Just wondering whether the body has a natural weight.
Since my early 20's, my body weight has always been around 92 kilos regardless of my lifestyle, however, following an operation for a burst appendix two years ago my body weight keeps increasing.
I now find that for the first time in my life, I need to watch what I eat and do constant exercise if I want to keep my weight stable. I can tell you that having to start exercising at the age of 62 really sucks!

Is weight gain age related or am I just unlucky?
You are lucky that you haven't had this as an issue until now.
My Dad was the same until he retired. Never had a problem with his weight. But now he is retired he doesn't have the same activity level, the same stress level and the same sleeping pattern as he did or the same health.
So I don't know if anything has changed there for you. But it can go either way.
Your metabolism naturally decreases the older you get...so where you may still be eating as you always did your body isn't burning it off as it once did hence the weight gain and the term 'middle age spread'.

Hope you've recovered.
I always thought middle age spread was reffing to legs or something,,,,
Sol, the antibiotics and other meds you took probably changed the balance in your gut bacteria. Start eating more prebiotic and probiotic foods to realign it again.
I have experienced a rise in body weight from being young, to now...and most other people too....u appear to naturally pick up weight as u reach middle age...but u don't look any worse....it's just life...and yes u have to look after ur weight later in life....I find if I have too many cakes, which I love...I will pick up a kg in a day....but loose it again soon after....depending on my eating patterns....I feel entitled to binge every so often, just to enjoy all the nice things I fancy...as I luckily don't really have a weight problem.....

I'd suggest it's age-related which is why gentle exercise is recommended
