Flirting

That I could feign to make a sportive play
Or when I think a girl could be serious
Perhaps coming after feelings of dismay
Or last girlfriend becoming deleterious
So we broke up, and do then as we may
Her subtle signs becoming more mysterious
You or I have now said something wrong
Romantic visions I now put into song.

Sweet girl, I'd gone and left you for another
Sometimes large waves can from a ripple build
Routine can sometimes a first passion smother
Fires in other hearts are quickly kindled
Just maybe the next girl will make me bolder
Sometimes it seems so strong is now her will
Love first love now before it slips away
Or last love now - and come whatever may.

And nothing scandalous if not salacious -
For sometimes we must make our feelings plain
A compromise is sometimes deemed most gracious
Or being left to stand there in the rain.
Within a generous heart, her love is spacious
I caught your look of passion on a train
And at the times we feel our most forlorn
Love will save us - if love we do not scorn.

What Makes a Woman Beautiful?

Beauty, its said
Comes from the soul
From within.

Those soul-mirrors
The eyes.

Her body may be old
The light of her beauty
Is in her eyes.

The curve of her lips
The dance
From within.

The flame of a passion
Long extinguished
From her youth
Still dances in her eyes.

Compassion
Acceptance
True beauty
From within.

Food for Lovers

Love's food tonight? - the substance of your caress; -
If substance abuse, - then guilty - I confess!
Not much that I can say - so please take heed -
Your female essence - is the substance of my need.

I sometimes kiss when to a kiss responded
(Not that we much before long corresponded)
In the old days - when meeting at a pub
Then mutual trust was considered good enough.

What can I say? At twenty and at thirty
Natural introduction wasn't dirty.
A tavern with a few drinks was affection -
(This is true to the best of my recollection).

That is foreplay with alcohol I must say
Potent deceiver and giver of dismay; -
Although by chance on destiny's right path
A few drinks were considered good enough.

Not too much - and certainly - not too little
Girls want confidence - her man not belittle
At first herself, she wants confidence from him
And to know she's loved - and most of all by him.

The chaos and the turmoil of our world -
Where people sell for money their own soul; -
Though not for me approaches such as these
Tonight I'll give you girl your trembling knees.

A stranger's heart that sweetest mystery -
I'll spend my last dollar with you to be free; -
Your place or mine and not to be particular
Horizontal now in bed - not perpendicular.

Women know when they are loved its true -
I'm hard sometimes - though tender now with you.
Sweetest girl - I lap now all your honey; -
Affection's gift; - worth much more than money.

The honey of your love is sweet affection; -
Giving me esteem; - and self-direction.
And in the morning - if I have met your needs; -
I'll treasure that one night - in memories.

Residential School Fun

She saw me walk into a morning lecture
Though at the time I was so unaware.
(I didn't know how I did affect her
As I strolled in that day without a care).
Circumstances - so it seemed - now perfect were
(Like a rabbit in a trap she set a snare)
Then found me in the bar that afternoon
And made her feelings plain then in a swoon.

So who was I to resist unto now?
Some things are perfect - as you soon will see.
Events which I'm relating now (and how)
Extra curricular our activity.
This stories true - this I will avow
(And such it seems is my proclivity).
She introduced herself, her feelings plain
Said she wanted to f*ck me - her name? - Lorraine*

I asked what she was drinking, and she said:
"It's rum and coke, and double - if you please"
The look now in her eyes it spoke of bed
And set a fire in my heart with greatest ease.
The rings on her fingers showed she was wed
(This didn't stop her being such a tease).
My hand got busy under the table -
Soon we are both willing and quite able.

With a figure full - just about mid thirty
Strawberry blonde her hair to shoulder length.
We continued thus growing now more flirty
I felt a rush of blood in giddy strength.
Please don't condemn my poetry as dirty
(I must write on before my talents spent).
Before you say that I'm such a bad bloke
Just read the rest of this - my anecdote.

