Sometimes people take it too far...they need to reflect more!!
Self discipline and control come to mind.
Humility my friend, a most underrated trait of today's world.
Great blog my friend. Call for introspection. I'm guilty once in a while and I'm lurking back to the shadows of repentance.
Love you my friend.
Diplomacy is a good tool for on line discussions...being too rigid not so good...we can learn from others!!
Yes...sometimes we need to recognize the futility of the situation and we have all said things to one another that is less than kind but being big enough to admit fault is key...
I think sometimes people bait others into unkind words...we are only human...but at least you can admit it...some don't...as you know first hand...thanks lind!!
Everyone loves a humble guy. That’s because no one has to compete with a humble guy. Everyone hates a big ego guy, because a big ego guy points out your own shortcomings, lack of skill, desire, heart, dedication and discipline.
All champions have big egos. Without a big ego they would have never become a champion. They would have been just like Joe Average.
Ego isn’t a bad thing. Ego is a must. A big ego is just high self-esteem. All champions have egos. It’s the ankle-biters at the bottom who cry about “humility being a virtue”.
You cannot be a competitor, and a winner, without ego. The desire to be a winner at all costs is what drives champions. To a champion, losing is worse than anything else. Losing is too damaging to the ego.
When champions lose their ego and become humble is when they start their decline. You know what’s humbling? Losing. Losing is humiliating. Winners don’t lose. Only losers lose.
Here is the real deal about humility: You show it to your superiors. You do not show it to your inferiors. Champions have no superiors.
The main problem with being humble in my view is that people can have a habit of walking all over you if you're not careful
This is what I think about humility...a trait for leaders...
In a split second, I do a mental assessment of the situation. Here is a guy, who is smaller in size than me and with a look on his face displaying shear evil. Even though I am confused, and there are other people in the restroom, I politely say to him...no problem, I am leaving right now. I often wonder what would have happened if I would have tried to protect me ego. The bottom line, no matter what would have happened....it would have not been worth it.
From the same night club, my brother heard on the news that two guys were followed while leaving it last Friday night. They were both shot dead in their car. I question....was the provoking factor something to do with their ego?
I once heard....your ego is not your friend.
Like you said if we each looked at our own behaviour and also recognize and acknowledged our own faults and that someone else MIGHT JUST have a point... then it would be a happier place to be.
Humility is a wonderful gift to possess... something we should all seek after as with humility comes the wisdom. Humility is a great teacher.
Thanks loulou... for your blog
I respectfully disagree...why?...if you have not the ability to be a good listener and think too much of yourself...you will fail!!...being humble is a good trait...no boss I know did well working with people if he/she failed to listen to others' ideas...also big egos sometimes mean the person is highly insecure...hiding behind this demeanor to disguise insecurities...perhaps being moderate is best...a healthy ego!!
I am not selling cars...lol...but I have a deal for you!!...aside from that I do agree...we cannot be too soft but I do believe if we are open...we can learn...
What a scary account!!...you trusted your instincts!!...it could have been you?...lesson learned...better to walk on by...no matter how humiliating it may have been...you cannot argue with crazy... glad your still here to tell the tale!!
If u r humble u get walked over and used.
Empathy is required everywhere!!!
It takes courage to admit fault!!...so who wants to be right all the time...we won't learn a thing!!...being humble...nothing wrong with that!!...and we can also agree to disagree...without being disrespectful...thanks for your comment...cheers!!
Is it a matter of semantics?...having empathy is key to being a good person...being humble to me means I don't hold all the right answers...the gift of getting along with people is to keep that ego in check!!...thanks for your insight!!
That is my two cents.
Yes...being humble doesn't require you to keep exposing yourself to bad behaviour...walk on by!!
What is an ego? I also want one. Can one buy it on-line?
Good blog. Personally I think that there is a fine line dividing the big ego guy/gal with arrogance. What's sad is that most arrogant guys/gals actually believe they that they are right and the whole world is wrong. Sickening! Have Good evening.
Have I got a deal for you!!...just send a money order to me and I will make sure your ego is mailed to you...and include shipping and handling fees...
Everyone has an ego! But not everyone is humble! If I had to choose between the two, I would choose humility every time!
Yes...met a few people who no matter what...could not be reasonable...too rigid in their thinking to actually consider another viewpoint...arrogance or inflated ego...not a good trait!!...thanks for your comment and have a good evening too!!
We all have egos...yes...but being humble is a good thing!! Perhaps we need to understand that we all count!!...have a good day/evening and thanks for dropping by...
Jokes aside, I think one can have a huge ego and still be humble. As Luke said, it is arrogance that spoil things.
the blogs have been a little less than kind lately...but I see some redeem themselves...they admit their faults and try to make an effort to listen and understand...some are too rigid to budge from their perches...being humble is a good trait...thanks for the comment!!
I think a big ego can be a sign of insecurity but a keen sense of self is healthy...speaking about moderation...but I agree arrogance is not a good trait to have...less likely to listen and learn from others...
Sometimes people get lost in semantics but I think people know that it is important to have self worth and a good sense of self but some possess inflated egos which leads them to be either be too self assured...unrealistic in their abilities or covering up their lack of self worth...does that make sense...lol...thanks for your comments!!
I had a similar experience...I just say no when it comes to money or avoid their calls...they think I am the bank...never again!!
I had no idea of his credentials...just liked the thought behind it...cheers!!
