One2note: I remember at the time how president Bush & our own mr. Blair were saying how they will blow Saddam Husain & his regime to smithereens .. Even the bombs had his name written on them... They laughed at the time but the laughter was soon wiped off their faces after the incident of 9/11 as they went into hiding.

secretagent09: Being that I live close to NY I visited the Memorial Fountains where this woman is and let me tell you, it is the biggest funeral parlor I have ever seen.

All the names of the people who were on Flight 93 are together. That is the plane that crashed in Shankesville, PA. When I saw all their names together I thought of how hard they fought the terrorists to keep the plane from crashing in Washington.

I didn't know anyone whose name is on those granite walls but I did touch some of the names of the people on Flight 93 to show appreciation for what they did.

when I stayed with friends in America they took me to the site of the flight 93 crash it was one of the most emotional days I can remember

jac_the_gripper: The falling man is an iconic image that has been usef in the media.

Whilst this particular image suggests a certain serenity, the series of photos of his death suggests quite the opposite.

An investigation attempted to identify the man, and many families searching for loved ones and answers went through the ordeal.

In the end a mother suggested it was possibly her son, but refused to officially identify him, perhaps preferring privacy in her grief and that this image became representitive of a collective loss.

To the OP: please respect that some people may not wish to be reminded every year of their loss. Everyone has the right to grieve in their own way.

I'm really surprised to read your post in this thread. True, we all can grieve differently. In this case, 9/11, a larger portion of country grieves the needless losses we suffered on 9/11/2001.

It wasn't long after this national event that I lost both my mother and wife to a cancer. Regardless, how do you know that this thread isn't my way of giving for a loss on 9/11?

Good seeing you again in the forums!

secretagent09: People who lost someone on that day aren't reading CS threads to be reminded that 3,000 people were murdered on Sept. 11, 2001.

They live the horror of that day every day, even 15 years later.

As with every other thread on here, if you don't want to know what is said in the thread don't read it.

I read yesterday that almost 700 people from New Jersey died in the attack. The people were identified by their cars that were never removed from train stations until the police checked license plates. All those people lived in NJ and worked in the towers.

Memorials are planned for this area of New Jersey this weekend. They aren't just for those who died. They are for those who are living. Those who didn't lose someone that day will show respect to those.

And by the way, pieces of façade of the towers are all over New Jersey in memorial parks with our flag and a memorial plaque.

This is a picture of one that is near where I live. Please click on the pic to see all of it. That piece of rusted steel was once one of the World Trade towers.

Have a nice day Jac. It's good seeing you.

thanks for your post, M. I didn't realize so many from New Jersey were murderd in the towers on 9/11. I understand people from 60 different countries were in the Towers when flights were flown into them on that dark day....

St. Louisans impacted by Sept. 11 attacks say the nation must never forget

On Sunday, as Americans remember the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania, 93-year-old Warren Nelson of St. Louis will avoid looking at the photographs.

Fifteen years ago, Nelson watched on television as the fires raged and black smoke billowed from the top floors of the twin towers of the World Trade Center, knowing that his oldest son, David, was working on the 92nd floor of the North Tower. The offices of his commodities brokerage firm were right below the burning gash where the hijacked Boeing 767 slammed into the building.

Listen Listening...3:51 Listen to St. Louisans discuss the impact of Sept. 11 on their lives.
“We, like so many others, lived on that TV all day long. And the news and the radio. Every bit of news we could get — hoping,’’ he says. “I was trying to guess how long it would take David to walk down 92 floors."

Their hope collapsed when the towers fell.

“We knew that our lives had changed forever,” Nelson says.

His clear, blue eyes glisten with sadness as he remembers.

“I was in the Air Force in World War Two,’’ he continues. “I saw my friends shot down that I had breakfast with. We got over that in a hurry because we had to. Or we couldn’t go back and fly the next day. But this with David is something you never forget."

“I hope the world doesn’t forget”

Fifteen years since the terrorist attacks, a generation is coming of age that is too young to remember how Americans gathered together in front of television sets with family, friends and strangers, watching the horror unfold.

Nelson understands that, and it concerns him.

Nelson and his wife Betty are longtime residents of Kirkwood who reared four children. They now live in a senior living center in Des Peres. Nelson, a former broker, has been writing about his family’s history, including a book about David.

“I wanted all of our grandchildren to know about David’s life, so I spent a lot of time putting all the pieces together,’’ he says.

Nelson keeps photos of David by his computer and on a windowsill in the family room. He thinks about him every day.

“I guess as time passes, it doesn’t hurt as much, but I still think of it,’’ he says.

