Streetwalkin': Resorting to the Resort

One of my clients stopped by my house to pick up some product yesterday and advised me that it was smokier where I lived than in Harrison, at the lake. Of course I was all over that and decided to head up to the lake, camera in hand, of course.

I first drove up to Greenpointe, a section of the lake that's a bit quieter. Very quiet yesterday. On the way there, I spied some driftwood in a cove that was inviting, even with the smoke.

I noted a heron sitting on a branch and zoomed in as he took flight and landed on another one, squawking at me in it's prehistoric voice.

Noting a woman sitting with her feet in the water, reading, she was a great subject.

And so she wouldn't notice me (she didn't anyway), I hadn't realized there was a windsurfer out on the lake.

Back into town to the resort area with the main road lined with shops and restaurants along the beachfront, it was a perfect place to people watch!

This lady looked like she was from my generation of hippies, and I loved her colourful dress.

This guy was waving at someone in the restaurant as he passed.

It's hazardous driving down the main road, as cyclists tend to ride the wrong way down the one way street.

This guy worked at the local market and came out for a smoke break.

Loved the trio of umbrellas on the outdoor patio of a restaurant.

A Sikh walking on the street instead of the sidewalk. Avoiding my camera, perhaps?

Loved the contrast of this hat with the shadows.

You see all manner of dress and hats here.

I hadn't realized what was going on when I took this photo, but look at the woman's face, she looks decidedly peeved!

Another hat, looks well used.

Heading down to the beach, a city worker was on garbage detail.

This elderly lady was totally lost in her own world until her hubby called her to go the other way.

Although I'd zoom in on her hand in future, I cropped the photo to her hand as I loved the character in it holding her cane. A little grainy due to the cropping, but I like the composition.

This guy looks like a bouncer sitting outside an ice cream shop - lol!

And this is what was going on inside it!

Smokey on the golf course as I left.

You can see how smokey it is in this photo, it's almost like mist swirling around the trees.

Hello LadyImp wave Nice Pics, thumbs up Enjoyed those THANKS. We had sunny skies here in West Central Sask, but as I m writing this Heavy smoke from BC is being blown into the area from Alberta. Reports on the radio are saying the smoke is about as thick as its been this yr,doh
Imp,

Gorgeous here in the midwest today. 70's for temp and beautiful sun. Met up with my son and grandson and drank some beers in our favorite park! Yo gotta love it! thumbs up thumbs up thumbs up
Hi 1to1! wave It was so nice last Friday to go south and see some blue skies. Unfortunately, even there has smoke now. The smoke here lifted a bit yesterday but today it's bad again. Isn't it unbelievable how far the smoke travels without dissipating? You'd think that it would dissipate over the miles, but obviously not.

It must have been bad today because after my bike ride, I found myself really, really tired, and although that could partly be lack of iron, I'm thinking it's more lack of oxygen and I stayed indoors the rest of the day. Sigh. This is the second year we've been under smoke filled skies when we should be enjoying blue sky and sunshine. crying
GentleJim - sounds like a lovely day for you! I'm beginning to wonder what blue sky looks like. Glad you enjoyed your day. thumbs up
TR - thanks! New to this form of photography, it's much more difficult than one would surmise. Although it's good practice almost anywhere, the downtown area has more character and characters to photograph. I'll head back there next week and find some spots to people watch. grin
Hey Imp, is the town not dog friendly? I'm surprised not to see any pics of people with their pet companions. Of course being partial to dogs I would ask something like that.

I love when you get new challenges. It's inspiriing to watch you set your goals then go after them.
Fay - yes the town's dog friendly as long as they're on a leash. The first photo of the hippy lady she's walking her dog. I have a couple of others with dogs, but didn't post them. I guess because I'm a cat person, I'm not particularly interested in or focus on dogs. grin
Fay - re: the new challenges. Thank you! I do enjoy street photography, although don't think it'll take over from landscapes and macro - at least, not at this point. :)
I was asking BFF in White Rock if they were affected, her hubby broke 3 ribs recently and the smoke is making him cough so badly he's had to ship out to their holiday place. Yikes.

Nice pics again thumbs up
Great pics

I would love to be technically good at taking pics sigh

I think I am braindead where that is concerned

If I could have a good photographer with me at all times to take the pics I spot, it would be perfect laugh
It's like anything, Molly - it's just practice, practice and more practice - and luck! grin
I like your first picture. It reminds me a bit of a somewhat similar scene that I photographed in Hawaii
Very nice photos.i liked.the golf course pictures with the smoke.
Looks like you live in a beautiful place! thumbs up
Thanks, Jim. The ones that are faves are landscapes - rather than street photos! lol
Thanks, bluesky - yes, the smoke was pretty thick that day - and eery looking over the golf course.
Talldreamy - yes, it definitely is, when the smoke clears!
