The Trump administration on Monday proposed rolling back a 2015 rule that bans aggressive predator control tactics
in national preserves in Alaska, including shooting bear cubs and wolf pups in their dens, a move
immediately blasted by environmental groups.
The proposal, slated to be published Tuesday in the Federal Register, would amend the National Park Service’s current regulations
to again allow for controversial sport hunting and trapping techniques on roughly 20 million acres of federal lands in Alaska.
The park service, part of the Department of the Interior, said lifting the prohibitions would increase hunting opportunities
on national preserve land, as Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke called for in a pair of secretarial orders last year.
The proposed rule would allow hunters to lure brown and black bears with bait, hunt black bears and their cubs using artificial lights,
shoot bear cubs and wolf and coyote pups in their dens, and use dogs to hunt black bears.
It would also allow hunters to shoot swimming caribou from motorboats.

“I’m outraged that [President Donald] Trump and his trophy-hunting cronies are promoting the senseless slaughter
of Alaska’s most iconic wildlife,” said Collette Adkins, a lawyer and biologist at the Center for Biological Diversity.
“Cruel and harmful hunting methods like killing bear cubs and their mothers near dens have no place on our national preserves.”
Defenders of Wildlife said the 2015 park service rule prevented “extreme methods of killing predators.”
“The Trump administration has somehow reached a new low in protecting wildlife,” said Jamie Rappaport Clark,
the nonprofit’s president and CEO. “Allowing the killing of bear cubs and wolf pups in their dens is barbaric and inhumane.
The proposed regulations cast aside the very purpose of national parks to protect wildlife and wild places.”
The park service said in an emailed statement the proposed rule would “establish consistency” with state regulations.
“The conservation of wildlife and habitat for future generations is a goal we share with Alaska,” agency regional director Bert Frost said.
A 60-day public comment period begins Tuesday.

Just In Time
It would appear that I moved just in time from that granny flat in my sister’s backyard. On Friday, while they were at work, they became the victims of a burglary for the second time in just over a year.
While they are well insured, I did not bother with insurance because I did not plan to live there as long as I did. Mind you, they may not have bothered with the granny flat.
The thieves forced the security gate and the front door with a crowbar, gained access to the garage via the kitchen, pulled their vehicle (a white LDV) into the garage, closed the door, and ransacked the house. They must have spent several hours in the house. It is possible that they made two trips to get the stuff away. They took the TV (not the decoder), laptop, kitchen appliances, a toolbox, and even the new (empty) safe that I promised to build into the wall this weekend.
They systematically emptied the contents of drawers, cupboards, wardrobes, fridges and freezers into bags (left some behind after they left) leaving not even a nail clipper behind. Even open jars with half the contents being used, were taken.
The police call them the Crowbar gang. Apparently, two men and two women raid the houses while another man and woman patrol outside in a white Toyota. They have been operating for about two years. Now, if the police know so much about them, why can’t they be apprehended?
But the strangest of all is that nobody saw a thing and there is no garden wall to limit the sight. Another strange thing is that the thieves did not take quite everything. The pork, bacon, and ham remained untouched.

My sister says she would have been less unhappy if they took the freezers as well so she could have claimed two new freezers. My brother-in-law says they were very mean to take his peanut butter. I hope they are still as light-hearted when the insurance settles their claim.
And for some reason my sister lost her dislike for burglar alarms. They’re having one installed next week. A bit late, I should think.

ISIS Warns Second 9/11 Is Coming, Says America's Geographical Location Won't Save Country From 'Army of Jihad'

