CS OLYMPICS - 4 (902)

Dear Diary: CS Olympics are almost complete - the parties have been non stop and much enjoyed.

in the spirit of goodwill and as a Team member of Planet Earth, BB Snickers, Pedal Guy and CCincy learned a little Russian and developed a translation for our competing Teams to help them in the international olympic village.

So to Team Australia New Zealand, before Event 5 we gave them the Russian Proverb " Do not spit into a well - it may be useful to drink water "- Ne plyuy v kolodets - prigoditsya (vody) napit'sya. However, through no fault of ours - it accidently got mixed up and was missing the word NOT - soon Kauriman, Merriweather, Jono7, HotrodLarrys and DJWabbet were advising everyone to spit into the well.....

After the Russian government officials rounded up the Team, the whole thing was cleared up.....

This did not stop Team Planet Earth from further translations of Russian Proverbs to "help" out the other teams.....

Dear Diary: as part of our "helping" of the competing Teams, we encouraged a few more to use the Russian Proverbs and assured them of their translations.

During Event Day 10 curling, team Canada was given the Russian Proverb Novaya Metla po-novomu metyot - A new broom sweeps in a new way. only I don't know what happened in the translation....

for pretty soon StilloftheNight, Scott1812, 2Intrigued, Chatonlyman, and Kenn were shouting this in Russian at the top of their lungs with a slight variation and in the middle of the time to sweep their rocks to target, the Olympic referees, took away their brooms and provided new ones....

Team Planet Earth revised our translation right after this tiny snafu..... it was just a misunderstanding.

I'll be right over to the penalty box with a bottle.

With all the good work that Team Planet Earth has produced in their Russian English Proverbs translation, it could not just be shared with 2 teams. teaching the proverb in Russian was just one of the many "services" we provided over the CS Olympic events....

Team Ireland, Catibrae, Benni, Mauss and Rose1971 needed to explain after an anonymous tip came in early in the Events Day 2 Freestyle swimming that Team Europe was missing their swimsuits and Team Ireland had stolen them... Now, who could have given such a tip to the Russians? So being the good competitors we gave them a helpful Russian Proverb to tell the Russian policia - Ne Poyman - Ne Vor or Unless caught (stealing), (one is) not a thief. and somehow in Team Ireland's use of the Russian, it got a little mixed up and next thing we hear they are being carted off for a while because of saying to the police in Russian that they were caught stealing and were thiefs...

Just a little mixup and we fixed our translation box right after that.... it was a lesson in just how important words are in the translation.

Dear Diary;

I would be remiss if I did not clarify that it was not the fault of our translation that we gave to Team UK Truheart, Almera03, Twazzle, ObstinanceWorks and xxDandelionxx during Event Day 5 when Vladimir Putin honored us all to the Sochi Village with the bear dish.

In the spirit of helping the teams communicate we gave a few Russian sayings to them - Odna Charka na zdorov'e, drugaya na vesel'e tret'a na vzdor was meant to be a toast at the meal meaning one cup (of alcohol) is for health, second one is for fun, third one is for nothing......

only they mixed up the Russian words in the say of it and it ended up that they bought rounds of booze for all of us - it was free for us and costly to the UK team. I don't know what happened when they said this in Russian.
