RE: Prone to recovery from COVID-19...

Hell yes, if only it were available.

Even if there were no guarantee that I'd be immune to getting it again, at least I'd know that I could breeze through it again.

As it is, I've no idea whether I had it, or had some other viral infection.

I've only left my flat to go grocery shopping, or walk on the mountain on my own, but I'm just a teeny bit worried I might have been incubating the virus for weeks. I've been so careful, much more careful than most, but I still could have spread it about.

On the other hand, thinking that I might have had it has left me feeling a bit more chilled about it all. Couple that with frothing at the mouth with isolation and no employment (I do not respond well to being out of work, even though I have studies and house renovations to keep me occupied) I can see how the idea of immunity certification could backfire.

RE: Where did the virus really come from???

It is of utmost importance to know the origins of the virus.

Whether it was the wet market, research lab, or some other source, how can we hope to prevent a similar pandemic without knowing how it started, or how it spread?

As for blaming countries, mud and rock are unlikely to be responsible.

It is likely, however, that there are lessons to be learned and that individuals are responsible for their actions.

If poor hygiene practise in wet markets, or research labs are the source, that needs to be tackled.

If poor handling has lead to more deaths than necessary, then that needs to be tackled.

Suing China is not about money, but about the first move in a game to stop this happening again. I don't think anyone realistically expects the Chinese government to cough up. I don't think it's likely that it will be transparent, either.

Legal action might set off civil unrest in China, however.

RE: Excuses...

The problem is not that Trump was thinking out loud, so much as Trump was not thinking out loud.

The loud bit is his lack of understanding of the situation, his inability to empathise and his need to worshipped as the hero saviour.

RE: The anything but Trump blog

RE: Forgiveness

Can you not see those same patterns of behaviour from Biden?

RE: The unfortunate TRUTH about the "so-called" president

Is that supposed to be funny, Cailin?

Or can you really not see the consequences of endorsing Biden over the rights of women and children?

RE: The unfortunate TRUTH about the "so-called" president

It's not just about one allegation, Jim.

It's about his behaviour, the videos, the pictures, the look on his face when he's touching, or got some woman on his lap.

If I saw someone who gave no signals and then an allegation was brought against them, I'd say I saw no indication of that kind of behaviour.

But I do see all the ingredients there.

I think other people do too, but they're ignoring it, covering up, keeping radio silence in some desperate bid to get Trump out.

It's sickening.

You're making as many excuses for Biden as others make for Trump and it's about as impressive.

RE: The unfortunate TRUTH about the "so-called" president

The chance of getting Trump out at the next election may have been blown by supporting Biden.

If Biden really cared about the nation, he would have resigned his position the moment legal steps were taken by Tara Reade.

The American people should have called for him to resign his position.

By ignoring the allegations and endorsing Biden, America has taken a huge risk and this is not the time to be taking risks.

RE: The Baker Act...

Don't you find that odd, Red?

A president in a public address misses the whole point of, and undermines, the previous speaker.

The previous speaker was providing information about hygiene practise to reduce the spread of the virus for those in essential roles and presumably with a view to managing reduced restrictions.

The president then acts like he's advising the scientific community by suggesting hygiene practise could be used internally as a cure.

For whatever reason, whether he has a very low level of intelligence, or is mentally ill in some way, he missed the plot publicly and bigly.

This is the man who has power over life and death and he's clearly bewildered and out of touch with reality.

RE: As a public service

On Wrinkly's blog covering the same topic I pointed to a couple of behaviour traits which are linked with Anti-Social Personality Disorder, or historically and more commonly referred to as psychopathy.

I would have been perhaps more accurate citing Narcissistic Personality Disorder, or better still the term malignant narcissism which includes traits of narcissism and psychopathy.

It's not about 'big baby Trump' having a fit and firing people.

It's about personality disordered Trump who has neurologic and cognitive deficiencies firing people.

It's not something he's going to grow out of, but grow into as he is enabled to do so.

RE: Harsh Reality

Our daily death toll seems to be coming down with a mere 449 people confirmed dead today.

We had five days where the death toll came down successively, it peaked again, but has been coming down again over the last three days.

The number of confirmed infections has been zig-zagging up and down since a peak 10 days ago, so we may be at a plateau of sorts.

If we are, that means the number of infections and deaths should go down in reverse decline. With the current death toll at 16,508, that would suggest an awful lot more losses even if we remain in lockdown.

Unless treatment practise has been refined and our besieged/fairly wonderful NHS are managing to get more people through the illness.