Terror group ISIS has released an 11-minute long video where it warns the United States of another 9/11-style attack. The militants said that America's geographical location won't bring it the safety it perceives to have, and warned that an "army of Jihad" is coming.
The Independent noted that the video, titled "We Will Burn America," is not the first of its kind – in January, the group warned to beheaded President Barack Obama and turn America into a Muslim province.
ISIS has captured significant territory in Iraq and Syria and has looked to expand its Islamic caliphate across the region. The U.S. and a broad coalition of allies, including a number of Arab states, have hit back with air strikes against terror targets.
The latest video warns that America wrongly believes it is safe because of its geographical location.
"Thus you see it invades the Muslim lands, and it thinks that the army of the Jihad won't reach in their lands," the message added.
"But the dream of the American to have safety became a mirage. Today there is no safety for any American on the globe.
It continued: "But today, it's time for payback. By the grace of Allah, today the mujahideen are much more stronger and they have more resources. Thus they are able to burn United States again."
The jihadists remind America of the several behedings they have carried out of U.S. citizens, including the death of journalist James Foley.
The video also boasts of other Islamic extremist attacks on the West, including the shootings in Paris in January carried out by French-born gunman Amedy Coulibaly, and Canadian Michael Zehaf-Bibeau's 2014 attack on the Canadian Parliament.
Human rights groups and news reporters have documented the extensive abuses carried out by ISIS on a daily basis. While men have been routinely beheaded in mass slaughters often recorded on video, women and children have been enslaved, beaten and raped.
Earlier this week, an aid worker in Iraq revealed the story of a nine-year-old Yazidi girl who had been raped by at least 10 militants, resulting in a pregnancy.
"This girl is so young she could die if she delivers a baby," said Canadian-based aid worker Yousif Daoud.
"Even a caesarian section is dangerous. The abuse she has suffered left her mentally and physically traumatized."
ISIS has also targeted religious minorities, especially Christians, in its ongoing attacks.
In February, the terror group released a video titled "A Message Signed with Blood to the Nation of the Cross," in which it showed the beheadings of 21 Coptic Christians that had been kidnapped in Libya.
The jihadists have also kidnapped over 250 Assyrian Christians, and are asking for $30 million for their release.

Iam both happy and sad. Happy that the missing Air Asia is found and sad since no survivor is found. But I'm just curious why the missing Malaysian plane with all the highly developed countries merging their efforts and resources couldn't find a trace of it till now? May the new yr give a glint of hop to its fate!

As Donald Trump returns to Georgia later this month, criminal investigators in the state have been quietly conducting interviews, collecting documents and working to build a line of communication with congressional investigators as they aim to build a case against the former President for his alleged attempts to overturn the state's 2020 election results.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis kicked off her investigation with a splash earlier this year, when she fired off a round of letters to Georgia officials asking them to preserve documents related to Trump just a month after she took office.
Since then, her investigation into Trump's efforts to upend Georgia's 2020 presidential election results has been more discreet as she juggles the early stages of the Trump probe with an avalanche of backlogged cases and rising violence in the Atlanta area.
"What I can tell you is that the Trump investigation is ongoing. As a district attorney, I do not have the right to look the other way on any crime that may have happened in my jurisdiction," Willis told reporters this week. "We have a team of lawyers that is dedicated to that, but my No. 1 priority is to make sure that we keep violent offenders off the street."
Investigators are plowing ahead as Trump continues to weigh his political future and wade into Peach State politics with a Georgia rally set for late September.
Trump -- still burned by his 2020 defeat and feeling betrayed by local officials who refused to help him overturn the 2020 election results -- has rolled out a number of endorsements in Georgia.
Among them: Rep. Jody Hice, who is trying to unseat Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, and state Sen. Burt Jones, who is running for the open lieutenant governor seat. Both Raffensperger and outgoing Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan stood up to Trump's attempts to overturn the election. Both of Trump's picks to replace them are Republicans who have embraced Trump's false claims of election fraud.
While the Fulton County investigation still appears to be in its early stages, investigators so far have obtained documents from the Georgia Secretary of State's office and interviewed a handful of its staff, spoken to other Georgia election officials about how elections are conducted and initiated conversations with congressional committees that could obtain information relevant to the Georgia probe, according to people familiar with the investigation.
The Daily Beast reported the four names first.
If Willis is able to gain access to information from congressional committees, it could provide a mountain of documents relevant to her investigation and possibly help her avoid lengthy court fights if she were to seek similar information on her own.
Willis's probe spans not only the former President's activities, but also a call between Sen. Lindsey Graham and Raffensperger, Rudy Giuliani's false allegations of election fraud before Georgia legislators and the surprise departure of Byung "BJay" Pak from his role as US attorney for the Northern District of Georgia.
A key area of focus has been the Georgia Secretary of State's office, after Trump called officials there following the 2020 election and pressed them to help to investigate his allegations of fraud in the hopes of overturning results showing Joe Biden won the state in November.

