wall... unit that is!

Two weeks ago I was installing pendant lights and this past weekend I was designing a brick faced wall unit. My daughter decided she wanted a fireplace built-out wall unit. She found a local company who had photos on their site but needed my help for placement in the family room.
She an my son-in-law are busy decorating the house they recently moved to and now that the sectional furniture arrived a buffet unit was purchased. Unhappy with the TV being mounted to an empty wall the brick wall unit became an item of interest.
Someone used a design program for the sofa and placement of the wall unit was equally spaced on the back wall. However, it pushed the sofa so close to the side in interfered with the sliding door access.
Measuring tape and pieces of paper represented the locations of the item to be built. I strongly disagreed the unit should be centered. "No, it doesn't fit the room" said I.
The answer was 'yes' that all the sofa components were modular and re-configuring the layout was possible. So, we moved one piece and magically... the sofa fit and so did the wall unit in the location I suggested.
It was late and I packed my laptop. Everyone was delighted I found the design solution to her wall unit.
On the way home I got some Pollo Tropical Cuban style grilled chicken and had a mini-feast!

A weekend of laughs and lots of drinking.

I went to a party this last weekend. My cousin's eldest daughter turned 18, so my brother, sister, mother and I had to drive from just south of Copenhagen to the southern part of Denmark. The border with Germany was a 20 minute drive away from where we were having the party.

Anyway, we set off at 11 am, and we arrived at around 2 pm. We then got settled in in our accommodation, and then we drove to the party site. A huge party tent was standing there, music was blaring out of it, and a lot of food was being brought in. When I say a lot, I really mean a LOT. Think Roman times food feasts. That's the level of food they presented. We are talking steaks, sausages, bread, a LOT of greens, dressings, cheese, fruit and whatnot. It was insane! The food was amazing! I have never eaten as much as I did then. Holy moly it was good! On top of that, there were unlimited items to drink, including soda, beer and wine.

Once the food was over, the alcohol and snacks hit the table, the music went up, and people went mad on drinking, dancing and just having fun. I got to talking with a guy and his wife. The wife was a cousin of the birthday girls mother, and her husband was SO much fun! They were on their honeymoon in Scotland, so we bonded over just how amazing Scotland is.

At one point, we were presented something called a "kinder surprise shot". Oh my that was good! But it's also extremely dangerous! The ingredients are 1 part Liquor 43, 3 parts chocolate milk and one part whipped cream. Mix it well, and serve over ice. When I get paid again, I am buying a bottle of Liquor 43, and then I am definitely making those again! Wow they were good.

As the evening went on, people got drunker and drunker. At one point, they played a song called "Hip hurra det' min fødselsdag", which translates "Hip hurray it's my birthday". During that song, a well known, and very dangerous, tradition played out. The birthday person gets a tray with 18 shots, which can be with anything from water to absinthe. People then stand in a circle, cheering on while the birthday guy/girl downs the shots as fast as possible. 49 seconds was all it took for this 18 year old girl to down them. 49... That is just insane. What is more insane, is that her friends said "I have seen her do it faster than that". Her sister turned 16 on the same day, that the 18th birthday party was held, so she got a tray of 16 shots, which she downed in.. I think it was about a minute. I swear, those people are on another level when it comes to drinking. But they are great fun to hang out with and party with.

The drive home was long and not much happened.. Well, apart from a ton of rain and four Corvettes blasting by us at full thunder. THAT was awesome!

In two years time, we are gonna go to another 18th birthday. I need to find the perfect gift!

Oh, also.. I went to a job interview today. It went well. I will know more during the week.

Fried Apples

I'm not an apple gal hence Bella the tiny Chi has Not been given any either. Mom gave me a couple of apples saying she fried hers which I've never done. I peeled, chopped, cut a few raw pieces into Bella's food and hollered at her about 15 times to eat. I'm not sure what her problem is but she is not the least bit fond of eating which caused me to yell in a stern voice "EAT" repeatedly daily every time I feed her. Each time she smells each piece then starts to walk away - "EAT" she turns rinses and repeats to walk away. On the 15th yell she succumbs and cleans her dish.

I fried the apples according to Mom's recipe, fixed mine and the Chi's dishes, sat dows together to eat and Bella cleaned her plate before me. Say what??? She then ate two more bowls. I thought they were good but the only time I would ever fry them again is if someone gave me apples and that doesn't happen often nor buy them.

What will be interesting is if I do buy apples to cook for that damn 3 pound life of another species that I've fallen so in love with the last 12 years. No wonder one of my exes used to say if he ever gets to come back it would be one of my little dogs. I keep asking Bella if she is Ben but I get no recogniction yet if it is possible then he got to be a lucky son of a b*tch.

64th Anniversary

Mom & Dad had their 64th anniversary yesterday. Baby sister talked the care center into letting Mom and her offsprings to come see him through the glass. Lots of signs were made saying things like WE LOVE YOU, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, PLEASE EAT, et al.

There was double doors, we could go through one door into a little cubicle about 4X8 which we crowded into with are faces pressed up on the glass doors into the care center where they wheeled my Dad to on the other side. Every single one inside and out had masks on. The most fun was watching Mom say and use her hands to show Dad over and over how much she loved him. At one point we had a countdown and all screamed at once I LOVE YOU to Daddy.

I kind of felt we gave him a flash mob of love. For my MOM it was a joyous joyous day in the midst of this crazy virus. We know the care center has covid cases so we all are quaranteening ourselves for awhile, keeping fingers crossed to.

Twins' 23rd Birthday Party.....Beautiful Bar Harbour, Maine.....

If you are blessed with kids, don't scrimp on the movies, photos, journaling and family trips. Time flies much too fast, and without such tools, memories can fade.

Dad, Not Yet

Dad was already on his Alzheimer's journey when the virus hit. Siblings and I got Mom to the care center daily before the virus but we don't get to see Dad since the facilities got locked down.

Hospice has been called twice on Dad but he is a tough old bird and still with us, confused as he must be. Since we haven't been able to see him, he has fallen out of the bed half a dozen times. No telling how long he lay on the floor before being discoverd. A couple of falls ago he was taken to the hospital for hip replacement surgery. At the care center, a kind nurse would call Mom and let her talk to Dad, that doesn't happen from the hospital.

Dad is already confused and the going back and forth from care center to hospital has to confuse him more. Last week he fell again. The care facility is required to keep Mom notified. So the last fall sent him to the hospital again and we spent the day wondering if he broke the hip that just got replaced. He didn't, only fractured his head.

One would think that the care facility would put up rails on the side of the bed as to keep the patient from falling, however here in FL that is illegal for nursing homes to use rails because it restrains the patients? One would think common sense would over rule a law that is letting a patient repeatedly fall out of bed.

And gues what .... there is NOT a fricking thing we can do with the virus going on. Oh and Dad tested positive for Covid but no symptoms....so far so he has to quarentine but where, the hospital can't keep him and he can't go back to the care center testing positive.
