I totally agree: a gun is a piece of metal that can't harm anyone on its own.
But it might happen that sometime in the distant future, you'd want to ask yourself some different questions, like: "How many mass shootings a month you would regard as too many. How many people killed in mass shootings you'd regard as enough?" ... or some such.
Well there s plenty kitchen knives around and few who end up with one in the back. So that support your thinking.
Criminals will kill with any type of weapon or no weapon at all. That also support your second amendment type of view.
Thirdly, here in relatively peaceful Norway (sure, exceptions has happened) we have plenty guns I've heard, just like in Canada. A lot for hunting and the rest for the home guard folk. We still have those. That also support a pro gun argument.
And lastly we need them when they have them, the criminals that is.

With all that said, could killing under certain cercumstances prove a tad easier with a fire arm, as it makes a pshycological distance between the aggressor and the victim (..?) Has this been studied?

Yes to all of that. I personally don't like guns. Run out of ammo and it is just a hunk of metal. Adapting weapons from your surroundings is my thing. I also like 2a. The more freedoms we have the better. What always kills me is they typically base shootings in the US but never in nations with higher either crime rates or revolutionaries. They do the same thing with serial killers. I just read some thing about Drew Carey being called as a witness to his exgf murder. Her ex waited for her with a syringe full of Nicotine. You get that from soaking cigarettes in water. You have to admit that is a pretty unique way to picture his murder plan. She was beaten to death then thrown off her balcony. He did not plan that well. And more people are scared of knives than guns. I feel it is because everyone has been cut at some point.

Well my friend, I can't like guns myself very much. It's kinda like nukes, who can love them? I remember when I did my obligatoric 12 months army service at age 20 and got my/our/the AG3 in hands... it really felt wrong! I knew what it was for... so to speak.
It proved not long after however that I was one of the best sniper shots in the platoon. Target shooting was therefore rewarding as long as I kept my head of what it was meant for. To aim at a live head would make me womit I think.
The vikings used swords. I think that somehow was more of a gentleman weapon... Though Skarpehedin (son of Njål) mostly used an axe only
Where there's a will, there's a way. Cars, knives, propane, frying pan, hammer, wire, drugs...it is not the method..it is the why. A car doesn't kill unless it is named Christine. A bottle of booze doesn't kill unless drunk. Water doesn't leap up and drown nor do balconies through people off.

I have to argue with the water part, hurricanes, typhoons and floods kind of disprove that point. Get drunk fail face first in a puddle and drown in three inches of water. Water is the only thing that can be in three states at once, solid, liquid and gas. People underestimate water the same way they do methane. How many people die each year in septic tanks?
Yesterday we buried one of my beloved co workers. A wonderful young man. Always a smile on his face. An asset to his community. His death broke my heart. He was a father of seven. Many elderly depended on him for rides to the store etc. Saturday he was playing a game of dominoes with some friends. Another one of his friends had a disagreement. Shot him six times in the stomach and twice in the head. Yet he still lived. He died in the hospital His friend realizing what he had done turn the gun on his self. Shot at his head and missed. Tried again and he also died in the hospital. The gun was a tool that the man used to create this horrific event. I am still pro gun. I was raised around guns. And was taught respect for them. The first time I shot a gun and felt the bullet leaving the chamber it was a scary feeling of power. I knew then what a responsibility holding a weapon like this is. Mental illness is running rampant in our country and I imagine in the rest of the world. Not even stricter gun laws can change this. One moment someone seems perfectly fine. Another "poof" they are not. Maybe it was something that had been growing inside them and they kept it buried till it reared its ugly head. But killing someone mass killings there are so many more ways to do it than a gun. A gun makes it personal.

I cant help but feeling that "lots of guns around" makes the accesss seem a bit too easy (in ones mind) when a person with a mental condition has a bad day you know, 1 + 1 = 2 and all that. But on the other hand, perhaps those guns are not so easily available as I imagine them to be, 'ova there'? Here hardly anyone has a gun at home, I know nobody.

"If you would care to post a thread on your interest I would like to reply there. Until then you might toss around....
Mass shootings here are defined as "three or more people being shot." More than 90 percent of mass shootings in America are generated by street criminals, most often drug gangs.
But our current fed government refuses to define "gun violence" in that context. That's because the shooters are often African-American inner-city miscreants. Of course, the victims of gunfire are disproportionately Black as well."
other hint.... what our government refuses to address while blaming good citizens for gun ownership leading to crimes and mass shootings. Uno) criminals use firearms to control narcotics traffic and create general mayhem. And duo, mentally disturbed people can easily buy guns in many places because each state has different firearm procedures."
