I read an article where people said if their dog didn't like who they were dating, they would growl, or avoid them, etc, even tho the dogs were usually friendly. Later, the person learned that their date was a total loser. One woman said she brought a date home & her dog was crazy about the guy. They later married & had a good, lasting relationship. Am wondering if anyone else ever had this sort of experience. Would you let your dog choose your partner; or at least observe your dogs response to your date?
A dog or cat is very possessive and protective of you and your family... i started dating this guy and brought my dog on one of our outings... she would not stop barking at his every move.... turn out he was not who he said he was... my mother had tenants and when they came over the dog went nuts in growling and barking ,... turns out they were arrested later on for drug dealing... my sisters dog would wine and wag her tail like crazy when my sisters bo would come over ... the dog loved the guy to death... they did get married.... so yeah i 'd watch my pets reaction on whom ever enters your house or if your interested in someone just like your kids will have that same reaction ...
tomcatwarne: I don't know about dogs but my cat makes up to anyone, rubbing around their ankles tail in the air, maybe she needs a dog to suss people out for her
My dog was dumb and wagged at anyone. She was not to be trusted at making smart decisions.
However, the cats are much smarter. If when a woman comes here they all run and hide and don't come out for several hours after she has left, I trust their judgment. If on her first visit the cats come to greet her, I know this one will be okay. So far the cats have never steered me wrong.

Dogs are excellent "people detectors."
It makes a little bit of sense - that animals - dogs (which are pack animals) have the extra sense to see and smell more than what we humans can detect. However, on the same note - if a woman has a male dog that behaves has tho he is the next in the pecking order and then along comes another "male" to challenge his place in the household - there is likely to be a bit of growling and .....
on the other note - it is an excellent way to weed out sociopaths.

Sadly yes and I see myself being single a long time
I use to have an old dog that loved everyone. One day this man stopped by and she would not let him get close to me whilst talking to me. Later on I seen where he had been arrested for a home invasion a few doors down. Now who would of thought. I do live in a good neighborhood. Was she sensing something. Or was it just a fluke?
My dogs seem to love all people, especially men. I think for one of them, at least, it is because my ex would throw a ball for him to fetch until the dog had to lie down to rest. The ex also brought them big bones home from the restaurant where he worked, and fed them scraps when he was cooking at home. And the ex was not a trustworthy person! Dogs can be bribed!
JeanKimberley: sadly the poor brute died of cancer a few years back..... I loved that dog - he was very protective - allowed me to take walks late at night -
I am almost ready for another pooch - I do like those big dogs - maybe I will choose a bull mastiff next pet?
and women's too! there is something about an animal that can give unconditional love..... and doesn't talk back and you don't have to wash his socks.....

I dunno about that. I had a dog who had to wear socks for a while.
