THE OLDER PEOPLE GROW THE MORE FEARFUL THEY BECOME

I just noticed that, the more people grow old, the more fearful they become, but the contrary is true, younger people are more open and less fearful!

I know most people are either fearful of others, or open to others! One old woman told me in 2001, when her granddaughter my ex took me to her house in Paris that,
" I SHOULD LIKE TO LOVE YOU AND DISLIKE TO HATE YOU BUT YOU'RE WELCOME" for dating her granddaughter.

Man Haters.

There was a time when we saw a lot of blogs running men down. For some reason or another, we don’t see them that often lately but when you read some of the comments on the blogs, man haters are still alive and well and thriving in Blogland. Which is peculiar; after all, this is a dating site.help

The strange part of it is that the blogs where these anti-male comments appear are seldom about men, so the hate must be very close to the surface. And it is not just random members; it is mostly the same faces. Another odd thing is that most such comments are not really insulting men; they rather carry an undertone of dislike, bitterness, and distrust towards men although some of them are downright offending if not slanderous.confused

I said it a few times before that writing reveals our souls but when we write a blog, we have the time to sanitize it somewhat though the undertones are subconscious and can never be hidden. Comments on the other hand, are more impulsive and we have less time to think about it. The true self shows much clearer in a comment.innocent

Yes, I know we see the same thing done by men from time to time but not even nearly as often as what the ladies can manage it. Of course being a male, I may not notice it as easy.grin

It would seem (to me) that men forgive and forget easier than women do; or do we just hide our feelings deeper?dunno

Ego

Are we that caught up in our own need to be right that we just cannot be humble anymore?...Does your need to nourish your ego make you intolerable to others?...bruised ego aside...it is truly a great attribute to be humble...whether it be to allow/listen to others' opinions or to admit fault and/or bad behaviour...

Differences of Opinions...

People all have their own thoughts about everything...from Right to Wrong....From blatantly Judgmental to all the other stuff we read on the blogs....Some men like to "attack and insult" women if they say something against their beliefs or what they have an opinion about...Some get angry and argue...and argue and argue...What do you do when someone has a different opinion than you????

The role of legal professionals in legal cases?

Dear Friends

I know opinions could vary from country to country...but what is the ethical role of legal professionals in legal proceedings in your opinion and experience?

My question is thus, what are the legal responsibilities of our legal professionals in settling cases as soon as possible. Or is the only responsibility to present what was said and available at the time...till next time? Are there any Governing Bodies governing not only the legal correctness of proceedings, but also the efficiency of the Process?

Any comments or experiences or even input?

Your input and thoughts are appreciated.

Very warm SA greetings

The Case of Brian Williams

As most people may have heard, Brian Williams was suspended today from NBC News for a period of 6 months without pay. In all practicality, he probably will not return and if he does, his ability as a newsman will certainly be grossly affected. After all, how would he ever again be able to ask the tough question to any politician or suspected liar without having his own past called into question?

From recent accounts it appears that Brian fell into that old trap of trying to make his reporting of the news more and more sensational. From imagined gun fire at his helicopter to supposedly being confronted by armed gangs during the Katrina Hurricane, he always seem to interject a bit too personal involvement into his accounts; and now it has caught up with him. While his punishment might seem harsh, it is hardly the case when so many Americans tune into the news to get the straight and honest accounting of the days events.

Sadly, the news was usually are more subdued and perhaps a little bit boring part of the television experience and it began to change once advertisers were allowed to underwrite the cost of news programs. More and more they wanted “their piece” of the television audience and were more than willing to bend the rules to get it. Over time they have transformed the news from being the authoritative source of information to a constant stream of editorialized comments and entertaining antidotes with not a lot of straight forward news and information. As Dan Rather experienced, the haste to get the story to air and a sure fire recipe for disaster and now, another anchor has fallen hard.

