How can you appreciate?

How can you appreciate the opposite sex if you have had sex with countless numerous people?

Sex loses its meaning?
Marriages will not last?
Does it lead to more extreme things?
What then has meaning?

My new car gives me anticipation to get in and drive it...but after 5 years, I don't have that same anticipation. dunno

Dosh - you know - collecting the readies

I want to be coining it, rolling in filthy lucre, getting more bang out of every buck, turning a pretty penny, minting it, saving for a rainy day, making moolah, sitting pretty.

Considered the conventional way - working 40 hours a week for 40 years to retire on 40 percent of my income. Hmm. uh oh

One guy I knew back in the horse days has a funny old factory making lightweight wooden crates for shipping fruit and vegetables. He has a sideline selling by-product - shavings - to the pet industry - hamster bedding, mainly. Millions. He works hard, mind.

I like bizarre ideas. I looked up a few that made millions
1. ashleymadison.com - a website for married people to have affairs
2. Pooperscooper.com - scooping up dog poo.
3. Superjam - a teenager selling his gran’s jam from a Scottish kitchen
4. Specs for dogs
5. Plastic wishbones, so everyone gets a wish at Christmas
6. Wuvit - microwaveable pillows
7. Selling pixels on a webpage
8. The guy who created a company that provides excuse letters to miss work
9. Lasermonks.com - the monks selling refilled printer cartridges
10. WhateverLife - a teenage drop-out selling MySpace layouts

I repeat - these all made millions.

So I need an idea which is simple, unique, feasible, do-able, will catch public fancy, and let me sit back after I scoop in enough to keep me comfortable for the foreseeable.

Got one for me?

how some things work

Just got off the phone with a friend of mine. He was talking to me about how some of corporate America works. He told me to Google about how only 10 families own the majority of trademarks we buy. I Googled it and it said that 10 mega companies own much of what we will find in our local supermarkets.

He was also telling me how there was a business that was purchased. The buyer was well connected with the local government. What ended up happening was that the city wanted to put a turn lane in, right in front of his business, and purchased a small 10 foot wide chunk of land for the same price the whole business was purchased for.

He also mentioned how companies will file bankruptcy, screwing the stock holders, and employees...only to sell the company to one of their sister companies. He explained how there was this big operation going on under one company name and the next time he visited it, it was doing business under a completely different name. He asked how that was possible, the guy told them...well...they are us and we are them....and started laughing about it.

Then he mentioned there are some companies that will get tax breaks if they set their companies up in certain areas, and then resell it to a sister company to reap the tax benefits continuously.

The person I was speaking to asked me to keep the names of these companies private.

But...many people do not realize how things are working behind the scenes he says.

Manchester.

With all the cold weather and such, wouldn't it be nice if the Government gave all the pregnant women in Manchester an extra pack of fags with their rations?

Therefore I am

The original* is philosophical not specific, I know that, borrowing the words not the thoughts for this blog.

If I think I am happy, I am surely happy? I think.

but ....

If I think I am sane, am I sane?

They do say only the mad think they are sane. uh oh Split the difference. I’ll accept interestingly eccentric, albeit financially challenged. grin

If I think I am the most drop-dead gorgeous creature on CS, well, I am free to think that, but what others think does have to play a part. laugh

So how much does what others think I am, affect what I am? If I value someone’s opinion, and suddenly find out they think I am an idiot, does their opinion still have value? confused

My builders thought I was rich and gullible, and to be fleeced of every possible cent. very mad My daughter thinks I am going through a midlife crisis, starting with the books I’ve written, especially the Clarissa ones, now with moving abroad, and wishes I would settle down and take up crochet. Talking of Clarissa, a younger friend of mine now thinks I am deliberately torturing him by refusing to become his domme until he is submissive enough. Dyeing my hair green and getting purple and blue slashes tattooed on my face, well, I didn't, but so far as I can see no-one reads long paragraphs. I have a friend who thinks I am in denial about being old and need to start with the blue rinses already. Actually, more than one. uh oh

I think they’re all wrong.

(There are some who see me the way I want to see myself - even some who see me as braver, cleverer, more talented, more capable than I am. hug There are the special few who, whatever they think, support and help me on my way.)

I think I’m right, therefore I am.

*Cogito ergo sum is a Latin philosophical proposition by René Descartes usually translated into English as "I think, therefore I am".

