KNenagh: Just block everything that is possible Molly. Narrow age range, block anyone looking for anything casual etc.
It was easier before as I could block this region and mail from men, but so far the blocks do work.
Oh believe me, my settings are very tight! I'd love if there was an option for Munster only though, that would make it perfect. Well, still too wide, but closer to perfect

Yeah, I consider everyone living away more than 1 hours drive a LDR.
KNenagh: I was surprised that after they changed the criteria that it still does work.
So not much around that would fulfill the criteria.
Hows life treating you Lookin'?
Yeh good thanks K
I was supposed to go back to work yesterday, but boss man brought me a new lorry and it's not on the road yet // i mean .. bugga! After 3 months off i needed two days off (yesterday and today)

Hope you are terrific K.... lub ya
All going well, just could do with a longer break. More renovating.
Hope you'll get your lorry soon and are back on the road.
IMHO ... it's always better to be honest about 'what you look for' than to waste the time of those people who are 'outside of' the group that you would even consider. If you have your heart set on a new Ford you'd not not really pay any attention to a GM salesperson would you - and you'd certainly not wander into their showroom to waste their time? So, why be less courteous here ? ( as an aside perhaps 'courtesy and here' are exclusive terms ? )
Likewise with the selection of where you will accept mail from ... and of course it's always another aid to spotting scammers if they don't read the profile and just bang out the same mail to everyone regardless !
The downside ... is there one 'really' ?
You might be considered in a negative light by people who do not meet your list of demands ... but why would you care about that - at all?
After all, a person who DOES fit your recipe ingredients list is most likely tho think well of you as a 'person who knows what they want...'
ps - Most people who come here are deluded anyway ... the chance of relationship success via dating sites is so small as to be insignificant and it's very plain from the forums that The Un-datables' are sourced from here for the TV shows. There's a majority there who come to gripe n whine or seek attention and air their issues in public!

I agree with you about the honesty.
I disagree with you about your latter point. I think that is very insulting to good people. I have met some in real life, and they are intelligent, witty and very attractive people.

mollybaby: Are restrictive profiles good or bad?
Profiles vary considerably between people who are looking for anybody from 18-99, of any size, height, religion, living in any country of any marital status, to those who only want a person of one race, one colour, one area, one culture, one size, one age, etc.
Is it better to be open to anything that comes along or to be circumspect from the beginning?
Which has the better chance of success?
It depends how choosy I can afford to be. As a man online that's not very choosy yet if I was a woman I may even invent restrictions which aren't even true just to test the guy's nerve. For example I may say I don't wanna get married even tho I want to be swept off my feet. A woman's boundaries are pure imagination half the time.

You're right obs, we live in a happy fantasy world most of the time. Don't take it from us.
I let anybody talk to me; but I only want to date a woman who lives within 20 miles of me.
I have a simple lifestyle, offgrid, only solar power, with over 1/2 my land dedicated to the natural forest, an organic garden, and only rainwater to drink; and I'm not moving or getting a job: so I'd like to find a woman who lives like I do, but doesn't need to live with me. That probaly means she'd have to live within 10 miles of me.
I probably have the hardest list to fill; but, that doesn't mean I won't at least talk to somebody I'm not interested in dating.
I have some old friend's here; and I enjoy an occasional message from them: but I doubt we'll ever meet.

I assume that all of those (women) who have set their ages as 99 years and are looking for men aged 99-99 years old are completely off their trolleys and are only here to create trouble ...
That's NOT what a dating site is supposed to be about ... is it ?
I believe one must have standards...but always keep an open mind. Not one of my relationships have fit the criteria of what I would like ideally. I am not generally attracted to blondes..however, I met a blonde and had a f year relationship with her.
I can see why some would want a restrictive profile, though. If you don't like skinny women, why have them contact you? If you don't like men with facial hair...restrict them from contacting you. However...keep an open mind.
3 simple things which I dont like- tattoos, being overweight, and smoking cigarettes... I can easily meet that criteria myself, but I doubt there is a woman on the internet that can meet all 3 herself. I've had to soften my stance on tatts and smokes, or I'd never get laid at all.
But seriously, who takes any notice of profiles anyway?

Can only speak for myself but I set my age at 91 to avoid the proliferation of mail that all women get

Do you not have to allow mail from your own country?