When Edward R. Morrow started the CBS news cast, truth and accuracy were the prime ingredients and there was absolutely no acceptable substitute. He successfully resisted attempts to add advertising in order to make the news cost effective and when CBS tried to kill the news, they got bush wacked by millions of Americans that simply would not tolerate anyone messing with “their news”. But, sadly, as with so many other things, we took our eye off the ball and let the money men get involved and screw up a good thing.

Equally unfortunate are the number of shows that are geared more toward entertainment and just happen to toss in a few bits of news. The Daily Show is one of these and while they have a tremendous following, it is shocking how many of these viewers take the show quite literally, failing to understand the gravity of the show. One could only wonder how they would handled the nightly news during the height of the Vietnam war were we saw actual combat footage every evening. Would the American people have reacted the same? Would there have been the level of protests when it was packaged more as entertainment than reality? Mind you, I’m not against entertainment for the sake of entertainment, but there are many very serious issues that affect the American people and that cannot stand to be minimized or trivialized for the sake of the advertisers. People need the truth and the news was one of the few remaining institutions that supplied it; or I should say used to supply it.

Hopefully the sad fall from grace that Brian Williams is living will serve as a reminder to every journalist of how important and how sacred the trust of the American people holds them to. We can only hope we will continue to hold these icons of freedom of speech & the press to their high standards, for all or our sake.

Once Upon A Time

As I have said on many occasions, I’m not a big fan of this administration or this president; but I do pay attention to what he does, what he says, and how he performs. Love him or hate him, you have to admit one small point of admiration … he does have a way of getting to the point, even when it PO’s a lot of people. He continues to throw down the gauntlet to the Republicans, daring them to come forward with a plan on a number of topics and while they are starting to get off dead center, he continues to let them have it. Be it higher taxes on the wealthy, Obamacare, free education, or whatever, he keeps putting his idea’s forward and just asking those that would object to show him their ideas. I may not like the guy, but he’s certainly not short on guts and if he puts enough in front of the Republicans, they actually might be forced to do something about it.

Now the Republicans have sounded the bell once again calling him just another “tax and spend” politician, but they don’t seem to be able to agree on a good counter to his ideas. His tax idea’s are not very new, but the economic environment has certainly changed over the past 30 years so they deserve a closer look and if the Republicans can improve upon it, so be it! But they have to get off their duff and come up with something, anything, just show us something for our money. Obamacare certainly could use some tweaking and it appears they are trying to do something about it so that’s a good start. Free education? Well, the returning veterans from WW II got it and it was the single greatest boost to our economy for 50 years. That’s a pretty good example; so what do they have to counter with? I’m all ears.

No president is perfect and this one certainly is no exception, but let’s face it. I came into office with a pile of crap on his plate and he managed to turn it around to just some smelly fertilizer. Not perfect, but better than he started with. He’s often considered too much of a dove and would prefer diplomacy over war. Believe me, as a former combat soldier I like the idea of anyone that prefers diplomacy over warfare and I know a hell of a lot of moms and dads out there that would agree. Not saying there isn’t a time to draw swords and go into battle, but working the room until every form of diplomacy is exhausted isn’t a bad idea.

Some would say he made a serious gaffs at the National Prayer Breakfast and perhaps his timing wasen’t ideal, but lets focus on the facts. He simply told the unpopular truth that any honest person must admit. We don’t like it but the facts are the facts. If those simple facts destroy somebody’s Christian beliefs …. I submit that those persons don’t have any real beliefs. I wasn’t offended by his remarks …. I was made damn uncomfortable, but war is damn uncomfortable and I appreciate somebody reminding us once in awhile. Self reflection is what this country has been known for; certainly no time to start reversing ourselves now!

So no, I don’t like the president any more, but I also don’t like him any less. A leader must lead and that is certainly no popularity contest. Obama will never make my list of favorite presidents but I must admit that he does give me pause and make me think; and after all, isn’t what a leader is supposed to do? The truth may not be popular or comfortable but God knows I fear the day that we simply choose to ignore it.

