That is the effect being sought. Also to make one more sedate. Anxiolytics (minor) are for anxiety and are used to induce a more tranquil and sedate state. Antipsychotics (major), are used for the same effect but against more major neurological manifestations. Whether or not they achieve the desired state is on a "case by case" scenario.
