Women have been known to fall on their knees, and propose marriage, after tasting some of my dishes. From the simple, to the annoyingly French, what a scene. But I usually am careful in just which ladies I decide to share my precious bodily pure essence with. Aa.
Again while mowing down meadows yesterday my eyes noticed something ripening. The black raspberries were mostly gone by now of course. But plants that bore nothing of interest in mid June now attracted me with a splash of red. Could it be?
Yes, Red Raspberries. I resolved to pick some today, but alas although warm, it rained most of the day. Finally at 7:30PM it stopped raining and with only an hour and half of sunlight left I grabbed my coffee can and went picking.
I beat the deer this time as many plants still have immature berries. However, I could hear the deer walking around me and snorting hust out of sight nearby. Also heard were the clucks of a Tom turkey herding his flock nearby.
Sadly it began to rain again almost as soon as I started picking, so I retreated to the house with what I got.
Spice for my Cheerios. Addendum for my protein shakes.
Psst, don't tell Tomato Girl. She likes these more than she does tomatoes.
On Sunday after worship food awaits me at First Unitarian Universalist Church, on Tuesday and Thursdays at LifePittsburgh and at a Subway when I have "sufficient funding" !
Nutmeg and mace. Pala in Indonesia.
Once these trees only grew on the Banda Islands in the Moluccas.
The dutch waged bloody wars for control of this spice and the Banda Islands, even exterminating the native population.
The profit range was about 600 times, when there was rumour in Europe that nutmeg would be the only remedy against the black death.
Nowadays Indonesia is still a main producer and a good nut costs about 1,40 Euro here.
No idea what the peasants get or what the price in Indo shops.

I've given up beef years ago gave up pork more recently, my friend who works selling fish says only eat the big fish) once a month. I was married to a woman from Lithuania, we lived in the US, she taught me more than I could of imagined about food. Now, I eat all organic foods (when possible), no GMO, (genetically modified organism). I realize in Europe that you got your sh#@ together. You don't allow GMO and pesticides doesn't seem to be as needed there as they are here. I never knew how fulfilling and healthy nuts are, I now buy 20 pounds of organic almonds at a time. I bake my own bread....have you seen all the ingredients in bread?? I use organic flour from Italy, yeast, raisins, sunflower seeds, a little salt and water and some honey....that's it.....ever look at the ingredients for bread must be over 50 and 40 of the words I can't even pronounce....
We're slowly being poisoned by what we eat......we need to take back control.........
Does it cost more? Absolutely. But to have the quality of life in the long run is worth it's weight in gold.....my luck I'll get hit by a bus.

I came across some YouTube videos of noodles made by hand. Two different styles were featured in the same video. One is a Chinese man who pulls them by hand and the other a Japanese man who slices them with a knife.
For years, I grew up on Italian style spaghetti noodles that I knew were 'extruded' through machine with round holes. The fresh noodles were then hung to dry.
Noodles I buy from the Asian market also appear to be made by machine. They take flat sheets of dough and pass them through a conveyor with a series of knives that slice the dough into uniform strips.
As seen in the video, the Chinese guy not only makes an amazing display of his artistry, he has a flare about the showmanship. Watching the performance was very entertaining.
Very impressive... Peter Song:
