My song

I felt a poem in me
Growing like a tree
Wild and free
At the very edge
Where words emerge
To the croon
Of a gentle tune
Despite the winter cold
And crazy world
With swaying
Branches of words
And singing birds
Rehearsing my song
All day long

2020 vision

It takes a virus
To screw the world
A 2020 vision
Of how the year rolled

We became aware
Of the Covid
Spreading through air
On the waves of scare
And had to adapt
To new routines
Such as lockdowns
And quarantines
The fever of fear
Has fogged our mind
It was going crazy
From feeling confined
Not to mention
The daunting task
Of wearing a mask with style
To hide
That happy contagious smile

Things may get better
One day
Pay some attention
To what news have to say
Fresh out of trials
Vaccine is on its way
So get ready
To roll up your sleeves
Or when in doubt
Stock up
On supplements and vitamins

No matter what the trend
We’ve got our circle of
Virtual friends

I Cut My Wrists

I cut my wrists,
To show who I am,
If you don't like it,
I don't give a damn!!
I cut my wrists,
But not with pride,
You should have told me the truth,
But instead you lied.
I cut my wrists,
To me it feels good,
I wish someone understood,
I wish my best friends would.
I cut my wrists,
Whether I'm mad or depressed,
I do it not to please me,
I just live with to much stress.
I cut my wrists,
And though when I'm done,
I do not feel good inside,
I sometimes wish...
I'de cut deep enough to die!!

About this poem:
I don't do this anymore, but when i did it was a very depressing part of my life. People think about it all the time they just dont act on it. This is what i felt like when i was doing it... My life is differant now, i may not be the happiest person out there but i know that is not the way to handle stress, I have 2 wonderfull daughters to look out for now, and i want to be here for them while they grow up...

Love Lost

Words left unspoken, lost somewhere in time
Visions of yesterday remain in my mind
Silently I cry, for my thoughts I must hide
years gone by, feelings denied
Why must love end with such pain and sorrow
For the love that we shared was filled
with hope and dreams of tomorrow
How can we destroy the lives that we touch
and continue to say, that "I love you so much”
Could it be that with love
we create our "Hell"
breaking the hearts of those that we tell
For the love you are given, a price you must pay
you will be broken, your love thrown away

Halloween Challenge Reply

May the ghosts that rise to meet you
Just be the kids from down the street
May all the monsters at your door
Be there to trick-or-treat
May the eerie glow
You see at night
Be jack-o'-lanterns grinning

And, above all,
Hope the day is happy-
Right from the beginning!

Love Island

LOVE ISLAND

Beyond my reach to this love island
I castaway my dreams of capture,
To a forgotten place.
No one live on Love island
Except the shadows of dreams
Like a mirror glaring up at the sun.
It cracks the blue sapphire waves.
Beyond my reach
Like turquoise in the glistening sun.
I.feel the heat about to burst open.
To heal my broken ??.heart.
Before I wake up
To start again another dream of being captured to heal my ruthless ?? heart.

A Cowboy's Night Before Christmas

'Twas that 'ol Night before Christmas and all the ponies had been fed,
I was tryin' to choke down some beans before headin' off to bed
But my belly was a' churnin' bad , it just wouldn't sit still
It was goin' to be a long night, I could sure 'nuff tell.

'Cause in my string of horses, there was one called 'Ol Saint Nick
And thinking' about riding' him, was makin' me quite sick.
'Ol Flipper had come in with a front leg a ' draggin', last Fall during shippin' season, when we was out there on the wagon.

'Ol Saint Nick was an extra in the outfit's remuda, an' every time you got gettin' on him he'd be sure to give a gift to 'ya.That gift was a danged 'ol bronc ride, an I don't mean no 'hoppin'. You see, he's pure sin covered lightnin', that'll get your ears to poppin'.

But the boss cut him to me that's just kinda part of the deal, Flipper got turned out for the whole winter just to heal. I thought it kinda funny that it's Nick's turn to go with me out checkin' heifers, the next day in the snow.

