My Day on the Street

After a very busy week, I've finally been able to go through my photos of my street photography sojourn to Vancouver. I'll just post the pics and add captions as to what was happening as I've already detailed the day in a previous blog.

To start off, a local setting up their site for the day.

Are we having fun yet? This guy does not seem to be too terribly impressed and it's still early in the day!

And then, there's those "just got to have them" irresistible red stockings for men - the piece de resistance of fashion wear, and my cue to exit stage left and catch the train home.

Your pictures

How to consider a portrait.
You are selling the idea that you have appeal an therefore, your picture must have certain elements and as such should clearly show your face. Wearing sunglasses, or putting on your worst face wins you nothing. Portrait is your face and includes shoulders, neck some chest. The more you believe someone wants to see more of your body the less of the real you they see because you have to be farther away. Don't evade the truth about you, no need to because you can work with it. You can pose side-on. If you think you are big and stand side-on don't then put a handbag in front of your tummy because you'll look wider. Practice positions that reduce your bottom or tummy and look at the pictures critically. Use your smile, don't overdo makeup, and pose naturally, not at odd angles. No artistic stuff. Just good images. Those images I award an 8 to are visually explosive and the images are very appealing and well taken. Awarding an image an 8 when it's no better than a 1 does no favours to the subject.

I have been through every female Australian image. I look at every image from the view point of appeal, pose, how well it was taken, clarity, and subject. If you are on this website to find someone give it your best. Let people really see you - the real you.

StreetWalker: Working the Market

Yesterday I was vending at the White Rock Farmer's Market - a highly popular beach community and where I lived while my daughter was growing up. As I live further east in the lush agricultural valley, it takes me about an hour and a half to drive there, necessitating me to leave here very early, despite the market not opening until 10:00am.

The weekend was overcast and much cooler, thank goodness, which I figured would result in a busy market. Alas, it was not to be and sales were very slow. However, it did afford me the opportunity to practice street photography, and I had a lot of fun doing so. Something else to add to my photo obsession.

To start off the day, Corky the clown was setting up to make balloon animals, etc, for the kids.

A totally fun day spent practicing, although I was restricted by not being able to move around the market due to working my own table. Regardless, I'm happy with what I captured, although I could use a different lens (haha, what else is new?).

Some Newer Nature Photos by me

Here's 7 photos that I presented at a local photo club.
They enjoyed them.
Now here for your viewing...... pain or pleasure. laugh

They were all taken shortly after the huge snow storm we received here in New Jersey,
about 18 inches on average with drifts even higher.

First there was a fairly warm day and I went to a small waterfall that I know.
I knew that some of the snow would be melting and make for a nice flow for the waterfall.
So, I went crunching through 2 feet of snow for 150 yards or so to get there & photograph it;

I also caught a naked tree silhouette of a cloudy sunset another evening;

Right after I took that photo a small black mink walked almost
over my feet. By the time I switched lenses, it disappeared. dunno

These next 2 are of a female redtail hawk, probably trying to lure me away
from her nest, even though I never saw her nest, while crunching through the woods.
Shortly after these 2 photos she flew higher up in a further away tree
and progressively did it a second time when I followed her. Smart bird.

You make the photo caption - polar bear

The last one of thee was a lot of fun with several good captions.
So, here's another nature photo. This one of a polar bear.
Again, if you like add your own suggestion(s) for the caption.
Or simply enjoy the creative offerings by others. head banger

My first caption is; "Hey you. Give me a kiss and you get a special.....bear hug." wink

Here's the photo (not mine);

Streetwalkin': Resorting to the Resort

One of my clients stopped by my house to pick up some product yesterday and advised me that it was smokier where I lived than in Harrison, at the lake. Of course I was all over that and decided to head up to the lake, camera in hand, of course.

I first drove up to Greenpointe, a section of the lake that's a bit quieter. Very quiet yesterday. On the way there, I spied some driftwood in a cove that was inviting, even with the smoke.

I noted a heron sitting on a branch and zoomed in as he took flight and landed on another one, squawking at me in it's prehistoric voice.

Noting a woman sitting with her feet in the water, reading, she was a great subject.

And so she wouldn't notice me (she didn't anyway), I hadn't realized there was a windsurfer out on the lake.

Back into town to the resort area with the main road lined with shops and restaurants along the beachfront, it was a perfect place to people watch!

This lady looked like she was from my generation of hippies, and I loved her colourful dress.

It's hazardous driving down the main road, as cyclists tend to ride the wrong way down the one way street.

Heading down to the beach, a city worker was on garbage detail.

This elderly lady was totally lost in her own world until her hubby called her to go the other way.

Although I'd zoom in on her hand in future, I cropped the photo to her hand as I loved the character in it holding her cane. A little grainy due to the cropping, but I like the composition.

You can see how smokey it is in this photo, it's almost like mist swirling around the trees.
