RE: The Scar

PS. Thankyou, Mirror, for the video about mica.

I don't use the kind of products which contain mica, but I will pass on the informatin to my daughter. She's very careful about being an ethical consumer, but I'm not sure if she's aware of the lack of traceability of natural mica.

RE: The Scar

I imagine it's a more complex psychological issue than the mere principal of deceit.

The scar must have some meaning to the families for it to be considered deceitful to withhold the information. It's likely to be the interpretation of the scar that is an issue, whether it is considered unattractive, a health issue, or a deeper fault in some other way.

I have a number of scars on my inner forearms which are work related; somebody observing them might interpret them as self-harming scars and formulate a view of me as a 'faulty' person as a result.

I have a caesarian scar, so in my younger days I might have been viewed as 'faulty' on the child bearing front.

If I had scars from being attacked, I might be viewed as being guilty of somethng and deserving of the attack.

If men have battle scars we often view them as a badge of honour, but in a gender biased society warrior women may be considered a liability.

Without knowing the details of the scar, or the underlying interpretation of the alleged deceit, it's impossible to know why a scar might impact upon a relationship in this way.

RE: The most insane traffic in the world

The aspect of culture I was referring to is 'the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society.'

The cultural difference between UK traffic and that of Hanoi in the video appears to be written rules versus unwritten rules. We may perceive the video as indicative of insanity (extreme foolishness, or irrationality) from the perspective of a culture which has written traffic rules, but there are clear behavioural patterns suggesting rationality.

From observation of the video alone we cannot establish which culture (written rules versus unwritten rules) has more fatalities, or injuries, or why. We cannot establish what we can learn from each other's culture and whether any ideas, customs, or social behaviours can be transposed effectively to reduce road deaths and injuries in either area.

All we can say from the video is that there is a cultural difference between Hanoi and UK traffic behaviour.

Bentlee's statement about Bipolar Disorder is not a cultural difference because his idea of bipolar is clearly inaccurate. Why would it be beneficial to have a traffic director who over time experiences periods of both depression and mania?

Although we have a growing culture of inaccurately using psychiatric terminology in every day speech which is a part of Bentlee's culture and not mine, I can say it's not merely a cultural difference because of his inaccurate portrayal of the disorder and the potential negative impact of that.

Asumming the first comment was directed at myself, then perhaps this one was too.

I need some context here about who, how, why and wtf? laugh

I don't know who you are referring to with respect to people causing great harm, nor who you think I have been cruel to who never hurt anybody. confused

RE: The truth about what happened. It was NOT a "tour group".

Trump knows way better, that goes without saying...?

Now that's a very interesting statement. laugh

I'd be very wary about making those claims about someone who demonstrates persnality disorder traits.

What Trump knows may be synonymous with what Trump believes and how Trump comes to believe probably doesn't operate in the same way as it does with you and I.

RE: The truth about what happened. It was NOT a "tour group".

PS. I'm not saying I think imprisonment is functional, nor that US sentencing is reasonable.

If I had I my way, the insurrectionists would be doing community service, maybe one stint with people much worse off than them and one stint with people much better off than them, like being the Trump family's cleaner. grin

RE: The truth about what happened. It was NOT a "tour group".

How big is a tour group normally?

RE: Greed

You're mistaking correlation and cause.

Religion becomes a part of war because it's used as a means of justification, or self-righteousness: our god, being the only real god is on our side because we're the only ones who got the god thing right. Religion correlates with war in this way

The underlying causes of war are greed, power, or in very rare cases, self-/other-defense.

As for the redistribution of wealth, that only works if finances are used to enable people to thrive in their own right, so again it's a muddling of cause and correlation. For greater equality we don't need to redistribute financial wealth, but power and opportunity resources.

RE: The most insane traffic in the world

No, you made fun of an illness. You promoted an inaccurate idea of the illness and you associated it with insanity.

Sorry Bentlee, but you're just not funny.

RE: The most insane traffic in the world

That was a misuse of the word 'bipolar' and given the thread title is associating the illness with negative perceptions.

It was a discriminatory remark to make and is unacceptable.

RE: | BREAKING - One Hour Ago | CDC: "If You're Vaxed - Lose The Mask!"

There is an interesting social psychology to that.

RE: Ghosting...

'Mass ghosting'. I like that. laugh

I feel so much better about letting peple down, now. laugh

RE: "RAMBLIN MAN"..("RAMBLE ON")..(220).

