What will you do to get you and your teammates to the starting gate of the snowboard cross race on time?
Most likely, the judges are aware of how every one is getting to the start. They would also be informed of any malfunctions or worse. Most likely going to sit it out and wait until the issue is fixed or they ride in with other equipment to get us down.
Trying anything "daring" at this point could backfire. Especially if the lift starts running again while acting on it. There's no way I would try releasing the break and think about securing a rope or something to try pulling the lift the rest of the way up the hill, or even being on the cables at all. Yeah, sitting it out sounds good.
The only other option would depend on the ground being really close and not too far up the hill to the starting point of the event. That might be somewhat reasonable but also unlikely.

FINAL EVENT - Day 23 
Your last night in Sochi. With the games behind you, this is your evening to relax and unwind from the strenuous events of the first ever CS Olympics. Your battered and bruised and having nightmares of skating cows in ripped tutus. How to regain your sanity?
A Russian sauna.
You sweat away your aches and pains, then run outside and jump into the snow or an icy lake, then come back in to sweat some more, eat, drink and be merry.
We reminisce about the thrills and agonies of the last 2 weeks. A lot of vodka is consumed, and it's time for us all to.....get naked?
What are you going to do at this point?
A) Keep a towel wrapped around your body, have apple juice or one shot of vodka, and get to bed early. You have a long flight back home in the morning.
B) Throw off your towel, have several shots of vodka, and get to bed at a reasonable hour. You have a long flight back home in the morning.
C) Throw off your towel, drink all night (drinking alcohol not required), sweat with your CS Olympians, run outside and dive headfirst into the snow. And take 2 aspirin in the morning with one helluva hangover, looking like something the cat dragged in, as you board the plane in the morning for an excruciatingly long flight home.