Vaccine Debate

Like most issues in America, this one will have many people on both sides of the debate, but here is one where compromise is possible even though neither side is going to be entirely happy. I can still remember as a very young child, my parents with my two older sisters walking over to our local school to stand in a very long line in order to each take that little sugar cube with the pink dot on top. It was one of the first polio vaccine’s. I also remember the little girl in a wheelchair. Her arms and legs were so tiny and my mom told me to hush when I ask why she was so small. Her parents were crying so much because the nurse told them that sugar cube was not a cure for polio and would not do anything for their daughter. I also remember that later that year my father telling me that little girl had died.

Most young parents these days have no idea what it is like to be so desperately afraid of an invisible bug that could strike their children down, rob them of their every bit of energy, and eventually kill them … and there is nothing that can be done, no amount of money that can buy back their health. They simply do not know until maybe now. I remember having measles. I was seven years old and it was terrible. Mine seemed to itch and scratch terribly. I remember my mom sitting with me all day long and telling me not to scratch or it would leave me full of scars. She put calamine lotion on me, soaked me in cool baths, just anything she could think of to keep me from digging at my skin.

I know my parents insisted I get every vaccine as a child as I did for my own kids as they were growing up. It was just common sense because we knew the diseases were something to be genuinely afraid of and we were absolutely afraid of that. There was no mention of downs syndrome or anything like that.

Over the years, especially in recent history, there have been a lot of allegations about vaccine’s, about aluminum in antiperspirants and a great many similar things. Often the claims have been incredible boarding on paranoia with each story more sensational than the next. The press is all too happy to publish all of this mess and play devils advocate with so many “what if they are right” stories. Sadly, as each of these claims has been proven to be nothing more than groundless claims, the press seems to forget the importance of publishing those facts. All for the sake of selling more newspapers, more advertising, the never ending chase for the almighty dollar, and in the end it is the public that is fooled and poorly served.

Adding to the hysteria is a government that has so completely lost the trust of the American people, that nobody is likely to believe any information coming from it. The CDC can’t keep up with their own deadly pathogens so how could they possibly know anything about vaccines? One bit of ill will begets another and in the long run it will be we, the citizens, that lose out.

Perhaps this outbreak is a hidden blessing. Perhaps it will take hundreds of children dying in order to wake up so many poorly informed parents and maybe in the long run it will make more parents actually do their own research rather than believe that over opinionated idiot next door that has only opinions and no sound advice. Unfortunately it will be the innocents, the children that will pay the price. And what a price to pay, all for the purpose of waking up parents that were not prepared for parenthood and all that comes with it.

Do You Smoke?

Well I’ve got news for you. You’re not smoking. It is the cigarette that smokes. You’re just the sucker at the other end. You’re the one with the foul breath; the one with ash all over your desk; the one with the stinking room and the smelly curtains. You are also the one who, in all probability, is going to die of emphysema.help

Yes, I know that you can’t do anything with nice set pink of lungs in your grave, but what will two coffee bags help you until that time? And yes again, I also heard that one about smoked meat lasting longer than other meat but let’s face it, that is exactly what you are going to end up as… dead meat.doh

Smoking first became popular a few hundred years ago. In 1612 John Rolfe was the first to cultivate tobacco on a commercial scale. Social smoking, as we know it today, became popular during the nineteenth century and was said to be “totally harmless”. It was even prescribed by some medical practitioners to “calm the nerves”. This, certainly, must have been the misconception of the century. shock

We all know the consequences of smoking today. The problem is so bad that cigarette manufacturers are forced to print warning messages on their products and insurance companies offer reduced premiums to non-smokers. I am absolutely convinced that tobacco (and therefore smoking) would have been totally banned if it were not that so many people were employed by the tobacco industry and for the fact that governments earned so much revenue in taxes!frustrated

Methinks that if we were made to smoke, we would have been created with chimneys on our heads!idea