Whatever is going on, I'd be surprised if our restrictions are lifted in a fortnight's time. I imagine our NHS staff could do with a bit of respite before it all kicks off again.

RE: Harsh Reality

In the UK the death toll is deemed inaccurate.

The reported number of infections is based upon those who have been hospitalised. Those who are mildly, or moderately symptomatic are being advised to quarantine at home, but are not being tested.

Likewise, the death toll is largely based upon hospital deaths. Deaths which occur in the home, or in care homes are supposed to be reported weekly on a Tuesday, but I've not been noticing spikes on Tuesdays.

There have also been reports that some deaths recorded as being Covid-19 related are simply not making it to the daily collated statistics, perhaps because without testing prior to death, or post mortem examinations they are unconfirmed.

Your death toll may be more accurate than the number of infections, but it's still likely to be under-reported.

RE: How it could happen

May I make a suggestion, Palm?

Vote.

Many women before us fought and even gave their freedom, dignity and lives so we could be in a position to vote, to be treated like adult, autonomous human beings.

If there is no candidate who you feel will treat you like you are a human being, spoil your ballot paper: mark every box, scribble over it, write a message of your grievance, whatever.

Spoilt ballot papers get counted. It sends a message that you are willing to vote, but there is noone suitable, nor appropriate to vote for.

RE: How it could happen

Mic, Tara Reade took legal action, but the statute of limitations had already passed.

You are right, there will be no consequence for Biden, but it has nothing to do with evidence, or corroboration of evidence. It's because the statute of limitations means that too much time has passed for an investigation to even begin.

Play a game with me: why do you think someone would initiate legal proceedings that could not possibly come to fruition?

RE: How it could happen

My mum used to use the word 'luff' to describe something bland tasting, but I can only find nautical and urban definitions of the word.

My mum was wont to mispronunciations particularly with 'a' and 'u' sounds (those women, they are dressed like slugs!) as well as inserting German words into the English language.

I assume you meant the urban version of the word, but now I'm frustrated that I can't find the origin of the word 'luff' as I know it.

RE: How it could happen

Mic, the salient point was not the difference between 'allegations' and 'accusations', but whether claims of wrong-doing were made illegally.

RE: How it could happen

No, I haven't got my answer, Mic.

If allegations made against Trump and Biden are illegal, it puts a very different perspective on things. It may even turn my opinions around, I don't know.

I'd like to know which allegations were illegal.

RE: How it could happen

Okay, so Mic says 'allegations' and Jim says 'illegal accusations'.

They are two different things.

Can someone please explain 'illegal accusations' to me because I've been thinking in terms of allegations, accusations and legal process with respect to them.

RE: How it could happen

Just a slight bias towards letters rather than apostrophes would help, Chancer.

RE: How it could happen

I wasn't 'quirin' 'bout the primaries Mic, but when I said 'explain it to me like I'm a two year old', I meant explain it in a way a two year old could understand, not in the incomprehensible way a two year old speaks.

Dear god, someone take the...'...button away from Mic, please! doh

RE: How it could happen

Why do have such a big problem with explaining why accusations against both Trump and Biden are illegal and why Biden having one illegal accusation accusation against him is better than Trump having many with respect to which one you would vote for?

RE: How it could happen

Yes, it's still to challenging for me.

Please can you explain this statement to me:

RE: How it could happen

Explain it to me like I'm a two year old, then. dunno

RE: How it could happen

Are you familiar with that test?

RE: How it could happen

Could you explain this statement to me please?

RE: WHAT ARE WOMEN REALLY LOOKING FOR?

Your profile is overwhelming.

There is a lot of information there, some repeated. There are few full stops and paragraphs.

You mention being passionate and public displays of affection, but these positive attributes come across as clingy and demanding simply because you are demanding so much of your readers.

You mention that you have a neurologic disorder, but give no other information. Reading your profile, I'd wonder how that might affect a relationship (other than the low income), but I wouldn't mail to find out - I'd be putting myself in a position where I might have to reject you because it's more than I can deal with. It's far easier to reject you without contact and move on to the next profile.

Explain your neurologic disorder and the abilities you have. Your experience of life will be unique to you. What have you gained, what abilities, what understanding, what coping strategies?

You also have a lot in your profile about what you are seeking. Get rid of all of it. Be open to possibilities, like someone who is 29, or 46 years old. If you have a long list of arbitrary demands, women will deselect themselves without ever having written to you.