On The Farm,

I didn't even know what a blog was until about 20 or so minutes ago, so this is more likely than not my first and last blog. I never said I hadn't ever read any before, they seem to have been around even when I was a kid, in a verbal format, the folks called it gossiping. At any rate I read that it can also serve as writing practice, a diary, or
weblog, or a daily journal of sorts. I'll use it here briefly as a platform to improve my grammatical skills. I was raised in a small Southeastern Texas County, my father raised hogs primarily, although there were also poultry,
several goat's, a milk cow, and a couple of rather old horse's. An only child I spent much time alone, reading, hiking about in the many acres of those piney woods.I hunted, fished, and walked those woods until they were like a second home. My closest playmates lived nearly two miles away, and there was no phones, electricity, gas, or running water, unless you counted Roberson Creek, which wound it's way through the pines about a mile and a half from our place. It was a hard life, winters especially, but I wouldn't change a thing. Since I've carefully avoided politics, religion, sex, race, relationships, or any subject inviting conjecture, or conflict I'd like the reader if knowledgeable in the area to comment on my grammatical errors so I can continue to work on the mistakes. Thank you.

That was 2017 - done and dusted. Most hectic year EVER.

I started 2017 employed and living in Scotland but knowing that the Scottish offices of my company were closing and we were being made redundant in April. I'd been offered a transfer to the English offices but wasn't at all sure I wanted to move back to England. So I went on holiday in February to Spain to think about it, to cheer up, to get some winter sunshine ...

Result - I fell in love with a house long on potential and decided to buy it, despite not speaking Spanish, or knowing anything about refurbishing large dilapidated 100-year-old rambling Spanish townhouses. Returned, put my house on the market, did a TEFL course and started teaching English online and found I loved teaching (phew). Income sorted, at least in theory. Sold the house in Scotland after 2 false starts, packed up and bought a super-cheap camper (never been a camping enthusiast) to get myself and my pets to Spain.

Problem - when it came to the crunch, because of the falling pound I could no longer afford the house in Spain, but went anyway because what else could I do? I'd sold up, turned down the English transfer, burned my Scottish boats. Plus I wanted to get over in time for a bloggers meet in September with a particular special visitor from Malaysia I had wanted to meet for a couple of years hug And wintering in a campervan in Spain would be warmer than Scotland (that turned out to be a very good decision, Scotland is having a stoater of a winter, brrrr)

Made the meet with barely a day in hand, then started some serious house-hunting (there have been blogs laugh ) which ended when the house I had originally wanted dropped its price into my price range and wintering in the van was no longer required - luckily, since it is colder than usual here too, days around 16 to 18 C degrees, nights occasionally dropping as low as 8 degrees. The van was a wonderful stopgap but 8 weeks of living in it was an elegant sufficiency.

Since moving in, I have been bossed mercilessly by #1 CS buddy (building expert of note) into stripping old walls of dead paint and plaster, stripping down old wooden beams, doors and windows, treating walls then painting them, and even carrying 25 kg bags of building materials, albeit not very far or very fast. With his priceless help my shabby elefante blanco has become a stripped carcass, slowly growing room by room into a home and, hopefully, a self-funding future.

Writing has ground to almost a complete halt, and teaching has been on hold while the extremely noisy Spanish builders are in situ. My hands are calloused, I am semi-permanently paint-freckled, my hair stands on end 90% of the time, and my biceps are becoming alarming. As we are now working on the upstairs levels, my leg muscles are becoming steel springs. As you can imagine, after reading that, #1 CS buddy is not a romantic entanglement laugh My Spanish-speaking CS buddies have also been worth their weight in gold.

I’m not quoting any names - against blog rules, for one thing. They can identify themselves, if they see this blog. However, this whole change in my life is pretty much a direct result of joining CS a few years ago and being lucky enough to make some quality quirky friends here. Funny how life works out.

wine cheers hug

It has been an interesting year. 2018 promises to be even more interesting. I use that word deliberately - I’m told there is a Chinese curse, “may you live in interesting times”

Feliz año nuevo to all and may 2018 bring you happiness in the things that really matter.

I'm leaving comments open, would be great if you talked about your 2017 if you do comment conversing or that this will spark other blogs about the year gone.

How's Your 2018 Started Off?

Mine started with my best friend and my sister deciding they like each other and wanting to date, I am now more uncomfortable than I have been in a long time because I'm probably going to lose both of them.
