A World of More Than Just Words...

Legendary Interior Designer Billy Baldwin once declared, " Books are the best decoration." I couldn't agree more but I still like paintings and other art works also.
Set on a shelf or lying open on a table, books do become decorative elements in most any room, as vital to the overall scheme as any piece of furniture or most hand carved arts and crafts . I cannot imagine any home without them.
"He that loveth a book will never want a faithful friend," proclaimed the 17th century British scholar, Issac Barrow.
More than three centuries later, his words still resonate with book lovers everywhere. "Faithful friends" have habit of turning on you; not so with books is my conclusion.
Why do these ubiquitous objects continue to inspire such adoration and devotion? One reason ia that cherished volumes are like favourite family photographs: Each time you look at them, you are transported back to joyful times. Perhaps you remember the day in a grammar school when a literary classic you've now read many times over was first placed on your desk. Holding a 'dog-eared' book in your hands may conjure up recollections of a carefree college vacation relaxing at a side-walk cafe somewhere in Europe, while the sight of a glossy museum catalogue can trigger the same awestruck feeling you experienced the first time you saw in person the work of an artist you greatly admire; you may even picture yourself among the shelves of a dusty old bookshop on a small side street in which you discovered a long out of print tome after years of searching.
Besides providing a window on the past, books show the world who we are today. A collection of books gathered over a lifetime reflects the owner's pursuits, pastimes and passions. No matter what the category, be it antique weapons, French cuisine, Chinese snuff boxes,or 18th century furniture, a book on the subject has been published somewhere in the world. This may explain the tendency of bibliophiles to steal a glimpse at the bookcases in a new acquaintance's home. If the topics they find there are subjects in which they have little interest, conversation will quickly drift in other directions, but should those shelves harbour familiar titles, especially obscure ones, a lively discussion will ensue, and, quite likely, friendship will blossom.
Books can also be appreciated on a purely aesthetic level. Consider the leather bindings on antiquarian books...florid, gold-leaf designs still visible after centuries of use, and colours deepened by the handling of successive owners. Beautiful endpapers in bold marbleized patterns, graceful botanical prints in strong stripes create a sense of anticipation when a front cover is opened and a sense of closure when the last line has been read.
Dust jackets brittle with age showcase the fonts, colour schemes, and graphic design motifs popular at the time they were first printed. Even the pages have a distance look about them, whether gilded or ragged or even dog-eared. From small press editions of erotica or military instructions on flintlocks to pulp fiction novels turned out in the various centuries, books possess visual and tactile qualities that CD-ROMS and Internet databases can never, ever replicate. Page after page of Online databases simply do not inspire reading.

GRUMP TIME - Just because you can...

Remember the days when you used to sit in a friend’s car on a wet Sunday afternoon, waving a cheap transistor radio around, poking other passengers in the eye with the aerial as you tried to hunt down the best signal so you can all listen to ‘the game’?

What about more recently, when you'd struggle with those tiny televisions, again, playing rotating and contorting yourself in order to see the movie you'd been banned from watching - often in bed, under the covers and long after you’re supposed to be asleep?

Technology is meant to be progressive, yet you're still watching a (possibly illegally) downloaded copy of a blockbuster movie, designed to be watched on a wall the size of the Hoover Dam, on a smartphone with a screen the size of a Post-It note.

There are apps for so many things - too many things in my view - which we get wrapped up in what we can do with our device:

• I can use it instead of my spirit level
• I can use it instead of my egg timer
• I can calculate the azimuth of this planet, the albedo of that star whilst rating the cuteness of people’s kittens on a scale of 1 to 10
• I can turn it into a fake Star Trek Tricorder, Doctor Who’s Sonic Screwdriver or hide my porn... erm - sensitive business documents behind a fake calculator app, even though nobody actually has access to my tablet!

So why do we (hypothetically, in my case (ehem)) do it?

Just because we can…!

wth

f*cked up, not even seeing straight...felt compelled to right this. A buddy of mine invtited me out tonight....yes...berta. lol. After many countless beers and shots and to-killa...which I don't like. But a young lady taught me how take them correctly .Only 21, and she knew how take Patrone correctly....writhing this after at least 6 shots and pickle juices...not to mention countless beers...I can hardly see straight.

Talking this absolutely gorgeous lady...the night....we ended by saying...F*uck you...not every guy is trying to take advantage of you. No doubt, she was a beauty...and she did know it.

I knew it tooo....and she knew I knew I knew it too.

When is it....does it women knew it does she know it that a man know it he is reallly interested in her story?

Needless to say, the ending was not pretty.

.lol

Am I am even making sense. ....typing this with one eye open. lol

SA’s Namaqua paradise

Photo's etc. don't do justice to this natural wonder...

For the people living in this arid country this is a 'repeated miracle' that unfolds each year.

Takes a special breed of person to live and thrive in the Namaqualand and Kalahari.

It's mid night in the Yucatan

Well I see that I am alone again.

It's just a couple of minutes past 12 here, and
everybody has gone away.

No banter.

My dog has wandered off to his bed.

The new puppy is sleeping quietly in her box.

The stars are like pinpricks in a black velvet sky.

The moon has not come up yet.

It's blacker than a coal miner's face out side.

I finished all of my chores today.

Tomorrow is Saturday.......yay

But here, everyday runs into the next day.

As the sun comes up, the parrots will arrive to eat my
bananas and the shepherd will drive his flock up my
driveway to eat the new grasses. The local trades
people will peddle past my castle on their bicycles to
do their daily work. Life goes on.

I will have my coffee, feed critters, shower and think
about saving a world that doesn't know that it teeters
on the brink of disaster.

Another day in paradise.

Single lady is attractive!

Last night I backed home from work quite late. I was so tired so I didn't have dinner at all and went straight to my bed. I turned on my radio to listen news, the last sentence before I felt as sleep that I remember was: 'lady single is always so attractive!'... This morning woke up, in the mood of missing my crocodile endlessly. I told myself: 'Mimi, DO NOT sad! You are lonely but you are ATTRACTIVE!' :)

I wish all the attractive ladies on this site and in the world a happy Tuesday!
I wish all the attractive gentlemen on this site and in this world a happy Tuesday too!

And here is a photo of this attractive lady yesterday at work for my fan :)

Another puppy blog

Well, the new puppy is sleeping on a full tummy.

But that's not the end of this story.

It couldn't be, could it? Not when Vikings are around.

We are well renowned for being thorough.

I had to go back to where I found the pup to make sure
it was the only one.

Surprise, surprise.

I found 2 more!! One dead and one more living.

I looked down the road and saw one of my neighbors kids
out playing and waved to them to come see what I found.

The six year old grabbed up that puppy like it was Christmas
and the 12 year old very respectfully asked if they could
keep it.

I made them promise to treat it well and sent the 4 boys with
new puppy home to face the music.

They were whistling, laughing and dancing all the way out of
sight.

I think that I paid off another sin today......

My karma's starting to look pretty good