Okay, sorry. My misunderstanding.

RE: "RAMBLIN MAN"..("RAMBLE ON")..(220).

Have a look at your contract, or lease and see if you can get some free housng advice.

It might be satisfying to present him with receipts for materials and the remainder of your rent next time you're due to pay. If you can legally charge him for your labour, all the better,

On the other hand, he might be reliant on the rent to feed his kids given the pandemic, in which case, how important is a fence? Is it likely to hurt someone should it fall down?

RE: Is this right?

That would depend on why one person wouldn't want the other to go out with their friends and what retribution is threatened.

Ultimatums are generally unhealthy, but I would have different feelings about a threat to leave if someone was going out with their friends to commit an armed robbery and a threat to take the children away if someone was meeting their friends for tea and scones.

Your question is too generic to express more than that.

RE: The New Bug,

I've given away the answer too soon?

Are you referring to the meaning of the word, or dunkng people in ketchup? laugh

RE: The New Bug,

It's the defense being used in the case of one of the January 6th rioters.

It's one of diminished responsibilty where the defendent, having become unemployed due to the pandemic watched excessive amounts of Fox News which influenced his thoughts and behaviour.

His defense is that he believed the propaganda and false narratives promoted by Fox News and Trump himself, so his nefarious behaviour (including ignoring the pleas for assistance from the police officer who had head injuries and died of a heart attack on the day) was not really his fault.

There is both an element of veracity in the defense and a diversion from personal responsibility.

It requires a carefully balanced outcome for justice to be achieved. The consequences of this case as it has been posed, will likely have ramifications.

RE: The New Bug,

Is there a sort of a cleaning for it...? giggle

RE: Its up and running

On the contrary.

My first lesson in feminism came from him.

RE: Its up and running

Well, hopefully when the penny finally drops that Trump has no intention of ever sharing his spotlight, the platform, and the man, will lose their charms as well.

RE: Its up and running

Your naïvety of the nature of the man is almost charming, here.

RE: Its up and running

With freedom of speech comes responsiblity.

To say Trump used his freedom of speech irresponsibly doesn't really acknowledge that on a neurolgic level, he's likely not capable of responsible behaviour.

I fear neither of us will live long enough for the extent of his dangerousness to be exposed. Likewise, the shame of supporting him.

RE: Its up and running

Let's hope that the platforms Trump is suspended from not only make it permanent, but they block his communications from being re-posted on their sites.

Without being able to interact, most Trump supporters will likely get bored of just reading/watching. Trump relies on causing an adrenal response to garner attention and support.

RE: New place, new people, new beginnings

Congratulations on your new home and lifestyle. yay

RE: INDIA TODAY

Which is no use if the leader deosn't enable that brain power, or even disables it.

Now where have I seen that before...?

RE: INDIA TODAY

A strain that causes more severe symptoms is less successful because people are more likely to die than they are to spread it. If it kills the host without spreading to another, that variant will die out quickly.

The successful variants are the ones which spread easily, but kill a lower percentage of its hosts.

The thing is, a variant that kills 90% of 10 people infected kills 9 people; a variant which spreads easily enough to infect 1,000 people, but only kills 2% leaves 20 dead.

The variants with higher transmissibility also cause more chaos with respect to healthcare and the economy. More people will die through a lack of resources, like food and medical care.

Higher transmissabilty and lower lethality is more alarming that lower transmissibility and higher lethality. It just seems less alarming because we think we will have a better chance of surviving the disease itself on an individual basis, without considering the wider implications.

For a densely populated country with a lot of poverty, a highly transmissable with lower lethality variant is an absolute disaster.

RE: INDIA TODAY

A lot of people living in poverty are dependent upon day to day employent to survive.

Unless a country has a welfare system, it can't realistically lock down a large proportion of its population.

RE: INDIA TODAY

"A country that is mired in poverty, but also has a space programme..."

I think perhaps most countries have dubious financial and ethical priorities.

RE: Statistically speaking...

Remind me - what century are we in? laugh

Derek Chauvin...

Maybe that's because education and legislation takes time and immature approaches don't work.

That's not an argument for more immature approaches.

Derek Chauvin...

I dare say he'll have to be kept in solitary confinement for that 10 years, Luke.

That's still quite a sentence and a ruined life to boot.
