My song

I felt a poem in me
Growing like a tree
Wild and free
At the very edge
Where words emerge
To the croon
Of a gentle tune
Despite the winter cold
And crazy world
With swaying
Branches of words
And singing birds
Rehearsing my song
All day long

A little bird

Caged in the house
Like a lonely princess
In the grim castle
I strain my ears to hear
“Knock, knock!”
Is he there yet?

Spring is going wild outside
Buzzing and blooming
A little bird
Keeps coming back
To knock on my window
And chirp

I do not know his language
But it sounds like
“Get out, stupid!”

sea of keels

heaven knows
and heaven tries
unpick the wrongs you've done
unpick the lies

cos you don't know
how it feels
trudging through a day
in a sea of Atlantic keels

if I had an aeroplane
if I had things
Id fly to the Arctic
just to cool my wings

I'd go to your house
just for the day
and I build me hammock
in your hair and sway..

If I had an aeroplane

well heaven knows
and heaven lies
there's an undiscovered
shade of brown
in your Hazel eyes

but you don't know
how that goes
how the earth.. changes pitch
when it feels your toes

If I had an aeroplane
if I had wings
Id fly past every weaknesses
to a place of Kings

I'd fly down to Mexico
just to surf the truth
and my board would be the promises
that I made in youth

but my boat is older
and my dreams ain't new
so I dive in the bitter swell
and I dream of you

the perfect woman

say it in a sequence
of silent lullabies
say it in the echoed
phrases of goodbye

say it a way
that one day makes me care
say it so I kayak
through the rapids of your hair

say it without speaking
without thought or conscious guile
say it in a fraction
of the whole that makes you smile

say it loud in quiet halls
without worry or concern
say it in a foreign tongue
the one I'd never learn

say it by the way you walk
by the way your hips block light
say it by a waking kiss
in the middle of the night

say it as a tidal surge
impossible to curb
say it by actions only..
we both know love's a verb

The Old October Sky

Sitting still under a crimson tree
Casting my eyes over the great marsh
Now wrapped in a shrouded mist
Out past some long river’s mouth
Where large clusters of black clouds
Go racing by perpetually fast
And under the old October sky
The dusk and frost await their freedom
From the vanishing summer sun

October…. The Goddess

Those golden suns and purple leaves
And shadows creeping long and lonely
From scenes of many happy dreams
In fields full of fragrant stars and asters
October like a goddess of ancient splendor
Comes riding down the mountainside
Reflecting waves of spectacular color
Dancing delightfully in her eyes

The Last Leaf

Walking in the autumn sun
A touch of cold in the air
Waiting leaves one by one
Fall to the ground unaware

Past the white picket fence
Nothing can stop their fall
Downward will commence
The last golden kiss of all

Tossed in a growing breeze
They tussle with our mind
As gentle as a feather please
Will rests with all its kind

Till a gentle snow will come
Pressing and matting down
Begin to fade and glum
Will soon become all brown

Then only a few still cling
Such that rattle in the night
When a soft breeze bring
An end to all their plight

BACKGROUNDS OF GREEN.

Hints of green, sway in the breeze
gentle and fragile, thoughts tease
Winter ends, as buds burst forth
Seasonal proof, we're well on course

Lifting spirits, with bright skies ahead
Sun is warming, dormant flower beds
Colour will herald, vibrations of spring
Allowing natural pleasure, emotions sing

Chill after dark, our patience is taught
Nature not for sale, cannot be bought
So every morning, we welcome a new day
Lightness develops, soon forgotten drab grey

Soon to be discarded, heavy weights of cloth
Replaced by light cottons, the flutter of moth
Until beautiful Butterflies, add to the scene
Colour spectacular, on background of green

Nature

Drawn by natures warm embrace
You walk the path lightly used by those before
Passing creatures held by your grace
Scolding, wary, hiding behind the green door.

The path defined by old oak trees
Arms reaching, you know you’re home
Whispered welcomes on a gentle breeze
Scents waking memories of home

Peace wrapping your troubled heart
Caressing soothing calming your soul
Serenity slowly plays it's healing part
Despair fading as nature does console

The spirit of nature makes reality fade
Taking the worries from your thoughts
Guiding you to the house in the glade
Full of memories and pleasant thoughts

You reach for the door and it opens wide
With each breathe you sense the calm
A crackling fire invites you inside
To sit at the table and bathe in the balm

While the birds sing a serenade to you
And quiet descends upon the glen
And tears on your cheeks like morning dew
Wash away the fears within

At last your soul no longer aching
As you walk along the river shore
Where ancient trees have been waiting
For you to visit them once more

To sit beside the trees so green
Hidden deep inside your heart
Where the animals and evergreens
Hum ever gently to your heart

And you look about and she is there
Reaching out to take your hand
So you smile and without a care
Slowly stand to take her hand

Together you stroll the river shore
Walking the trail you knew was there
Laughing as in years before
Death has come so rest forevermore

About this poem:
Except for perhaps some edits later on IT IS COMPLETE. I thought I would post a poem as I was writing so you could watch the process. I hope you enjoy how the poem takes on a life of it's own. Edits will happen often as well as the addition of Stanzas so check back often. I will post a comment with every edit. I hope you have enjoyed accompanying me on this journey. It has been fun for me. Let me know perhaps I will do this again sometime in the future.

surf

I'd rather go home
and live up a tree
than to be dry forever
and forget the 'ol sea

and I'd rather go hungry
than eat on the street
than miss every wave
and places they meet

I'd rather live in a hole
and stare at the stars
than live in the veins
of buses and cars

and I'd rather leave you
than live in the town
where the air is a stranger
and you wear the 'ol frown

I'd rather not laugh
if the cost was too much
If I never felt salt
in the places we touch

and I'd rather take truth
that a palace of lies
as time is an arrow
and flawless she flies

I'd rather hold you
than own your whole soul
and I'd rather go hungry
than live on the dole

and I'd rather grow old
that to be young in chains
as the sea has my heart
and it always remains
