how many people are totally different and outgoing online, but shy and introverted in real life? i used to be bold and outgoing/sociable, but as the years have passed, i'm finding myself even more shy and have a hard time meeting people (to me, people seem more unapproachable now), just talking friendship really; let alone dating.

thought i'd ask others here. any and all comments appreciated :)

I know at this stage if I want to meet people, I have to be the one to go out and do something about meeting them. They won't knock on my door.

As with friendships, life gets busier as we get older - demanding jobs, family and kids - it requires work to keep in contact and it's a 2 way street. I always make sure I keep in contact with my friends and what is going on in their life and if they are busy with their kids, I'll drop in. conversing

Yes, I found it a lot easier to make friends/socialise when I was younger, let alone dating, because there are less people out there the older you get that socialise or date. wave

I dunno, a smile works wonders. I'm very extrovert in real life and find it easy to chat with people.

I love a good conversation about anything and everything, I am curious and have no problem talking to strangers, a little joke can make the day much brighter and I never miss an opportunity... That's in real life...
Here...not any different...
The only time I am quiet(well, not for long) is when I really, really like someone...

I'm an introvert by nature.

I have noticed the more outgoing I am online, the more outgoing I am offline.

Hello there...I am having a great day here on the Oregon coast--played ancient Scottish lullabye and other song for church this morning. Now, back to cottage and watch more of "To Serve Them All My Days"--miniseries I never got to watch in the '80's. (I finally have the dvds). Have you seen it? It is a wonderful story, but one must watch and listen patiently.(Those Brit thespians!) The sky and sea are clear today, and the scent of oysters, salt, and gulls, etc...in the air. Howz it goin wi' you? lips

I'm so painfully shy I annoy myself.

And yet I have an inner confidence that may very sociable people don't seem to have.

I'm very much an introvert, which means I have a lot going on inside my head and I don't need a huge amount of external stimuli to get the cogs and wheels whirring around.

At work, no one would know I'm shy. I play my part well attending to the practical and social needs of others...but in my own time I'm pretty much a lone wolf.

Shyness, sociability, introvertness, extrovertness and confidence are often more complex and individual than depicted in popular belief.

I like internet communication because I don't have any difficulty hearing people, I have time to think about my measured replies and I can choose my interactions. smile
