RE: Animal Dreams

I've always wondered what my pets dream about. Most of my dogs used to run in their sleep.

My mother had a terrier who often snarled in his dreams... probably fighting with other dogs!

The social media 'threat'

We have a sister-company with a Facebook page and lots of positive reviews.
There is one seriously bad review (at the top) from someone who mentions people he contacted in the company (sales & customer service) with negative comments. One important detail: The names he mentions in the review are NOT PEOPLE WHO ARE WORKING FOR, OR HAVE WORKED FOR THE COMPANY. Obviously it's mistaken identity.
The manager replied saying the complainer has the wrong company and those people don't work for him, but there is always a shadow of doubt, especially with such a negative review.

Quick research:
TENCEL® is a brand, the trademark is owned by Lenzing Fibers location Austria.

Eucalyptus used in Tencel fabric productionThe fibre used for the TENCEL® fabric is called Lyocell.

Lyocell is obtained from traceable and sustainable wood pulp (Eucalyptus trees are grown on farms certified by the Forest Stewardship Council – FSC) being dissolved in a non toxic organic recovered and reused solvent, thus using an extrusion method through tiny holes comes Lyocell fibres.

"Lyocell is made from the cellulose obtained from wood pulp (Cellulose is a natural polymer found in all vegetative living cells, apparently, trees are 50% cellulose and cotton around 90% cellulose) and the process of Lyocell production starts by treating wood chips in such a way that they form into a substance resembling thick paper.

This paper like material is then cut up and broken down into small pieces and then chemically dissolved, forming a cellulose slurry. This is then extruded through a device with many tiny holes in it..."

Performing a TLS Handshake...

The story hasn't ended.

I completely uninstalled the firewall.
(or so I thought)

The updated version anti-virus was installed and did some more updates.

Everything was working well and I did a few maintenance items that included deleting some free software I hadn't used in years and moved some of my photos to an external drive so I had more storage.

The computer is an HP with a Pentium i3 processor... old technology, but it's working fine for what I have it setup to do.

A few months ago I purchased a refurbished HP computer with a Pentium i5 processor. Also old technology, but a little faster than my main machine. So, I migrated over some bookmarks and installed all my usual software. The change was somewhat seamless.
My wife got the i3 that replaced a Dell much older that all of these computers.

I walked by her computer today and I see the virus program did it's normal file scan and I also see the firewall (Zone Alarm) asking permission to unblock the anti-virus from reporting back nothing found.

WHAT??? I completely deleted Zone Alarm. Now it's back!

I was unable to install the updated anti-virus suite until Zone Alarm was gone.
That involved windows uninstall and a cleaner program from the firewall manufacturer and now it has returned. Although it's worked well for me in the past, the only reason to delete it was the issue with the virus software. Now the two appear to be working like they did a few weeks ago. My wife was surfing her usual Chinese sites. If there was a problem I'm sure she would have said something.

I'll have to get to that later tonight to see...

RE: The Space Shuttle Challenger.....

Hans, here's the short story:

The original design had one-piece rocket engines that could have been brought in by barge if the manufacturer was near a port. The low bidder awarded the contract wasn't close to a seaport so the engines were redesigned as smaller interlocking components, brought in by rail cars, hence the need for O-rings where the parts joined.

For safety, there were 2 rows of O-rings.

The O-rings weren't designed for or fully tested in freezing temperatures (which makes no sense to me) and the engineer in charge made it clear to management that previous tests showed the first row O-ring had failed. His concern was brought up several times.

The mission had been postponed several times and and the decision was swayed to allow it to proceed.

RE: The Space Shuttle Challenger.....

Hans, thanks for posting this blog... I'm curious about what happened.
Certainly I remember getting a phone call at work telling me about the tragedy and to turn on the radio. We didn't have a TV in the office and it was before streaming video via internet.

I see there are several YouTube videos on the subject.

I'm linking one here that could be of interest. Watching it now...

and the answers is (drum roll) FIREWALL !!

My virus protection attempted to do another update and gave an error message regarding the firewall incompatibility.
It took a few attempts including a cleaner from the manufacturers website but I was able to uninstall the firewall and fully install my antivirus that has it's own firewall.

molly, the point is management is understaffed so they created a system where the members can report photos that are in violation of their rules.

RE: Cutting Back

Me thinks you retired too early.

2 friends I've known since high-school married and had two kids who are now adults. Through all their real estate investments (good and bad) they both retired last year and announced how nice it was... I asked what they do with all that free time.
What free time? was the reply. They both have part-time jobs to pay their bills!!

Go to Whole Foods Market & buy a roasted organic chicken for $10. That's enough for 4 meals. Canned corn & carrots with rice (real rice that you cook) gets a meal for around $4. It's food and not ingredients made in a laboratory and labeled frozen pizza.

The important thing about a window in a bathroom is fresh air!

Fay, I'm unsure about selling the property I currently own. It could be more important to keep. That's a question for my accountant.

No one has been able to tell me if a condo where the association restricts renting has more resale value. While it's better for the neighbors to know every one there is claiming homestead exemptions as primary residence (or forfeiting it as a vacation home) there is less option for the future... the example would be to buy something now for retirement in 5 to 10 years from now and not be able to rent it during those years.

RE: When will Brits learn to speak English?

niche - it's pronounced neesh - NOT nitch! If you're going to use the words, learn how to pronounce them for heaven's sake!

imp, I checked this with a few online dictionaries and both pronunciations are acceptable.
For me, in terms of design or architecture, I'll say niche. If I'm referencing something a person does well, I'll say they found their nitch in life.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it...

ysabeljhen, a coworker told me how great his cardiologist was. So I tried him. With total cholesterol level of 180 before going I think I got down to 165 along with nausea, muscle cramps, headaches. He change the prescription a few times and the only thing that made me feel better was not seeing him again.

RE: I'll Miss Sears

Biff, yes... Sears, Roebuck and Company founded in 1892 as a mail order company and started opening retail outlets in 1925. At one time, they were the largest retailer in the US only to be surpassed by Walmart in 1989.
(source: Wikipedia)

If I recall, they had different catalogs. The city version with fashionable clothing and the rural version with farm equipment.