Nelson wants people to know who his son was. David William Nelson was 50 when he died. A graduate of Kirkwood High School, he studied music and played the French horn before joining a brokerage firm. Nelson says David was a good son, and a good father to his daughter Ingrid, who was 8, and his son Frederick, who was 4, when he died.

“I always thought the real tragedy was the children,’’ Nelson says. “Their mother has done a great job of raising them, and they’re turning out to be fine individuals. But alone.“

Nelson and his family visited the national 9/11 memorial in New York several years ago and found David’s name listed with the 69 employees of Carr Futures who died that day.

“For a long time, I said, ‘I’ll never go because I don’t want to remember it that way.’ I wanted to remember the way it was when David took me to lunch,’’ Nelson says, his voice choking. “But as time passed, I thought we should see it. At least once.”

9/11 Budweiser Commercial - AIRED ONLY ONCE

They only aired it once so as not to benefit financially from it - they just wanted to acknowledge the tragic event ......

That's different ... Airing it once couldn't hurt patriotic respect for a Bud Light though.

Kind of Erie now watching the opening scene to an old favorite 'the sopranos' because about 16 secs into it, Tony Soprano looks at the twin towers in his driver side rear-view mirror on his SUV.

New Jersey shows respect. No doubt other states will follow.

TRENTON - Gov. Chris Christie has ordered flags at state government buildings lowered to half-staff on Sept. 11 in memory of those killed in the terrorist attacks.

In his executive order, the Republican says almost 700 New Jerseyans were among the nearly 3,000 who perished 15 years ago.

Christie says their relatives continue to endure the loss.

rose September 11, 2001 - I was working third shift in those days, and had just made it in from work that morning, then turned on the T.V.

Heard the news about the attack on CNBC, then switched to another network for continuous information. Took twenty minutes for me to know exactly what happened as play-back of the events were shown over-and-over while the anchors were talking about it. And they struggled to have up-to-the-minute updates their-selves that morning.

By the time that I first saw the news, both towers had already sustained impact. And as I watched the T.V. - I saw the first collapse. Then the second tower went to the ground... Thinking back, I have no way of knowing at what time that I heard about Pennsylvania and the Pentagon. Was just trying to absorb the information the best way that I could.

At that time, I as well as anyone, didn't know if further events would unfold that morning... Impulse reaction gave me thoughts of going to the nearest pawnshop to buy weapons. Why? Because I can. I'm an American.

Manhatten is an island and people were trapped on it on 9/11. It was panic time. Bridges and tunnels were closed

Almost 500,000 people were rescued by a Coast Guard-led fleet of tugboats and yachts.

I believe this is the largest known evacuation of people by water in 9 hours.

Meet Me In The Stairwell
by Stacey Randall

You say you will never forget where you were when you heard the news On September 11, 2001. Neither will I.

I was on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room with a man who called his wife to say ‘Good-Bye.’ I held his fingers steady as he dialed. I gave him the peace to say, ‘Honey, I am not going to make it, but it is OK..I am ready to go.’

I was with his wife when he called as she fed breakfast to their children. I held her up as she tried to understand his words and as she realized he wasn’t coming home that night.

I was in the stairwell of the 23rd floor when a woman cried out to Me for help. ‘I have been knocking on the door of your heart for 50 years!’ I said. ‘Of course I will show you the way home – only believe in Me now.’

I was at the base of the building with the Priest ministering to the injured and devastated souls. I took him home to tend to his Flock in Heaven. He heard my voice and answered.

I was on all four of those planes, in every seat, with every prayer. I was with the crew as they were overtaken. I was in the very hearts of the believers there, comforting and assuring them that their faith has saved them.

I was in Texas, Virginia, California, Michigan, Afghanistan. I was standing next to you when you heard the terrible news. Did you sense Me?

I want you to know that I saw every face. I knew every name – though not all know Me. Some met Me for the first time on the 86th floor.

Some sought Me with their last breath. Some couldn’t hear Me calling to them through the smoke and flames; ‘Come to Me… this way… take my hand.’ Some chose, for the final time, to ignore Me. But, I was there.

I did not place you in the Tower that day. You may not know why, but I do. However, if you were there in that explosive moment in time, would you have reached for Me?

Sept. 11, 2001, was not the end of the journey for you. But someday your journey will end. And I will be there for you as well. Seek Me now while I may be found. Then, at any moment, you know you are ‘ready to go.’

I will be in the stairwell of your final moments.

-Jesus

With reference to the video of the evacuation of Manhattan, CapNemo, a CS member, is a tugboat captain.

I wonder if he was part of the rescue mission.
