Animal Dreams

I've always wondered what my pets dream about. Most of my dogs used to run in their sleep. You could tell because as they lay on their side sound asleep, their paws would be running. Sometimes they would make a little noise in their throat.

The tiny dog I have now does something real cute in her sleep. I can be sitting on the couch (her always by my side) and I will hear a tiny thunk thunk thunk, a small slapping sound hitting the leather. It is her tiny tail waggy like crazy while she is sound asleep. This always brings a smile to my face, warms the heart to know she is having such a happy dream.

Last night I had an intense dream. I've tried to Lucid dream on and off for years, never quite accomplished it. However last night it was lucid, I had control in my dream, not to wake up mind you but to make consiouse decisions in the dream story. Holy smokes batman was I proud of myself when I finally woke up. Actually I remember being proud in my dream also. This probably doesn't make sense to anyone so to make a long story short, I was able to fight my demons SUCCESSFULLY. I'll take it, dream or not.

I've always wondered what my pets dream about. Most of my dogs used to run in their sleep.

My mother had a terrier who often snarled in his dreams... probably fighting with other dogs!
I've never noticed my dog is dreaming. But he is never quiet when sleeping, snores and snores constantly. laugh (a pug)
I've had flat nosed dogs before and they make funny snores when they sleep. Even this three pound Chi snores in her sleep, again it always makes me grin.
Mine do a lot of kicking whilst dreaming. One can get quite vocal too laugh

They seem to have more exciting dreams than me anyway blues
Molly, they may say the same of you?

Fay, I never had a dog that wagged its tail constantly in its sleep, that's one happy dog you have there laugh

Yes quite often I hear the thud of the tail while she is dreaming and, sometimes I think she is chasing next door cats as she is making a sort of barking noise and twitching legs in her dream.

But what do pups dream of as when we saw our last dog when he was about 6 weeks old one of his brothers/sisters had gone to sleep and was dreaming and s/he had never been out of the room where s/he was born in to see cats etc to chase.
In humans, most dream time is supposedly during partial muscle paralysis. All my dogs have had the whining, running on their sides, growling, etc. act going during parts of sleep. So they may dream, but differently from us. Freud considered dreams the royal road to the unconscious, at least in adults. In young kids, it's also play. I tried repeatedly to do hypnotic regression on my bow wows,---with only mixed success. Bravo, you are getting sleeeeepier, and sleeeepier. Now you are in that favorite place of yours, and it has an elevator. You are taking it down to lower floors---deeeeeeper, and deeeeeper. Woof.
Nam, I too have had to wake some dogs when I thought they were having a bad dream.

Bif , Bella is the first dog I've had that thunks her tail when sleeping but even then it is not all that often.

Countryside I think you are the only other person I've met so far whose had a tail thinking dog too.

Viek - I bet you put your dogs to sleep, I like the elevator theme going lower, it almost worked on me.
The dog that I share ownership with was making some sounds in his sleep which resembled whining noises and thrashing around and I've had to wake him up.When he was a small puppy he would do something similar.Poor little guy.