So I lay there in my bedroll, with the fireplace a 'crackin, had terrible nightmares 'bout my poor neck a' snappin'. So I woke up at midnight, and again at two-thirty, I decided to saddle up 'Nick this time a little early. I thought I'll set him to soak with the cinches pulled up tight, come daybreak that'll help to take out some of that dad gummed fight.

Finally got 'im saddled, out there in the dark, it really was like hand feeding breadcrumbs to a shark. Finally went inside to wash the blood offa my head and got to see how much the blood had turned my white shirt red.

I'd just laid down to rest and closed my eyes when I awoke to such a racket, I stumbled up quickly and pulled on my denim jacket. As I walked out to the horse pens, the moon lit up the stage, those icicles shone so bright, on that high-desert sage.

Out in the big pen, on a fresh carpet of white, my eyes took in the most amazing thing, the most unbelievable sight. Saint Nick was making' a wild, crooked leap. with a pot bellied feller sittin' up there in the seat. He'd throwed up his head with one hand up in the air, Saint Nick touched the ground and growled just like a bear!

He'd just jump sideways as he chewed up on a foot, the red fuzzy coat popped out some chimney soot! He'd showed me his belly and stood him on his head, I noticed the fat fellers cheeks a 'turnin' a little red.

Saint Nick finally winded and throwed his head up, started licking' his lips all over, like an old an' gentle pup. The rider stepped down and handed me the reins I noticed in his mouth a broken candy cane. That's when it finally hit me , as my mind started to click. I've just seen 'Ol Saint Nick Himself ride 'ol hoss Saint Nick!

Then I noticed his team and a little red sleigh, you see, his reindeer were hobbled and eatin' on some hay.

He said "Merry Christmas,
Hope that present will do,
I knocked some of the rough off
That 'ol pony just for you".

Then he buttoned his coat and walked away
Unhobbled the reindeer
And climbed up into his sleigh
I heard him exclaim as he headed back North
"I ain't never seen nothin' buck like that 'ol horse!"

About this poem:
A new poem as has been requested. :-D cowboy I'd had this one in the pipeline for quite a while as it was re-told to me recently by a local cowboy who emphatically swore up and down that this actually happened to him out West. . This is my interpretation (which I shared with him and he absolutely loves by the way) and now with you, Dear Reader. cowboy

Upon the Air of Halloween

When witches go riding
And black cats are seen,
The moon laughs throatily
'Tis near Halloween

When you're all alone in the country
And the night is dark as pitch
Just be bold 'cause you've been told
There's no such thing as a witch.

Howdy everyone, old and new! cowboyBoy, have I missed you old members! hug

I'm ReaderOfSouls for you new to the Poetry Corner. :-) I'm a Texas ranch raised, working horse and cattle ranch owner/operator who proudly served our military and I am a detective with my local County Sheriff's Department. I specialize in Child Sex Crime, so I have seen the worst of the worst and it's all gritty and grim. Having a positive, happy attitude has not only helped, but I just can't help but share it with all that I meet. I choose to not live in darkness.:-) I'm strong, tough but fair. I'm more than happy to listen to someone and my mailbox here is always open. :-) I've been writin' poetry since I was 8 years old and customarily write Cowboy Poetry. I've competed at Cowboy Gatherings and rodeos and my biggest poetry influences are Badger Clark (which also happens to be a familial name) and Baxter Black. I've been 'hitched' to my better half- Mr. Bear for 29 years now. He has written some work about love and life that I have posted through my account here. :-) I occasionally write a bit of descriptive cowboy humor as you will find in the vast catalogue of my writings. :-)

I look so forward to meeting you all and to re-connect with all of those familiar. cowboy

Old Friends

Old friends.....
Getting old together in the forum as a mass
Years and years gone by and by so fast
They are still waiting and keeping their faith
That one day their soulmates will come up

Old friends.....
Talking in polite words in the forum to each other is a must
But you won't know if they are back stabbers behind their masks
they talk about each other in silent roads
Only their loyal followers who know the codes

old friends...
You are wasting your time in this fake world
Where everything seems promising and blooming
Or is it just your way to run away from your lonely life ?
Where there is no country for old men
Just like the title of a movie
What a cruel reality
