Girl Scouts

the girl scouts had their last meeting today
that are held at our school, now they'll go away
to another locale, then later, off to camp
where they'll do their scout thing, perhaps light the lamp
Motto: Be Prepared...Tagline: Where girls grow strong
Slogan: Do a good turn daily...(may we all belong)

phenomenomly, youth scouting found itself....
following publication of 1908's "Scouting for Boys"
by Lord Robert Baden-Powell, 'Chief Scout of the World'
then "Girl Guiding" soon followed with direction and poise

Lord married Lady Olave Soames, 'World Chief Guide'
by 1912, boy scouts and girl scouts were forming worldwide
internationally, three leaves forming 'Trefoil'
was the symbol of girl scouting, to forever stay loyal
to god and country and to serve fellow man
it was also the year Girl Scouts of America began

for in Savannah Georgia, the first meeting was held
led by its' founder 'Daisy' Juliette Gordon Low
and through her tutelage and that of many that followed
this wonderful organization only continues to grow

*Positioning Statement: Girl Scouts of the USA helps cultivate values, social conscience, and self esteem in young girls, while also teaching them critical life skills that will enable them to succeed as young adults.

....well, anyway...today, a funny thing happened at the girl scout meeting...as I am want to, I dropped in to their meeting and basically...verbally aggrivated them. I asked one young lady (age 11) why (though I knew the answer) she always wore a skirt. (I know, I know...relax, these kids know me and I know them, nobody's critisizing anyone or making light of their beliefs, just honest conversation between friends)...she replied, because of my religion. I inquired as to which church she attends (as if I didn't know), and she answered the local (name withheld) Apostalic church. I mentioned that a co-worker attended the same church and she informed me that he no longer did, because another member left his wife for another woman, yet that member still attended the church. I asked who the preacher was and she replied 'well, my grandfather used to be but they wouldn't let him play his saxophone any longer, so he quit. he hurt his thumb in an accident and could no longer press a lever to play the music right....'

ok M.Tat was real bad on that one...but it is an interesting exchange I'd agree. I think the deeper inspiration here though is that god don't like no bad sax! ;-)
