Leviathan's sleep with single lidded eye to keep smoke from the tallow's flame as the moon bowed down to acclaim a Goddess dancing beneath the mask of Summers name
I just thought that I would write how I was feeling about finding true love. And end up with this.

Iron body Rough to touch Encrusted Cold Stands Motionless Clints at the waters edge As dancing waves Baths laps Its cast iron feet Motionless It waits For tides turn For once again he hides beneath The waters tide Unseen

In the longevity of my years, I have witnessed the bemused tears of womanhood, who with love, conceived, nurtured in their wombs, endured the rigours of childbirth, then with unconcealed care and devotion guided them into adulthood, then our political war lords, conscripted their vibrant youth to the slaughterhouse of war, dare I ask, just how is it that womanhood has allowed this to happen?

I worked in Zambia for 6 weeks. The only things I took back to the UK were the clothes I wore. Many people have helped but not enough. I came home knowing that the Colonial days were much better for the people. Today we see the wars that I saw in the eyes of a child's desperation. My guess is that the boy is dead. in 1980 men lived to an average age of 35.........He would be about 41 Wars rage all over Africa. I did little more than write a poem
In 1980 I flew to Zambia. In fact then and now I fly often enough to experience emergencies. In 1980 considered what could happen. I prepared myself by writing this poem.
We enjoyed a regular late bar with about 10 pals gathered. My observations were accurate but I continued my friendship. If there were more than 3 people he never bought a round. He retired early 25 years ago. I never saw him after. He will not have changed. He always said as he entered the bar:- " Times are hard and friends are few "

Although this contains excerpts from my life, the theme of the poem is not about me. I wrote it to show respect to people who slip into deep depression and become totally disconnected from normal living.
