Myristica fragrans

Nutmeg and mace. Pala in Indonesia.
Once these trees only grew on the Banda Islands in the Moluccas.
The dutch waged bloody wars for control of this spice and the Banda Islands, even exterminating the native population.
The profit range was about 600 times, when there was rumour in Europe that nutmeg would be the only remedy against the black death.
Nowadays Indonesia is still a main producer and a good nut costs about 1,40 Euro here.
No idea what the peasants get or what the price in Indo shops.

Rice Pudding...

With a few cold fronts into Florida this winter, I've been thinking about cooking 'stuff' as it reminds me of a time when my parents were alive and the kitchen was always warm from a gas stove. My dad liked to grill and stove top. my mother was the boiler and baker of the family.
For some (possibly) unknown reason, I thought of rice pudding. Maybe it was the flan custard from a party not long ago. We buy rice in 25 pound bags so there's never a shortage of rice... thinking that I could get a recipe wrong and have to drop the entire disaster into the dumpster!
I made pancakes on Sunday morning... the kind where you only need to add water. Well, I added 2 eggs and used low fat milk in place of the water. Of course it tasted better that way.
Out of milk from Sunday, I went shopping tonight and grabbed the low fat milk again... maybe next time it will be whole milk so I can make some rice pudding.

If I should add raisins or not is open for debate.

A mystery....scary!

A few days ago I buy a loaf of bread. I think this has been the first loaf of bread I bought in a few months. laugh Okay, that has nothing to do with the story. But, all of my life I have been buying bread. After buying a loaf of bread and having it for a week, I would always make sure to check it for any mold. Done this for all my life. Sometimes I would get lucky and get another sandwich or two out of it. Other times, not so lucky...tossed it.

Back to this recent loaf of bread. It was probably 12/3 when I bought it and I always love the freshest bread and check for the sell by date making sure I buy the freshest one. Well, this loaf of bread, I didn't have to do that. I grabbed the first loaf and seen the date....it was a no-brainer. It said, sell by 1/17. wow

I think I found magic bread. rolling on the floor laughing

Cheese baked Fried rice

I just get tired of chinese dishes,so I steamed some deer meat, and put inside some herbs. Well, I used a pressure cooker, and I steamed rice inside also, which makes the lower layer and deer meat with soup on the upper layer. When I opened the pressure cooker, I found the deer meat soup sank to the rice. So I chopped some meat and some garlic, and spring oinion, and an egg. Then I stired fried the rice with all the spices in and the egg. The I put this fried rice in a baking utensil. And I added some cheese on top, baking 15minutes. The taste is great!

Wipe that mole off your face...

Sometimes it's not so easy considering the same word has different meanings.

If a guy has a birth defect (as in a dark round often raised mark on his skin) it's called a mole. The same defect on a woman is called a beauty mark.
Gotta love those dual standards. laugh
You cannot wipe those moles off your face and need to see a dermatologist for professional treatment.

Another mole is a rodent sized mammal with sharp paws that burrows underground. They leave a small opening with dirt around it when they come to the surface...
Don't consider touching any of those moles... you could get scratched in the process.

A third mole is the traditional Mexican sauce that often contains fruit, chili pepper, nuts, black pepper, onion, cinnamon, cumin and chocolate.

So get some mole sauce and pour it over your tacos, burritos or enchiladas.

When you're done, you can wipe this mole off your face!