The University, it was at Wagga **
And students were from Australia wide.
She told me that her husband often flogged her
(I saw the hint of tears now in her eyes).
I have no guilt if so he did mistreat her
(She must have felt much safer by my side).
Bastards, there are with no respect for women -
As low as they come - and all too common.

What happened next there's no surprise for guessing
Her room was ten short minutes' walk away.
The story that I am now here confessing
Must happen to someone most ev'ry day.
Morality I am not here addressing
Will I repent? I must say now: no way!
She lead me to her room, took off her rings
And placed them by the bed with other things.

I can't respect a man who hurts a woman
The "man" who thinks it's his almighty right
To get drunken as a sot and become wanton
Then bring his strength unequal to the fight.
If she could leave him then I said she should then
(Though with me all she wanted was one night).
We interlaced our fingers now sans rings
She told me that she came from Alice Springs. **

Is this what they mean by s*xual healing?
When two souls get comfort in a troubled World.
It would happen less if men they had more feeling
Women are not chattels bought and sold.
These sad facts are those with which I'm dealing
(Her husband is most deserving to cuckold).
I sometimes think how unhappily she wed
To someone most unfit to share her bed.

Young Lovers

Two lovers came upon a woody brake
And entered there within - their leave to take
Across their heads a bow of leafy briar
Which interlaced below a bright blue sky.

Nature had there formed a perfect cradle -
Cover to young love was thus enabled
Bees were buzzing 'midst the loaded flowers
Where these lovers spent long drowsy hours.

For spring had burst through shoots and within leaves
With gentle mockery season deceives
And playing now with fancy on a breeze
They kissed and felt delight in trem'bling knees.

Where coarse emotions were - some even base
Now love and winged poesy took their place
The verse of these two hearts - was subtle - calm
And their spirits - were - each other's balm.

So if you ever see young lovers - going
Into the forest - or some shady dell
Bless them in your heart - and just remember
That we were once young lovers there as well.

A Gem (sonnet)

A gem's a stone that's rare, but cold inside; -
A true gem's in the heart the other hides.

When we find that rare one who understands,
Then we are privy to those exotic lands.

No one can define this thing called "love"
That strangest feeling, sent from up above.

A diamond's cold with all its many facets;-
More beauteous a woman in her assets.

No one knows the time we have on Earth -
Be kind to the other one - they also hurt.

Look beyond the ring;- find that precious sparkle -
Find true wealth; - before we meet death's darkness.

Then fear not "Father Time"; - he can't take it all away; -
For we are in each other's arms for an eternity.

My Online Girl

Are you online girl? I've waited for so long
(And I couldn't sleep in the small hours).
I want you girl - and I know right from wrong -
To write these words and trust now in their powers.
In cyberspace, I hope you read this song
And that you received my virtual flowers.
To feel the yearning for my poetry's -
Caress upon your neck - a summer breeze.

For now dear girl - I write this just for you
And send my love out on a virtual tide
Could something that we both want now come true?
(I hope and wait only for your reply).
Girls like you aren't many - indeed are few
For seldom can we find true destiny:-
I live in hope - and hope to realize
That little spark of life now in your eyes.

I send a whitest dove unto to your heart
My little message, winged, thither goes
For this, to work, we both must play our part
(Or find our love quick covered in Winter snows).
Now writing as a poet, I must depart -
I hope this finds you well - (only she knows) -
Perhaps this verse of love returns your grace: -
I await your reply in cyberspace.

In your flat

The time ticks past so slowly in your flat,
And sometimes I just long for some sleep waiting;
For you to come home, and tell me where your day
Has taken you - and where your at

Each moment seems compressed though time is flying
In your world there's so much rest and so much healing
Of loneliness, where longings no more leaving
It's words of guilt, that leave us searching, pleading

Times when woman cry - softly keening
She hopes her man gets back before this evening
And it seems that while I write this time is fleeting
And I hear a sighing ocean in the distance

Not far away a lonely cove lies waiting
Rills of waves the mornings sunshine kisses
With flecks of gold, this not yet ruined world,
Before it sinks in black before this evening

A great sleep that must still come is nearing
So much of this life is merely dreaming
I wrote this to you late - just last evening
When the end of day falls black and bitter seething

Unlike that bliss where two hearts share true feeling
This affection - memories of our love don't lie
We kissed to close the gap - a secret meeting -
And still I wait for you in this cold flat
That's not so cold, for I know in the morning
Love's valediction rose brings its true meaning

About this poem:
Here I have tried to capture something of the nature of the existential loneliness which can occur between man and woman.