Not only roads that flooded , but many houses and apartments , shop and market areas , and even Railroads or Railstations are under water as well...
Not only that... In fear of electrification , electric supply has been disconnected to many areas of the city for long time...
The warning was there before... Since the beginning of this week , there was red , orange and yellow alerts issued by weather department for several parts of West Bengal including Kolkata...
It's midway of Monsoon season going on here... And added to that there is a very deep low pressure formed upon Bay Of Bengal...
Which combo results into heavy to severely heavy rainfall almost all week long...
And the worst part was yesterday , from morning to whole night , almost for 24 hours continuous severe rainfall ...
But the water drainage system and pumping stations of corporations and municipality should be prepared for that , as the alert was issued long before..

Friday's Cat...
On my way downstairs this morning, I found a cat on the landing. This was new as I don't recall any cats around this building. Acknowledging the cat was there, I stopped and watched him as he looked at me. I continued down the stairs and (to my surprise) the cat didn't run away.
I did some errands and the cat was in the same place when I returned.
Okay, something's up.
Why here?
Maybe someone abandoned this animal as he's not afraid of me.
Flashback to when I was 12 years old and we had a cat named Tiki with the same markings... I get it, this must be a descendant of Tiki!!
So, I poured a small bowl of milk and Tiki2 (notice I've already named this cat I've known for less than 2 hours) started drinking the milk. I headed off to work and Tiki2 was at the bottom of the stairs when I returned after dark.
My wife suggested we feed the cat and I said if we do, he'll never go away and 3 minutes later I had a small bowl of Spanish style ground beef warmed in the microwave oven. By then Tiki2 was in the bushes possibly looking for food. Two seconds later the beef was on Tiki2's dinner menu!
Wanting to be a part of the virtual adoption, my wife called down to me saying the cat needed some rice. "Cat's don't eat rice", said I, but she had a scoop of rice in her hand and added it to the partly consumed bowl of beef. The cat stopped eating and walked away. Insisting cats eat rice, I agreed... maybe they do, but this isn't a Chinese Cat!
Anyway a few neighbors coming and going all noticed the cat today and none of know where the cat came from or where the cat belongs. One woman tried to reach animal services to pick up the animal and take him to a place for care and adoption but she was turned down as Covid has that department only handling emergencies.
So for now, Tiki2 has food and can seek shelter under the stairs when it rains.
I did some errands and the cat was in the same place when I returned.
Okay, something's up.
Why here?
Maybe someone abandoned this animal as he's not afraid of me.
Flashback to when I was 12 years old and we had a cat named Tiki with the same markings... I get it, this must be a descendant of Tiki!!

Three years after it began its criminal investigation of Donald Trump’s Trump Organization and its executives, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is reportedly expected to charge the ex-president’s company and its chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg, with tax-related crimes on Thursday, according The Wall Street Journal. Obviously this marks a major escalation of the probe, and Trump will presumably respond to the news by lashing out like a man increasingly concerned that prison may be in his future.
According to the Journal, Weisselberg and the company are expected to be hit with charges related to allegedly avoiding paying taxes on fringe benefits. For months Cyrus Vance Jr.’s office has been investigating whether the perks the CFO (and other employees) was awarded, including cars, corporate apartments, and private school tuition, were a way of evading money owed to the IRS. In addition to reportedly obtaining Weisselberg’s personal tax returns, the D.A.’s office scored a trove of financial documents from his ex-daughter-in-law, Jennifer Weisselberg, whose former husband, Barry Weisselberg, is also a longtime employee of the company. (In his divorce deposition Barry was unable to answer a number of questions about his taxes, and when asked if taxes had been paid on the Trump Organization–owned apartment where his family previously lived, he said he didn’t know. Pressed to explain discrepancies between what he said he earned and what he actually reported on tax forms, he responded: “I’m not an accountant. I know what I make. I’m not too sure of certain things.”)
While Weisselberg has thus far refused to cooperate with the investigation, being personally charged, and contemplating the prospect of prison time, could obviously change his decision re: testifying against Trump—and if it were to, it would undoubtedly be a very, very bad turn of events for the 45th president. Weisselberg has described himself as the “eyes and ears“ of the company from a financial standpoint, and he could presumably connect any number of dots about potential crimes committed by Trump.
As Weisselberg’s ex-daughter-in-law told Air Mail in April, “Trump doesn’t care about Allen, but Allen knows every bad thing he ever did.”
