RE: Hi! I got the vaccine yesterday, and...

It's the thought that counts, eh, not the the thing I left in her fridge that looked like a steak and kidney pie left over from WWII? giggle

RE: Hi! I got the vaccine yesterday, and...

Thanks for the video, Swamie. It was reassuring.

I'm not sure if the nurse aspirated the syringe, but judging by the discomfort in my shoulder and armpits, he well and truly got the vaccine into muscle tissue. laugh

It's extremely unlikely that I have a low platelet count and I don't take any medication which increases my risk of blood clots.

Bear in mind, all medications have risks and there's no guarantee that issues won't be indentified with the other brands as the vaccination programme continues.

RE: Negativity Is Toxic ( Poisonous)

Complaining about negativity is perhaps negative.

It's not necessarily a weakness. It could be a statement of perception.

Only if we acknowledge our perceptions (and the thoughts, feelings and behaviours which accompany them) may we process them.

It's up to you how you deal wth people making fun of your spelling mistakes.

It's got nothing to do with the people who are critical because you can't control them, only yourself.

RE: Validity of Freewill

Freewill is not the same as opportunity as we know from a lack of equal opportunities.

We still have an element of freewill with respect to how we manage a lack of opportunity, for example we can die with dignity, or go kicking and screaming.

RE: Well Done England For Treating Covid-19 As a "Flu"!

The actions have been slightly different in Wales than England, but neither country has been calling Covid 'flu, nor acting as if it is.

Given how many people have been ill and died in the UK, not to mention all the other health and economic ramifications of how it's been handled, I don't see why any country would want to follow our steps, other than to avoid our mistakes.

Furthermore, whilst there are commonly 'flu-like symptoms, it's surely clear by now that Covid is so much more than that? Saying it's 'flu is like saying you heard a note, therefore the tune it came from doesn't exist.

RE: Sydney Powell files a response to Dominion lawsuit - and it is a good defense.

I don't quite get comparing Sidney Powell's protections as equal to that of journalists owing to the fact that she's not a journalist.

Her perceived authority and credibility as a lawyer will have placed her in a more powerful position to influence.

Also, saying that only an unreasonable person would believe her allegations, but stating she believes them herself is an admission that she acted unreasonably. Isn't that what the lawsuit is about?

It doesn't appear to meet the narrow critera for insanity, nor do the circumstances. It just says her actions were unjustified.

If her actions cannot be justified and can be shown to have caused harm, then isn't she liable for that harm?

RE: Hate Mongering

Hate is an angry emotion.

Anger is a natural part of grief; grief is a natural part of loss, whatever that loss is.

When so many peple do not have the skills, resources, nor opportunities to lead a fulfilling, happy life, loss, grief, anger and hate are inevitable.

Politicians play on dissatisfaction, rather than take radical action to alleviate it. It's too powerful a force to waste.

RE: I've Not Seen Merc Here Lately - (aka "A Prior Chatting Blog")

I dunno about Mic, but I've been waiting for you to come back, Merc. laugh

RE: Planning a vacation...

My dad's been through peritoneal dialysis, haemodialysis and a cadaver transplant; my mum has 20% kidney function.

On this side of the pond people who are vulnerable due to underlying health issues are still shielding.

They get groceries delivered and neighbours help out with milk, or newspapers day to day.

Visiting is not an option.

RE: Your way up

If someone criticises you for not being assertive, surely the reply is, "No, I am assertive." giggle

RE: Planning a vacation...

You don't have covid restrictions? shock

RE: Ship Date...

Historically, the High Street and the department store evolved through promoting the 'shopping experience' specifically to women.

It catered to the Victorian idea of recreation where women could browse, purchase, take refreshments, see and be seen.

In the UK there is a culture of shopping at weekends and on holidays, whereas on the mainland continent leisure time focuses on other activities. On Bank Holidays in the UK, leisure centres and sports facilities tend to close and not many people go out into the countryside.

Either the High Street will return in some form, or we Brits will learn to embrace alternative experiences beyond consumerism.

Personally, I cannot abide by shopping and would rather spend my leisure time hill walking. Having said that, I can't imagine trying to purchase some products like fabrics, threads and other tailoring notions without seeing the items in daylight.

Maybe life will shift, rather than irrecovably change beyond recognition.

RE: On a waiting list - 964 people in front of me!

That works out as having housed 10 people per month.

At that rate you'll be on the list for 8 years before you're at the front of the queue.

It'll cost you $300 over that time period, so no huge financial expenditure, but maybe hangfire with collecting the kitchen equipment.

RE: On a waiting list - 964 people in front of me!

What number were you when you joined the waiting list in September?

RE: The Teachers pet

How old are you?

RE: Cost of electivity you pay.

I recently went on one of those compare sites.

My cheapest option at the moment is entirely wind farmed power.

I should think so, too.

I can see 37 windmills on the mountain opposite my flat and there are so many wind farms around here I've been known to lose my bearings when out on the mountains.

They should be colour coded so I can navigate my way home. giggle

In built up areas, single windmills are often painted like daffodils. I like the idea of a different flower bed on each mountain.

RE: "Instant Karma gonna get ya..."

It's about 'them and us'.

'We' demonise 'them' and 'they' demonise 'us'.

I assume we can bypass the infantile "They started it!", although I realise that's a big assumption in this community.

Somebody has to act with a bit of gumption and accept that there aren't really any sides here, just ridiculous behaviour and needless tragedy.

RE: ACV Vinegar

PS. Thanks for the recipe. banana

RE: ACV Vinegar

Fresh turmeric works best in cold drinks.

I bought a handful and popped it in the freezer. It grates (shreds?) very easily from frozen, as does ginger.

If making batches, perhaps steeping the brew with a cinnamon stick and a slice of fresh turmeric may work. dunno

RE: ACV Vinegar

Have you got a recipe for that drink of yours, Fay?

The original and your own modifications would be interesting.

RE: "Instant Karma gonna get ya..."

By not being able to see the tragedy on every level, it strikes me those who find this humorous are also misguided extremists.

RE: More Gorilla Glue... you betcha!

We're not foreign.

Neither are we alien.

I recommend people start getting over themselves with this ownership and not belonging malarkey.

RE: The Wind From The East.

Oh good, that means I'm rather witchy. giggle

RE: What would you say if your daughter said "This is my fiancee"?

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

RE: The Wind From The East.

Aah, Steppenwolf.

“There are always a few such people who demand the utmost of life and yet cannot come to terms with its stupidity and crudeness.” ~ Hermann Hesse, Steppenwolf

RE: The Wind From The East.

I'm a little confused by 'Sephenwolf' and 'The Clok who runs out of sand'.

RE: The Wind From The East.

RE: OmGaan Met Diversiteit

Oh, that's alright then.

He'll convert to Christianity and become a proper person. hmmm

RE: Restarting my cooking adventure!

@Phil...

A cupful...? shock

I see your objection. laugh

@Red...

What gluten free pasta do you use? I like brown rice pasta, but I've been finding it dfficult and costly to get hold of during the pandemic. I find corn pasta cooks unevenly and lentil pasta to strongly flavoured to go with anything much.

RE: Restarting my cooking adventure!

A tiny drop of oil can stop the pasta sticking together and can stop a starchy foam building up on top of the boiling water.
