RE: Another Illegal Effort by Trump

There are lots of grocery shops open every day and there are still queues.

Trying to process everyone who has been allowed to vote and wishes to do so whilst still maintaining social distancing in one day would require an extraordinary number of polling stations.

The alternative is that only a very small minority of people get to vote. They will be the people who are physically able to queue without needing to use a restroom for the best part of a day, those who can get childcare, those who will get a paid for vacation day, or don't need that day's pay and those who aren't at risk of losing their jobs if they miss a day.

It will mostly exclude poor people, women, and people of colour who have historically had to fight to get the vote. It's regressing to a time when only a privileged few had voting rights and were represented by government.

RE: You do not meet her contact requirements

This woman is doing no harm by recognising her practical limitations, perhaps quite the opposite.

Why do you want to control other people's belief systems, if they do no harm?

RE: Another Illegal Effort by Trump

It was Prof. Carol Anderson, LaFonda.

RE: I served my country

Noted Mic, thankyou for the information.

RE: Another Illegal Effort by Trump

No, a black Labrador cross called Sigmund. giggle

RE: Another Illegal Effort by Trump

I tried to read Mein Kampf once, but it was so vacuous and cringe worthy, I didn't get very far.

Then my dog ate it. dancing dog

RE: I served my country

I couldn't agree with that more, Mic.

That's why memorial day should be about how it came to pass, as well as those who passed.

RE: "GROWING UP IS HARD TO DO"

I wonder how many ICU workers would like a couple of days off to play golf.

Or sleep.

RE: I served my country

I'm not a great fan of armed combat, but if ever there was a time it was justified, it was WWII.

The fact that it was based upon conscription only leaves me more in awe of the ordinary people like your brother, Ooby, who were so extraordinary and brave in their service to humankind.

The chances of your brother and my mum having crossed paths is probably quite slim, but it was American soldiers who filled her mug with soup. She was too malnourished to eat it all at once, so my grandmother would reheat it bit by bit for her.

RE: Coming or going?

I slept awkwardly and now I have a crick in my neck...?

RE: I served my country

PS. My mum was thrilled when the American soldiers arrived in Germany. She probably wouldn't have lived much longer if they hadn't.

RE: "AN INSANE LIFE"

That jst reminds me of how many sit ups I need to do, Mic. laugh

RE: Coming or going?

But 'whom' is such a beautiful word, perhaps only surpassed by 'whomsoever'. laugh

Where, wear, we're, their, there, they're - I know the difference in my dyslexic heart, but they're still back-stabbing vipers that I sometimes only spot after I've posted.

RE: "AN INSANE LIFE"

Thankyou, Mic.

I've used that one many a time and like it a lot.

I started listening to splendid weather sounds a couple of summers ago when the temperatures were in the insufferable 20C's. I found my body temperature would drop the moment I put it on and instantly rise the moment I turned it off.

I played that game for a while, marvelling in the capacity of the human mind.

Drowning out my tinnitus was a welcome by product, but I found it was a bit like drugs: I started off with gentle rain, but ended up using dramatic thunder storms to satisfy my cravings. laugh

RE: Coming or going?

I have learnt well from learned professors.

RE: Coming or going?

No Merc, the Queen has more of a German accent than I.

(And I'm half German).

RE: Democrat Run States Sweep 8 Of The Top 10 State Death Rates From The Communist Chinese Virus

I didn't know the virus had political affiliation, nor did I ever consider that a vaccine might have to speak Putonghua.

You live and learn. dunno

RE: Coming or going?

RE: "AN INSANE LIFE"

I frequently forget to logout before I go to sleep.

I often keep my laptop on and play rain videos on youtube to drown out my tinnitus while I sleep.

I rarely logout during the day when I'm off doing things. I'll come back to dabbling on the blogs inbetween tasks so I don't feel like I'm the last human being left on the planet.

It's my deaf git version of having the TV, or radio on in the background.

RE: Coming or going?

Again, there's a difference between grammatical errors and writing in the vernacular.

'Would've' is vernacular, 'would of' is not only grammatically incorrect, but doesn't fully express colloquialism. That's the heinous and grating crime.

'Hisself' accurately reflects the spoken word, even if it's grammatically incorrect, as in: 'e sha' hi'self, din 'e?

RE: Coming or going?

Proof that too much CS is bad for your health, Molly.

I bet the WHO neglected that one in their consequences of Covid statistics.

RE: Coming or going?

Can you do 'would have', and 'would've', not 'would of', please?

RE: Somber

What was her name?

Got any photos, or stories to celebrate her life with?

RE: The Covid-19 Joke

I hope you don't mean me. I'm not orange. uh oh

RE: The Covid-19 Joke

No, it's not.

Even vaccines may only give partial immunity, you can still get the disease, but not as badly.

Some, like the 'flu vaccine have to be redeveloped every year to account for new, mutated strains.

So, antibodies from this novel corona virus may give total immunity, may give partial immunity to the same strain, or new strains may partially, or completely override any immunity.

Because it's a novel corona virus there is not enough data as yet to fully understand how it will behave. Initial evidence suggests that you can contract the disease more than once, but that the mutations are small/slow enough that they are not as devastating as they could be.

I think that would suggest that at some point it could behave like the common cold, or 'flu, but is unlikely to be eradicated like small pox.

In the meantime the goal is to not overwhelm healthcare services, to protect the most vulnerable people in society and to minimise the number of people who are permanently affected by the disease, suffer horribly, or die.

Obviously, that has to be balanced against the economy, people's livelihoods and other health issues. Given the delicacy of the situation, it doesn't help if people act recklessly ignoring social distancing and other preventative measures, or disseminating false information about guaranteed immunity.

RE: This Says It All

Cadaver, or live?

Is she on peritoneal, or haemodialysis?

RE: Older voters turning their backs on Trump

I heard he didn't get all that many votes last time.

When is the election? November?

That might be timed right so you're in your third wave of Covid lockdown. Only people in the Whitehouse will be tested and get away with going to a poll station with their ID and no mask.

RE: Older voters turning their backs on Trump

Trump might have killed off lots of the older people who voted for him four years ago, or maybe they're languishing in hospitals and care homes unable to voice an opinion.

RE: A story for you to finish (well out of comfort zone, call it a lockdown distraction)

A friend of mine once said to me, "You know the noise light bulbs make...?"

I think I might have laughed for a full ten minutes after that. I always thought they were a visual thing. laugh