Robyn (one night stand)

Why does it seem students are always poor?
Studying (as I was) both science and maths
And like some kind of universal law
Scholars walk on impecunious paths;-
Correctly - poverty - we should abhor-
So I turn my verse (instead) to other stuff:-
Having got - that night - enough drinking money
T'was time to go out then - in search of honey.

Out (that night) at Rockdale* - Spanky's Nightclub
And once again I thought I'd try my luck;-
Another year - almost gone - and here's the rub:
T'was about a year since I'd had a f*ck.
With no wish to stay at home in my suburb
(I thought it overdue to break my duck)
Being young at the time (twenty or so)
And at that age were always on the go.

So to the point: I came upon the tavern -
As Titan's rays were fading in the sky
When affections young its often craven
(Though in my case - because I am quite shy)
Summer heat hung ominous that eve'ning
(I crossed into the pub then anyway)
Stepping into said - (from its threshold)
Therein - a raucous view - I did behold.

Typical Aussie pub Saturday night -
After a beer (or six) I felt relaxed;
And being more inclined to f*ck than fight-
Surveyed the scene for a likely prospect,-
There in the corner (much to my delight)
A lady larger - than I might expect -
I admit the circumstance was not refined -
And neither were (perhaps) my pick-up lines.

After some small talk (that's the hardest part)
Fumbling our way through the introductions
We need to find a time then to depart:-
(Timings all important in seductions -
And leaving at the right time is an art).
She told me her name was Robyn (and that's when)
I hoped that I had made my feelings plain; -
She said I had - and that she lived in Engadine.**

Friends of hers (a couple) did the driving
So south we traveled - I was innocent
Of what this trio may have been contriving
Group situations? - (not expecting this intent)
Here I'd better continue my explaining
Of how the rest of this (a hot night) went:-
Suffice to say a good time was had by all -
One couple per bed (I add now) and withal.

My self at twenty - Robyn ten years older
And a notch on the belt: - experience!
Then I felt fantastic - and grew bolder
(Though at the time a loss of common sense).
Thus lover-bards throughout their lives must soldier
Not declining or refusing any wench; -
And in this age of overt (and crude) pornography -
Be grateful: - you have my cultured poetry.

Why I Love Girls

First blossom and first love are beautiful
To see affection in my girlfriend's eyes
Like flowers on a bush are plentiful
Although - amidst - a few thorns did arise.
Growing in confidence - though still bashful
We think first loves - perfection realized -
From my pen - this poetry - now unfurls
As I try to explain why I love girls.

I don't write here to talk about a fling
Or our first faltering indiscretions
But of the kind of love that will take wing -
(What teachers can't explain in lessons).
Now any kind of loves a funny thing
And it is blind and heedless of directions -
More so when we are young - it's free and feckless
Not conscious of itself - so wild and reckless.

A few years on and how do I compare -
What once had been so innocent and free?
When we broke up all was a black despair;
Till I saw other girls surrounding me -
Other maidens - blonde - brunette - and so fair -
(Though it is true that "all is vanity")
I could see the most sensible directive -
Was held by those with feminine perspective.

Go forward a few more years yet again
From this bountiful cornucopia
What some call affection - no one can explain -
Compared with first love's bright utopia.
Still, I need love - like a desert needs rain -
Any girl you have you make the most of her -
For all are beautiful in their own way
And when the sun is shining - go make hay.

Every native blossom has its tree
And every human soul a counterpart -
What's wrong for you - may be just right for me
And vice a versa (until death we part)
Every woman has a kind of beauty -
Be she virtuous - or be she a tart -
From my pen -this poetry - has unfurled -
I hope this explains why I love girls.
