For all those that enjoy Christmas I am pleased for them and I hope they have a great time. As for me, like many, being alone, it does lose its impact and I personally do not celebrate it. If I had a partner in life then I would see it as another day to spoil her.
I like to spend Christmas with my family and put my feet up.
I do start thinking about (in general) what happens should my mum not be around anymore - I have a good relationship to my siblings and their kids, but going home probably wouldn't be the same and I wouldn't do it as often.
I'm making sure I can live with it someday. I don't know about Christmas, but spending it in Ireland with friends going out on the 24th (that's when we celebrate) would be ok. I would find it hard to sit home on my own.
I had a very good meal. Stuffed like a goose actually. Then I got nice gifts too. So what is there not to like about a day when folks feed you and give you nice things too?
Every holiday is commercialised nowadays, but it is up to you what you put into it. I love Christmas and I make sure it is all about family and good time spent together. And if you feel it is just about money spending ...well, you can only blame yourself for that...
