V, well it was in the papers yesterday that they're not even testing NHS staff let alone members of the public, the advice if you get it is stay inside and self islolate, don't visit a doctor or hospital until you're at death's door, so how could people be tested
MarkOpolloa, I think it true to say we've yet see the truth about anything coming from any communist country, and I doubt China and the virus are any exception, easy example that springs to mind is the USSR and Chernobyl.
Molly, really..... but then I suppose it's easier there as there's only about 100 of you living there
I'd put money on it they're not, way to expensive and to what end, by the time it's out in the population it's too late, can you imagine a desk at work and every morning someone drops several thousand files a day on it and says solve them today........
beppe101, I can't speak for Italy as I don't know for sure, but most counties gave up tracing contact weeks ago, it became pointless as the potential numbers are huge and how do you trace complete strangers who only interact for a few seconds.
beppe101, yes I can see where you're coming from but as I say no country is yet testing everyone with symptoms, it's too slow and expensive, best guess is they only know about one in ten cases, so if you multiply your start figure by 10 then the death rate doesn't look so bad
beppe101, don't panic that's not the real figure, sounds to me like the cases verses dead figure, but that doesn't take into account the vast majority of people get it, stay home, get better and never get tested, so never make it to those figures, they reckon about one in ten that have it/had it have been tested, so if you divide that figure by ten or so that'll bring you close
Bogart, don't even mention sneezing round here, despite it not being a symptom anyone sneezing is bound to find an armed guard outside their door to keep them in
Oh and the petrol station has become self service (in case you stand too near the attendant no doubt), I haven't put petrol in my own car for 17 years lucky I remembered how to do it.
First trip into infected territory completed, paranoia reigns out there on the way in I saw a man driving his van, on his own, with a full respirator covering his face Maybe V and Riz are right about panic, quite how he thought he could be infected alone in his van is beyond me, and getting through the checkout at the supermarket without coming within a metre of the cashier has to be seen to be believed, it was like the Chinese puzzle where you have move pieces around to end up in a certain spot I'd only gone a few hundred metres from my house when I spotted the lockdown infringement, German neighbours both traveling in the same car, well rules don't apply to Germans but I have to report toilet rolls are available in Motril, for those who can still get through their front door for stacks of them piled in the hallway
Ok, preparing to venture out into zombie land (shopping), got my passport for the police but must dig out my tape measure to make sure I don't get closer than a metre to anyone else
At least the UK government is sort of following their own rules, only 17 of them allowed into the commons for PM's question time, but why do I get the feeling the other 600 odd will be crammed into the commons bar
Red, I don't have annual figures for flu to hand, I know they're quite high but nothing like the 250k estimate for this unchecked. Good news about the shops, you might even get to meet someone there
V, something the UK government is more afraid of that the virus is waiting in the wings should they try and shut down any freedom of speech/the press Nigel Farage is waiting for a direct for his new party
V, there's two ways of looking at media panic, in this case my view is that we needed a bit of panic or the "it's just the flu" brigade would have lulled the populous into a false sense of security
RE: Opting out of the virus panic should be an option
Riz, I imagine the last place you'd want to be stuck in is Dubai, I imagine that could work out very expensive
